According to clinical characteristics and serum levels of alpha 1-proteinase inhibitor in the acute period (1-3 days), four groups of patients with myocardial infarction were identified. The most severe myocardial infarction was observed in patients from Groups 1 and 4. It was found that the serum alpha 1-proteinase inhibitor ratios in acute myocardial infarction were closely related to its clinical course. In the authors' opinion, determination of alpha 1-proteinase inhibitor titers by the rapid method will allow the goal-oriented therapeutical measures, including inhibitor therapy to be used.

An experimental model of nephrotoxic glomerulonephritis was used to study the functional state of the hemostasis and fibrinolysis systems during the course of the disease in 59 rabbits. The hemocoagulation processes occurred in phases in different periods of nephrotoxic nephritis. The authors attempted to link up these changes with the immune shifts occurring in the animal's organism after administration of nephrotoxic serum.

In 161 patients with acute myocardial infarction, the kallikrein-kinin system was found to be activated. In addition, there were alterations in indices of the coagulative system, which were suggestive of hypercoagulation. The unidirectional changes in the indices of the systems in question during therapy in the periods of rehabilitation are attributable to the common character of trigger mechanisms responsible for their activation and to the involvement of the kinin system in the regulation of hemostatic potential.

Function of hemostasis and fibrinolysis was investigated in 152 patients with chronic glomerulonephritis (CGN). Of these, 63 patients presented with an isolated urinary, 49 with hypertensive and 39 with nephrotic syndromes. The patients' groups showed differences in the intensity of the derangement of hemocoagulation and fibrinolysis. The patients with hypertensive CGN manifested different types of responses on the part of thrombin and plasmin, depending on the initial magnitudes of arterial pressure.

The authors analyze data of determination of alpha 1 proteinase inhibitor in patients with myocardial infarction depending on the severity of the disease. It is suggested that the quantitative values of alpha 1 proteinase inhibitors of the blood plasma may be used in the diagnosis and prognosis of the disease in the sense of correction inhibitor therapy and individual management.

The kinin and coagulation functions were examined in 78 myocardial infarction patients in relation to the presence of essential hypertension. The kallikrein-kinin activation and blood hypercoagulation were shown to be more pronounced in cases of associated essential hypertension.
