RESUMO

In a gnotobiotic piglet infected with 50.10(6) oocysts of Cryptosporidium parvum, developmental stages of the parasite were found in the duodenum, anterior jejunum and middle jejunum on the first day post infection (1 DPI). During the studies of the ultrastructure, trophozoites and meronts of C. parvum were encountered in the microvillous zone of enterocytes, and the outer membrane of parasites was a continuation of the membrane of microvilli. Unusual was the attachment of C. parvum trophozoite on the opening of a goblet cell, as well as a meront localized in the cytoplasm in the enterocyte of anterior jejunum. These findings show that C. parvum is very adaptive and capable of developing in a still undescribed location.

RESUMO

This paper describes a new method for selective staining of hooks of echinococci, cysticerci and tapeworms in histological sections. The method is based on pre-staining in hematoxylin, then the preparations are stained overnight in dilute polychrome blue and differentiated with tartrazine in Cellosolve (Ethylene glycol monoethyl ether or Ethylene glycol monomethyl ether). The hooks stain blue, nuclei brown to brown-green, and cell plasma is yellow. The hooks stain very brightly, which enables the identification of parasite remnants in granulomas and scars. The intensity of staining depends on the grade of maturity and sclerotization of hooks and these are readily observed, even in lower magnifications. The staining was successfully used in a variety of parasites.

RESUMO

Results of histopathological examination of a solitary chronical amoebic abscess in the liver of a patient from Cambodia are described. The abscess was at a proliferously reparative phase and Entamoeba histolytica was detected at the border between the necrosis and inner wall of abscess, as well as in the proper non-specific granulation tissue of the inner layers of abscess capsule. A differential diagnosis of the amoebic abscess from similar parasitary or pseudoparasitary liver lesions and differential diagnosis of amoebae in histological sections are given. For orientation examinations of the liver tissue for the presence of amoebae the authors recommend the impregnation after Grocott and staining with Goldner's trichrome for a more detailed evaluation of histological sections.
