RESUMO

A software package for the calibration and processing of powder X-ray diffraction and small-angle X-ray scattering data is presented. It provides a multitude of data processing and visualization tools as well as a command-line scripting interface for on-the-fly processing and the incorporation of complex data treatment tasks. Customizable processing chains permit the execution of many data processing steps to convert a single image or a batch of raw two-dimensional data into meaningful data and one-dimensional diffractograms. The processed data files contain the full data provenance of each process applied to the data. The calibration routines can run automatically even for high energies and also for large detector tilt angles. Some of the functionalities are highlighted by specific use cases.

RESUMO

Controlled protein degradation is an important cellular reaction for the fast and efficient adaptation of bacteria to ever-changing environmental conditions. In the low-GC, Gram-positive model organism Bacillus subtilis, the AAA+ protein ClpC requires specific adaptor proteins not only for substrate recognition but also for chaperone activity. The McsB adaptor is activated particularly during heat stress, allowing the controlled degradation of the CtsR repressor by the ClpCP protease. Here we report how the McsB adaptor becomes activated by autophosphorylation on specific arginine residues during heat stress. In nonstressed cells McsB activity is inhibited by ClpC as well as YwlE.

RESUMO

The local atomic structure of the glassy Al(92)U(8) alloy was modelled by the reverse Monte Carlo (RMC) method, fitting x-ray diffraction (XRD) and extended x-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) signals. The final structural model was analysed by means of partial pair correlation functions, coordination number distributions and Voronoi tessellation. In our study we found that the most probable atomic separations between Al-Al and U-Al pairs in the glassy Al(92)U(8) alloy are 2.7 Å and 3.1 Å with coordination numbers 11.7 and 17.1, respectively. The Voronoi analysis did not support evidence of the existence of well-defined building blocks directly embedded in the amorphous matrix. The dense-random-packing model seems to be adequate for describing the connection between solvent and solute atoms.

RESUMO

Besides clinical and anamnestic data, image information from CT-image data in the tumour border was used for classification of brain tumours. If the image regions are properly selected a classification rate of 85% is obtained with a hierarchic classifier, although our study is based on only 139 patients.

RESUMO

For the classification of various brain tumours data from 139 patients with histologically proven diagnosis were used. With linear discriminant analysis and hierarchic classification of clinical and anamnestic data and features obtained by Walsh-transformation of image data presently 7 classes of tumours are differentiated with an estimated classification rate of 85% and reclassification rate of 92%.

RESUMO

We studied 42 patients with urinary incontinence who demonstrated uninhibited detrusor contractions during cystometry. Each patient underwent urodynamic evaluation before and after the parenteral administration of propantheline bromide. Of these 42 patients 33 (79 per cent) had a positive response to propantheline: total abolition of uninhibited bladder contractions or 200 per cent increase in bladder capacity. Of these 33 patients 26 were treated with the oral drug and all but 1 had complete clinical response. Urinary retention occurred in half of the patients. These patients were managed with intermittent self-catheterization in addition to oral propantheline. None of the patients who failed to respond to the parenteral medication had a favorable response to the orally administered drug.

RESUMO

A total of 33 patients who demonstrated detrusor areflexia during cystometry underwent the bethanechol denervation supersensitivity test. In each instance the presence or absence of a neurologic lesion was documented carefully by complete neurologic evaluation. Of the 21 patients with a neurogenic bladder there was a falsely negative rate of 24 per cent. Of the 12 patients without a neurogenic bladder the falsely positive rate was 50 per cent. It is concluded that a positive bethanechol test is not by itself indicative of neurogenic bladder nor does a negative test exclude this diagnosis.
