[Meibomian adenocarcinoma of the free palpebral edge. Report of a case]. / Adénocarcinome meibomien du bord libre palpébral. A propos d'une observation.

A case of meibomian carcinoma of the left eyelid is reported in a 72-year-old female patient. The tumor had been present on the left eyelid for months. Clinically, the tumor appeared as a reddish mass implanted on the external part of the free margin of the left superior eyelid. An excisional biopsy disclosed meibomian carcinoma. A total resection of the left superior eyelid was followed by plastic surgery. Results after a one-month follow-up were very satisfactory. This case is emphasizes the importance of an early diagnosis which enabled us to perform a rather conservative treatment limited to the removal of the affected eyelid. The diagnosis of meibomian carcinoma is infrequent but it must be kept in mind in cases of tumor without the typical clinical characteristics of a basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma. Complete removal surgery may bring a curative effect and histopathology has a key role in the diagnosis of meibomian carcinoma.

[Evaluation of serum immunoglobulins E in onchocercosis in the People's Republic of the Congo]. / Evaluation des immunoglobulines E sériques dans l'onchocercose en République Populaire du Congo.

Evaluation of IgE levels, determined by micro ELISA method, was carried out on 90 Congolese people: 42 patients suffering from onchocerciasis and 48 control subjects. The mean levels were respectively: 9,673 and 780 UI/ml. No significant differences were observed with sexes. Therefore in onchocerciasis there is a tendency to increase with age.

[Account of a macular hemorrhage in a 25-year-old Congolese man with homozygous sickle cell anemia]. / Histoire d'une hémorragie maculaire chez un drépanocytaire homozygote Congolais de 25 ans.

The author reports a case of right macula hemorrhage that has brought a sudden impairment of the vision in a 25 years old African. Homozygous sickle-cell anemia has been diagnosed thanks to etiological investigations with a special mention of hemoglobinophoresis . Generally, the sickle lesions in the eye are delimited all around the retina. Macula localisation, like the case reported by the author, has rarely ever been described.

Report from 18 months of practice in the "Hôpital Général" of Brazzaville. Three groups must be considered: -- Newborns: -- the purulent gonococcal ophtalmia has a bad prognosis and though rather rare, must not be neglected. -- Infants: -- measles, which have in Congo a very high prevalence, induce very frequently corneal ulcers with a great risk of rapide evolution towards hypopyon or panophtalmia; -- congenital cataracts probably related to rubella or toxoplasmosis. -- Children: -- congenital glaucoma; -- retina, with, in first rank, the retinoblastoma which seems particularly frequent in People Republic of Congo; -- traumatisms of various kinds.

[A case of Marfan's syndrome in a black African (author's transl)]. / A propos d'un cas de syndrome de Marfan chez un sujet de race noire.

Marfan's syndrome seems not frequent in black population. A case observed in a 16 years african girl is reported. The morphologic ocular criteria were present: divergent strabismus, microphakia and luxation of the crystalline lens. In the absence of cardiac malformations, surgical treatment was underwent and brought the acuteness of vision from 1/10 to 5/10.
