RESUMO

Rubber concrete has been applied to a certain extent in fatigue-resistant structures due to its good durability. Based on a cohesive model of rubber composed of a five-phase material containing mortar, aggregate, rubber, aggregate-mortar interfacial transition zone (ITZ), and rubber-mortar ITZ, this paper studies the influence of the cohesive parameters in the rubber-mortar ITZ on the fatigue problem of rubber concrete on the mesoscopic scale. As the weak part of cement-based composite materials, the ITZ has a great influence on the mechanical properties and durability of concrete, but the performance of the ITZ is difficult to test in macro experiments, resulting in difficulties in determining its simulation parameters. Based on the cohesive model with a rubber content of 5%, this study uses Monofactor analysis and the Plackett-Burman test to quickly and effectively determine the primary and secondary influences of the cohesive model parameters in the rubber-mortar ITZ; further, the response surface method is used to optimize the cohesive parameters in the rubber-mortar ITZ, and the numerical simulation results after optimizing the cohesive parameters are compared and analyzed with the simulation results before optimization. The results show that, under the setting of the optimized parameters, the simulation results of each item of the optimal cohesive model parameters in the rubber-mortar ITZ are in line with the reality and closer to the experimental data, and they are also applicable to rubber concrete models with different rubber dosing.

RESUMO

Objective To screen out the biomarkers linked to prognosis of breast invasive carcinoma based on the analysis of transcriptome data by random forest (RF),extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost),light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM),and categorical boosting (CatBoost). Methods We obtained the expression data of breast invasive carcinoma from The Cancer Genome Atlas and employed DESeq2,t-test,and Cox univariate analysis to identify the differentially expressed protein-coding genes associated with survival prognosis in human breast invasive carcinoma samples.Furthermore,RF,XGBoost,LightGBM,and CatBoost models were established to mine the protein-coding gene markers related to the prognosis of breast invasive cancer and the model performance was compared. The expression data of breast cancer from the Gene Expression Omnibus was used for validation. Results A total of 151 differentially expressed protein-coding genes related to survival prognosis were screened out.The machine learning model established with C3orf80,UGP2,and SPC25 demonstrated the best performance. Conclusions Three protein-coding genes (UGP2,C3orf80,and SPC25) were screened out to identify breast invasive carcinoma. This study provides a new direction for the treatment and diagnosis of breast invasive carcinoma.

RESUMO

Soft tissue defects over the dorsal finger are common and may result from trauma, burns, or surgical management of infections and tumors. We present a case where a bilobed flap was used for the reconstruction of a soft tissue defect dorsal to the proximal phalanx of the ring finger and discuss the design of this flap. The defect was secondary to a collar button abscess of the right third webspace and the surgical debridement required to control the infection. The exposed extensor tendon over the proximal phalanx required coverage. The bilobed flap was designed with the first lobe over the right middle finger proximal phalanx and the second lobe over the right second webspace and index finger. The flap healed uneventfully and the patient had good functional recovery. This design for a bilobed flap is suitable for soft tissue reconstruction of defects over the dorsum of the proximal phalanx. It is a simple, reliable, single-staged procedure that provides like-for-like reconstruction and has minimal donor site morbidity.

RESUMO

Background and Objective: Liver transplantation is a life-saving procedure, but also associated with complications. Hepatic artery thrombosis is one of the most devastating complications, especially for living donor liver transplantation. The application of microsurgical techniques for hepatic artery reconstruction has greatly reduced the risk of hepatic artery thrombosis. In this narrative review, we discuss the technical considerations and challenges faced in microsurgical reconstruction of hepatic artery in liver transplantation. Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar were searched for keywords relating to "liver transplantation", "microsurgery", "living donor liver transplantation", "deceased donor liver transplantation", "hepatic artery", "hepatic artery thrombosis", "hepatic artery reconstruction" and "microsurgical anastomosis". Relevant articles pertaining to the technical considerations and challenges of microsurgery in liver transplantation were included. Key Content and Findings: The conditions of liver transplantation pose unique challenges to the microsurgeon. Nonetheless, there are described strategies that can overcome these conditions, as well as technical details that may improve the outcomes of hepatic artery reconstruction. These strategies start from proper positioning of the patient, conscientious selection of donor and recipient hepatic vessels, and minimizing movements during critical microsurgical anastomosis. Technical details include techniques to overcome vessel delamination, size mismatch, poor quality vessels, and short vessel stump. This review also explores the outcomes of microsurgical hepatic arterial reconstruction. Conclusions: There are various strategies to mitigate the challenges of microsurgery in liver transplant. Microsurgery improves the outcome of liver transplantation. Microsurgeons will continue to be a priceless resource that all liver transplant teams should have.

