RESUMO

The authors report 3 cases of epidermoid cyst of the testis. Clinical, laboratory and ultrasound data were relatively nonspecific. Precise histological criteria were defined by PRICE in 1969. The diagnosis is based on frozen section examination after transnnguinal testicular exploration. The authors describe the most conservative therapeutic approach for a constantly benign testicular tumour.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Vascular metastatic tumors of the mandible are unusual and management of bleeding may be difficult. CASE REPORT: An 83-year-old woman with a mandibular metastasis from a renal-cell carcinoma developed oral pain and episodes of bleeding of 2-weeks duration. Embolization was successful in stopping blood loss which occurred during surgical biopsy. Eight months after embolization, the patient is pain free and no bleeding has recurred. DISCUSSION: Embolization during arteriography procedures for tumor exploration can be useful in acute situations to improve survival and patient comfort. The aim may be palliative care or preparation for curative excision.

RESUMO

Uretero-arterial fistulas are rare. The authors report two new cases complicating iliac vascular surgery. These fistulas occurred in a particular context: aorto-iliac disease, neoplasm and pelvic radiotherapy. Prolonged ureteric catheterisation is a risk factor found in 65% of cases. The clinical diagnosis is difficult and must be suggested in the presence of episodes of haematuria, sometimes minimal and intermittent, but often cataclysmic. The clinical context is highly suggestive of the diagnosis. The most useful complementary investigations are arteriography and retrograde ureteropyelography. Surgical treatment is complex, as it is performed in an emergency context in patients with a poor general state and it must treat both the vascular and the urological problem. Embolization can be proposed in some cases. The prognosis remains serious due to the frequency and severity of postoperative complications, which is why this disease must be investigated in all patients at risk.
