RESUMO

Background & objectives: Vector-borne diseases are a significant issue for public health worldwide, especially in India. In recent years, high number of dengue and chikungunya cases have been reported from Rajasthan state of India, those are principally transmitted by Aedes aegypti. These vectors are extremely intrusive and can thrive in practically any climate. However, vector mosquitos' prevalence in Jaipur district is not properly documented. Therefore, current research was carried out to ascertain the seasonal fluctuations of Aedes aegypti in Jaipur city, Rajasthan, India. Methods: In order to ascertain the seasonal variation, monitoring of Aedes mosquitoes was conducted from August 2021 to July 2022 at nine selected regions in the Jaipur city. The breeding capacity of vectors was evaluated using three vector indices: the House Index, Breteau Index, and Container Index. Results: A total of 2172 out of 6336 breeding sites and 3735 out of 7477 containers were found positive for Aedes species. Three important species of Aedes vectors were collected in which Aedes aegypti was reported as the most prevalent. The highest values for House Index (57.60%) and Container Index (54.95%) were observed in October and the least rate was observed in March. Interpretation & conclusion: This survey was carried out to investigate the seasonal prevalence of dengue vectors and the findings revealed seasonal fluctuations in the indices of Aedes reproducing potential. This calls for precautionary actions to avoid infection rates and epidemic emergence. Therefore, to stop epidemics and eradicate vector-borne infections, the current study recommends close monitoring and further vector management efforts.

RESUMO

A key step in the prevention of neurodegenerative disorders is to inhibit protein aggregation or fibrillation process. Functionality recognition is an essential strategy in developing effective therapeutics in addressing the treatment of amyloidosis. Here, we have focused on an approach based on structure-property energetics correlation associated with tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide (TTAB), a cationic surfactant that acts as an inhibitor targeting different stages of hen egg-white lysozyme fibrillation. Characterization of amyloid fibrils and the inhibitory capability of 16 mM TTAB surfactant on fibrillation were investigated with the calorimetric, spectroscopic and microscopic techniques. ThT binding fluorescence studies inferred that micellar TTAB exerts its maximum inhibitory effect against amyloid fibrillation than monomer TTAB. The TEM measurements also confirmed complete absence of amyloid fibrils at micellar TTAB. At the same time, the transformation of ß-sheet to α-helix under the action of TTAB was confirmed by the Far-UV CD spectroscopy. Although there have been some reports suggesting that cationic surfactants can induce aggregation in proteins, this work suggests that polar interactions between head groups of TTAB and amyloid fibrils are the predominant factors that cause retardation in fibrillation by interrupting/disturbing the intermolecular hydrogen bond of ß-sheets. The present finding has explored the knowledge-based details in developing efficient potent inhibitors and provides a platform to treat diseases associated with protein misfolding.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. RESUMO

Janani-Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) and Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) were launched with the objective of increasing institutional deliveries. But, its knowledge among the post-natal mothers is not known. This research evaluated the knowledge of two national health programs among post-natal mothers and found out the predictors of good knowledge about the entitlements of these programs. A cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of consecutively recruited 339 post-natal mothers who had delivered in a tertiary care hospital of western India. Data were collected from November 2016 to February 2017 by interview method using a questionnaire with questions about knowledge regarding the entitlements of JSSK and JSY. Multivariable analysis was carried out for predictors of good knowledge. Among the 339 post-natal mothers, 30% had a good knowledge regarding JSSK. Only 24% had heard about JSSK; 54% knew regarding free transport to the place of delivery; only 22% and 13%, respectively knew about free inter-facility transport in case of complications for pregnant women and sick infants, while 96% knew regarding free drop-back facility. Only one-fourth of the mothers knew regarding monetary benefit under JSY, while 28% of them had actually received the benefit. The number of antenatal care visits, having an occupation and belonging to Hindu religion significantly predicts good knowledge among postnatal mothers regarding JSSK. Knowledge among the post-natal mothers regarding the entitlements of JSSK and JSY is less while comparing with published literature and needs improvement. Regular ante-natal care (ANC) visits might improve their knowledge of these programs. There is a need to create awareness among hospital staff for the provision of reimbursement of costs incurred by post-natal mothers. There is also a need to carry out demand generation activities among mothers regarding the entitlements of JSSK and JSY.