RESUMO

The exploration initiated by the discovery of the topological insulator (BixSb1-x)2Te3 has extended to unlock the potential of quantum anomalous Hall effects (QAHEs), marking a revolutionary era for topological quantum devices, low-power electronics, and spintronic applications. In this study, we present the epitaxial growth of Cr-doped (Bi0.4Sb0.6)2Te3 (Cr:BST) thin films via molecular beam epitaxy, incorporating various Cr doping concentrations with varying Cr/Sb ratios (0.025, 0.05, 0.075, and 0.1). High-quality crystalline of the Cr:BST thin films deposited on a c-plane sapphire substrate has been rigorously confirmed through reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) analyses. The existence of a Cr dopant has been identified with a reduction in the lattice parameter of BST from 30.53 ± 0.05 to 30.06 ± 0.04 Å confirmed by X-ray diffraction, and the valence state of Cr verified by X-ray photoemission (XPS) at binding energies of ~573.1 and ~583.5 eV. Additionally, the influence of Cr doping on lattice vibration was qualitatively examined by Raman spectroscopy, revealing a blue shift in peaks with increased Cr concentration. Surface characteristics, crucial for the functionality of topological insulators, were explored via Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), illustrating a sevenfold reduction in surface roughness as the Cr concentration increased from 0 to 0.1. The ferromagnetic properties of Cr:BST were examined by a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) with a magnetic field applied in out-of-plane and in-plane directions. The Cr:BST samples exhibited a Curie temperature (Tc) above 50 K, accompanied by increased magnetization and coercivity with increasing Cr doping levels. The introduction of the Cr dopant induces a transition from n-type ((Bi0.4Sb0.6)2Te3) to p-type (Cr:(Bi0.4Sb0.6)2Te3) carriers, demonstrating a remarkable suppression of carrier density up to one order of magnitude, concurrently enhancing carrier mobility up to a factor of 5. This pivotal outcome is poised to significantly influence the development of QAHE studies and spintronic applications.

RESUMO

The incorporation of rubber can enhance concrete's durability and effectively reduce the damage caused by freeze-thaw cycling (FTC). Still, there has been only limited research on the damage mechanism of RC at the fine view level. To gain insight into the expansion process of uniaxial compression damage cracks in rubber concrete (RC) and summarize the internal temperature field distribution law during FTC, a fine RC thermodynamic model containing mortar, aggregate, rubber, water, and interfacial transition zone (ITZ) is established in this paper, and the cohesive element is selected for the ITZ part. The model can be used to study the mechanical properties of concrete before and after FTC. The validity of the calculation method was verified by comparing the calculated results of the compressive strength of concrete before and after FTC with the experimental results. On this basis, this study analyzed the compressive crack extension and internal temperature distribution of RC at 0, 5, 10, and 15% replacement rates before and after 0, 50, 100, and 150 cycles of FTC. The results showed that the fine-scale numerical simulation method can effectively reflect the mechanical properties of RC before and after FTC, and the computational results verify the applicability of the method to rubber concrete. The model can effectively reflect the uniaxial compression cracking pattern of RC before and after FTC. Incorporating rubber can impede temperature transfer and reduce the compressive strength loss caused by FTC in concrete. The FTC damage to RC can be reduced to a greater extent when the rubber incorporation is 10%.

RESUMO

Rubber concrete (RC) exhibits high durability due to the rubber admixture. It is widely used in a large number of fatigue-resistant structures. Mesoscale studies are used to study the composition of polymers, but there is no method for fatigue simulation of RC. Therefore, this paper presents a finite element modeling approach to study the fatigue problem of RC on the mesoscale, which includes the random generation of the main components of the RC mesoscale structure. We also model the interfacial transition zone (ITZ) of aggregate mortar and the ITZ of rubber mortar. This paper combines the theory of concrete damage to plastic with the method of zero-thickness cohesive elements in the ITZ, and it is a new numerical approach. The results show that the model can simulate reasonably well the random damage pattern after RC beam load damage. The damage occurred in the middle of the beam span and tended to follow the ITZ. The model can predict the fatigue life of RC under various loads.

