While stress is pervasive in the world today, and particularly in the dental office, coping strategies can counteract it. This paper discusses the personality features of the hardy dentist; the fact that stress and its effects depend largely on individual perception of stressors; and five habits to develop for stress reduction: seeking information, taking direct action, inhibiting action, engaging intrapsychic efforts and calling on others.
