RESUMO

The review provides an analysis of literature data on the persistent form of Bovine Viral diarrhea/Mucosal disease (BVD) and is focused on virus and host factors, including those related to immune response, that contribute the persistence of the virus. BVD is a cattle disease widespread throughout the world that causes significant economic damage to dairy and beef cattle. The disease is characterized by a variety of clinical signs, including damage to the digestive and respiratory organs, abortions, stillbirths and other failures of reproductive functions.

RESUMO

This work is devoted to studying the morphology and biology of preimaginal stages of development of the parasitic wasp Minotetrastichus frontalis. The morphological characteristics of eggs and larvae, the features of interaction of the parasitic wasp with the host (Phyllonorycter issikii), and other biological characteristics were determined. For the species identification of the studied specimens of insects, we performed molecular genetic analysis using a nuclear 28S RNA gene fragment as a molecular marker. The result showed a strong genetic polymorphism of the populations of the studied species for the selected marker.

RESUMO

For treatment of metastatic lung lesions there was used the method isolated chemoperfusion of the lung in combination with metastasectomy. The study includes 74 patients with metastases in the lungs who underwent 101 normothermal isolated chemoperfusion of the lung: of these 38 (37,6%) with melphalan and 63 (62,4%) with cisplatin without lethality. In the early postoperative period 1 (1,4%) patient died due to postperfusion lung edema. The period of observation of patients ranged from 2 to 99 months (median 29.3 months). Of 74 patients 53 (71,6%) patients are alive, 2 (2,7%) patients died from causes unrelated to the underlying disease. 43 (58,1%) patients showed progression of disease, what in 18 (41,9%) of them was the cause of death. Repeated appearance of metastases in perfused lung was detected in 30 (40,5%) patients. A 5-year disease-free (in the lungs) and observed survival of patients after isolated chemoperfusion of the lung with metastasectomy was 45% (median 46 months) and 59% (median not reached) respectively. There were established predictors of effectiveness of isolated chemoperfusion of the lung with metastasectomy: DFI> 13 months, ≤5 metastatic nodes in the lungs, the size of the largest metastasis in the lungs ≤20 mm, intralobular location of metastases in the lungs as well as the time of doubling the volume of metastases >64 days for chest computed tomography.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was a comparison of the X-ray density in certain organs and anatomical structures and the determination of the radiation exposure during venous-arterial MSCT scanning and classical two-phase CT of organs of the abdominal cavity. It has been established that the technique of venous-arterial MSCT scanning provided a significant reduction of radiation dose during CT of organs of the abdominal cavity and could be used as an alternative to two-phase examination in the process of dynamic monitoring of cancer patients.

RESUMO

For treatment of metastatic lung lesions there was used the method of isolated chemoperfusion in combination with metastasectomy. The study included 74 patients (mean age 43 ± 13.4 years). There were performed 99 normothermic isolated chemoperfusions of the lung: with melphalan (39) and cisplatin (60). During surgery there were no lethality outcomes. In the immediate postoperative period it was recorded 1 (1.4%) death developed in 3 days after surgery. The cause of this death was postperfusion lung edema accompanied by increase of signs of respiratory insufficiency. There were following complications after isolated chemoperfusions of the lung: anemia--23 (23.1%), nausea--13 (13.1%), vomiting--5 (5.1%), atrial fibrillation--10 (10.1%), pneumonia-2 (2.0%), pulmonary infarction--2 (2.0%), chylothorax--1 (1.0%), pneumothorax--29 (29.3%), emphysema of soft tissues of the chest wall 73 (73.7% ). Thus isolated chemoperfusion of the lung with melphalan or cisplatin is a procedure reproducible and relatively safe.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to analyze the causes of false results in the ultrasound (US) and sonoelastography (SEG) examination of non-palpable and palpable lesions of the breast. The efficacy of diagnosis of non-palpable and palpable lesions by US and SEG was compared. 211 women with histologically confirmed focal breast lesions (146 non-palpable and 65 palpable) were included in the group. Women had a mean age of 52.0 +/- 13.6 years. The diameter of non-palpable lesions was less than 2 cm. Local mastopathy and medullar carcinoma were the reason of false results in most US. SEG allowed differentiating of these lesions. We found that SEG increased the specificity of diagnostics of non-palpable breast lesions by 19%.

RESUMO

The surgical operation is a principal and in most cases a solitary treatment for non-organ retroperitoneal tumors. High risk of recurrence, aptitude to large local extension dictates necessity of individual surgical plan. An equality of approach is excluded. Pre-operative specified diagnostics of tumor extension is extremely important. We present an experience of determination of such characteristics of non-organ retroperitoneal tumors, which influence the extent of surgery (multiple lesions, invasion of adjacent vessels and organs).

RESUMO

We have investigated the substrate properties of deoxyribonucleoside 5'-triphosphate analogues, modified in the carbohydrate and triphosphate moieties, in DNA synthesis catalyzed by different DNA polymerases and reverse transcriptases. It was shown that (3'-azido-2',3'-dideoxythymidine-5'-O-methylenephosphonate) diphosphate, (3'-azido-2',3'-dideoxythymidine 5'-phosphate) dibromomethylenediphosphonate, (3'-azido-2',3'-dideoxythymidine 5'-phosphate) phosphonoacetate terminate DNA synthesis catalyzed by reverse transcriptases. (2'-Deoxythymidine 5'-phosphate) phosphonoacetate displays substrate properties for DNA polymerase beta, different reverse transcriptases, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase, but not for DNA polymerase alpha, Klenow's fragment DNA polymerase I. The Km value for this substance in DNA synthesis reactions catalyzed by reverse transcriptases was two of orders magnitude higher than that for native 2'-deoxythymidine 5'-triphosphate.
