RESUMO

Hyalinizing trabecular adenoma (HTA) is a rare but distinct type of thyroid neoplasm. Its typical morphological features are trabecular arrangement of tumour cells and the prominent hyaline appearance. Although cases of HTA with vascular and/or capsular invasion have been described, the vast majority of tumours are benign. This article deals with the histological, cytological, immunohistochemical, and ultrastructural features of HTA. The pitfalls of fine-needle aspiration biopsy and intra-operative frozen section examination are described. Finally the differential diagnostic aspects of HTA are discussed.

RESUMO

The incidence of capillary sclerosis in the mucosa of the upper urinary tract was beyond expectation, according to a multicenter study conducted at 11 pathological institutes in all regions of the former GDR from which the following more specific findings were obtained: Capillary sclerosis was recorded primarily from women (1.4:1) in 3.6% of 3,929 autopsy cases (minimum age being 40 years). This result has close to the outcome of a study conducted in Basle, Switzerland, though highest severity (0.33%) and the complete morphological picture of analgesic nephropathy (0.54%) were clearly less frequent, as compared to the above Swiss findings. No reliable conclusion can as yet be drawn regarding the infrequent case of renal pelvis carcinoma. Epidemiological and clinical studies are likely to suggest that an increase in findings might be expected in this part of Germany and might be aetiologically attributable to abuse of analgesics.

RESUMO

Symptoms, tumour morphology, therapy and clinical course were reviewed in three women at the age of 22 to 38 years treated at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the District Hospital of Neubrandenburg between February and June 1989 for granulosa cell tumour of the ovary. The nature of granulosa cell tumours cannot be predicted by clinical or morphological criteria. Therefore it is suggested to consider all granulosa cell tumours as malignant.

RESUMO

Typical alcoholic liver damage was found in 204 cases among 1,000 consecutive liver biopsies. Using the classification of Roschlau, 43.6% of the livers were stage II. Most alcoholic liver disease occurred in men and women in the fifth decade of life. The frequency of alcoholic hepatitis appeared to be greater in the higher stages. To determine the diagnostic value of different histologic changes, the frequency of several alterations was registered.