RESUMO

Nanolattices can play the role of templates for metals and metallic alloys to produce functional nanocomposites with particular properties affected by nanoconfinement. To imitate the impact of nanoconfinement on the structure of solid eutectic alloys, we filled porous silica glasses with the Ga-In alloy, which is widely used in applications. Small-angle neutron scattering was observed for two nanocomposites, which comprised alloys of close compositions. The results obtained were treated using different approaches: the common Guinier and extended Guinier models, the recently suggested computer simulation method based on the initial formulae for neutron scattering, and ordinary estimates of the scattering hump positions. All of the approaches predicted a similar structure of the confined eutectic alloy. The formation of ellipsoid-like indium-rich segregates was demonstrated.

RESUMO

Long-segment lichen sclerosus (LS) urethral stricture is a challenge for urologists. Limited data are available for surgeons to make a surgical decision between Kulkarni and Asopa urethroplasty. In this retrospective study, we investigated the outcomes of these two procedures in patients with LS urethral stricture. Between January 2015 and December 2020, 77 patients with LS urethral stricture underwent Kulkarni and Asopa procedures for urethroplasty in the Department of Urology, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (Shanghai, China). Of the 77 patients, 42 (54.5%) underwent the Asopa procedure and 35 (45.5%) underwent the Kulkarni procedure. The overall complication rate was 34.2% in the Kulkarni group and 19.0% in the Asopa group, and no difference was observed ( P = 0.105). Among the complications, no statistical difference was observed in the incidence of urethral stricture recurrence ( P = 0.724) or glans dehiscence ( P = 0.246) except for postoperative meatus stenosis ( P = 0.020). However, the recurrence-free survival rate between the two procedures was significantly different ( P = 0.016). Cox survival analysis showed that antiplatelet/anticoagulant therapy use ( P = 0.020), diabetes ( P = 0.003), current/former smoking ( P = 0.019), coronary heart disease ( P < 0.001), and stricture length ( P = 0.028) may lead to a higher hazard ratio of complications. Even so, these two techniques can still provide acceptable results with their own advantages in the surgical treatment of LS urethral strictures. The surgical alternative should be considered comprehensively according to the patient characteristics and surgeon preferences. Moreover, our results showed that antiplatelet/anticoagulant therapy use, diabetes, coronary heart disease, current/former smoking, and stricture length may be contributing factors of complications. Therefore, patients with LS are advised to undergo early interventions for better therapeutic effects.

RESUMO

Chuandong Cave is an important Late Paleolithic site because it documents the early appearance of bone tools in southern China. We used the single-aliquot regenerative-dose protocol for optically stimulated luminescence dating to improve the precision of the chronology for the Chuandong Cave sedimentary sequence. The age of each layer was determined using a Bayesian modeling approach which combined optically stimulated luminescence ages with published AMS 14C dates. The results showed that Layer 10 began accumulating since 56 ± 14 ka and provides the upper age limit for all artifacts from the sequence. Bone awl tools from Layer 8, the earliest grinding bone tools in this site, were recovered within sediments between 40 ± 7 ka and 30 ± 4 ka. Layer 8 also indicates the appearance of modern humans in the Chuandong Cave sequence. Layers 4-2, ranging from 15 ± 3 ka until 11 ± 1 ka and including the Younger Dryas period, contain a few bone awls and an eyed bone needle. The shift from bone awls to eyed bone needles in the Chuandong Cave sequence indicates that modern humans adapted to the changing climate of southern China. We conclude that modern human behavior in bone tools appeared in southern China as early as 40 ± 7 ka, became more sophisticated during the Last Glacial Maximum, and spread more widely across southern China during the Younger Dryas.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The disruption of the balance between osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in bone marrow contributes to the adipocytes accumulation and bone loss, which leads to the development of osteoporosis (OP). The circular RNA (circRNA), circRBM23, was generated from the RNA binding motif protein 23 (RBM23) gene. It was reported that circRBM23 was down-regulated in OP patients, but it remains unknown whether its down-regulation is involved in the lineage switch of MSCs. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to explore the role and mechanism of circRBM23 in regulating the switch between osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation of MSCs. METHODS: The expression and function of circRBM23 in vitro were detected by qRT-PCR, alizarin red staining, and oil Red O staining. The interactions between circRBM23 and microRNA-338-3p (miR-338-3p) were analyzed by RNA pull-down assay, FISH, and dual-luciferase reporter assay. MSCs treated with lentivirus overexpression of circRBM23 was applied for both in vitro and in vivo experiments. RESULTS: CircRBM23 was expressed at lower levels in OP patients. Besides, circRBM23 was up-regulated during osteogenesis and down-regulated during adipogenesis of MSCs. CircRBM23 could promote the osteogenic differentiation but inhibit the adipogenic differentiation of MSCs. Mechanistically, circRBM23 acted as a sponge for microRNA-338-3p (miR-338-3p) to enhance the expression of RUNX family transcription factor 2 (RUNX2). CONCLUSIONS: Our research indicates that circRBM23 could promote the switch from adipogenic to osteogenic differentiation of MSCs via sponging miR-338-3p. It might improve the understanding of the lineage switch of MSCs and provide a potential target for diagnosing and treating OP.

RESUMO

Objective: A systematic review was conducted to examine resilience in bipolar disorder (BD) and its relationship to demographic, psychopathology, illness features, and psychosocial functioning.Data Sources: A literature search was conducted from database inception to August 2022 using PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, and PsycINFO. Reference lists were also manually searched for relevant articles.Study Selection: Studies were included if they involved patients with a primary diagnosis of BD, were published in English, and measured resilience using a clearly defined rating scale. Studies were excluded if they were case reports, systematic reviews, or conference articles. Of the initial 100 records screened after duplicates were removed, 29 articles were finally included in the systematic review.Data Extraction: Information extracted included the number and type of subjects, socio-demographic characteristics, resilience scale(s) used, and relevant clinical correlates. Results: Higher resilience in BD was associated with specific psychopathology (lower severity of depressive and psychotic symptoms; less rumination, hopelessness, impulsivity, and aggression; fewer depressive episodes and suicide attempts), clinical features (self-directed temperament, less childhood trauma, and positive attitudes toward pharmacologic treatment), social factors (better social support and family organization), and psychosocial functioning (better quality of life, social functioning, personal recovery, and spiritual well-being). Resilience also mediated pathways between childhood trauma, depression, and quality of life. Conclusions: Based on resilience models, BD patients can be helped to better manage challenges and stressors and bolster internal compensatory factors and external protective factors during the course of their illness.

RESUMO

For applications of nanolattices in low-temperature nanoelectronics, the inter-unit space can be filled with superconducting metallic alloys. However, superconductivity under nanoconfinement is expected to be strongly affected by size-effects and other factors. We studied the magnetic properties and structure of the Ga-Sn eutectic alloy within regular nanopores of an opal template, to understand the specifics of the alloy superconductivity. Two superconducting transitions were observed, in contrast to the bulk alloy. The transitions were ascribed to the segregates with the structures of tetragonal tin and a particular gallium polymorph. The superconducting-phase diagram was constructed, which demonstrated crossovers from the positive- to the common negative-curvature of the upper critical-field lines. Hysteresis was found between the susceptibilities obtained at cooling and warming in the applied magnetic field.

RESUMO

A new copper indium selenide, Ba3.5Cu7.55In1.15Se9, was synthesized by the KBr flux reaction at 800 °C. The compound crystallizes with orthorhombic Pnma, a = 46.1700(12) Å, b = 4.26710(10) Å, c = 19.8125(5) Å, and Z = 8. The structural framework mainly consists of four sites of cubane-type defective M4Se3 (M = Cu, Cu/In) units with disordered Cu+/In3+ ions present at the part corner of each unit. The single crystal emits intense photoluminescence at 657 nm with a relative quantum yield (RQY) 0.2 times that of rhodamine 6G powder. The compound belongs to a direct band gap at 1.91 eV, analyzed by Tauc's plot, and the energy is close to the PL position. The Hall effect measurement on a pressed pellet reveals an n-type conductivity with a carrier concentration of 3.358 × 1017 cm-3 and a mobility of 24.331 cm2 V-1 s-1. Furthermore, the compound produces a strong nonlinear third-harmonic generation (THG), with an χS(3) value of 1.3 × 105 pm2/V2 comparable to 1.6 × 105 pm2/V2 for AgGaSe2 measured at 800 nm.

RESUMO

Artificial urethral sphincter (AUS) implantation is the definitive management of male stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Under the long-term pressure of the cuff, recurrence of incontinence caused by urethral atrophy can always be observed in patients. In this situation, distal cuff locations are needed, and new cuff sites should be sought in patients who need to undergo AUS reimplantations. Meanwhile, the circumference of the more distal urethra is often too small to fit with a 4.0 cm cuff. This means that the bulk of the urethra should be added not only for a sufficient urethral circumference but also for better protection. Here, we report a case that required AUS reimplantation because of urethral atrophy. This 73-year-old man had undergone AUS implantation 7 years ago and developed incontinence in the past 3 months. Physical examination and ultrasonography determined that the device still worked, and no obstruction or injury was observed through cystoscopy. Surgery for revision of the AUS was needed. In this operation, a new cuff was implanted transcorporally, which was 2 to 3 cm distal to the original cuff site. During a 6 month short-term follow-up, no stress incontinence, urethral injury, or dysuria was observed. The transcorporal technique offers significant advantages in patients with urethral atrophy: corporal tunica albuginea is added to the urethra, allowing a suitable cuff size and lower risk of erosion. It is worth recommending in the reoperation of AUS implantation.

RESUMO

Background: This study describes and compares three surgical procedures for the construction of urethral stricture (US) models in rabbits. Methods: Forty adult male rabbits were allocated to four groups: 36 rabbits were randomly assigned to three experimental groups, while the remaining 4 were assigned to a sham group. The penis was separated from the rectum. Then along the ventral midline, a longitudinal penile skin incision was made while ensuring that the urethral mucosa was intact and the muscular layer was not completely incised. In group 1 (n=12), ventral semi-circumferential mucosa electrocoagulation of a 1-cm length of the anterior urethra was performed until ulceration occurred. In group 2 (n=12), the ventral urethral mucosa was incised, and electrocoagulation of the dorsal semi-circumferential mucosa was performed. In group 3 (n=12), whole-circumferential mucosa electrocoagulation was performed. In group 4 (n=4), no special treatment was performed. Four weeks later, urethrography, urethroscopy, and histological evaluation were carried out. Results: The weights of the rabbits in the four groups were comparable. There was no significant difference between groups 2 and 3 with regard to operative time, but the operative time in these groups was significantly longer than that in group 1 (group 2 vs. group 1: P<0.05, group 3 vs. group 1: P<0.001). After the surgery, urinary fistula with infection occurred in one rabbit in group 1, and one rabbit died due to urethral atresia in group 3. According to the urethrography and urethroscopy findings, 9 out of 12 rabbits in group 1, 5 out of 12 rabbits in group 2, and 11 out of 11 rabbits in group 3 developed US, while no rabbits in the sham group developed US. Histopathological examination revealed injury to the urothelium, inflammatory infiltration, a decrease in the amount of blood vessels and smooth muscle fibers, and a decrease in the amount of collagen fibers. Conclusions: Compared with the semi-circumferential procedures, the whole-circumferential procedure had a higher success rate. Therefore, this procedure seems to have potential for the construction of long-segment rabbit US models.

RESUMO

Potential applications of nanolattices often require filling their empty space with eutectic metallic alloys. Due to confinement to nanolattices, the structure of phase segregates in eutectic alloys can differ from that in bulk. These problems are poorly understood now. We have used small angle neutron scattering (SANS) to study the segregation in the Ga-In alloy confined to an opal template with the regular pore network, created by a strict regularity of opal constituents in close similarity with nanolattices. We showed that SANS is a powerful tool to reveal the configuration of segregated phases within nanotemplates. The In-rich segregates were found to have specific structural features as small sizes and ordered arrangement.

RESUMO

The aberrant downregulation of circCDC6 in colorectal cancer (CRC) was previously identified by circRNA microarray analysis. However, the detailed role of circCDC6 in CRC is still lacking. We thus investigated the function of circCDC6 in CRC. The expression of circCDC6, miR-3187-3p and PRKAA2 mRNA was checked by real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). Cell growth was evaluated by MTT, EdU and colony formation assays. Cell apoptosis was evaluated by flow cytometry. Glycolysis was evaluated by glycolysis stress test and lactic acid level. The expression of PRKAA2, HK2 and LDHA proteins was checked by western blotting. The potential binding between miR-3187-3p and circCDC6 or PRKAA2 was confirmed by dual-luciferase reporter assay, RIP assay and pull-down assay. Xenograft model was established in nude mice. CircCDC6 showed poor expression in CRC tumor samples and cells. CircCDC6 ectopic expression repressed CRC cell proliferation, survival and glycolysis energy metabolism. MiR-3187-3p was targeted by circCDC6, and miR-3187-3p depletion also repressed CRC cell growth and glycolysis. PRKAA2 was a downstream target of circCDC6/miR-3187-3p pathway, and circCDC6 upregulated PRKAA2 expression via targeting miR-3187-3p. PRKAA2 knockdown rescued the functional effects of circCDC6 ectopic expression. CircCDC6 overexpression in vivo impeded tumor development in animal models. CircCDC6, acting as a tumor inhibitor, repressed tumor growth and glycolysis metabolism in CRC via targeting the miR-3187-3p/PRKAA2 axis, which partly clarified the role of circCDC6 in CRC.
