RESUMO

It has been shown that in offsprings of both sex F1, one or both parents (F0) of which were exposed to X-ray radiation at a dose of 1 Gy (the dose rate was 0.4 Gy/min), and in offsprings of 6 generations (F1-F6), parents (F0) of which were placed in to the Chernobyl zone at a pubertal age, the hypertrophy and hyperactivity of isolated adrenals were observed in the different periods of life. The decrease of adrenals' reactivity in response to ACTH (0.1 ED/ml) was found in males of all generations. Most expressed damages of adrenal glands' reactivity were marked in males F6.

RESUMO

Three-month old white mongrel rats (F0) were exposed to X-rays (single exposure dose 1 Gy). Their offsprings F1 were subjected to acute hypokinezia for 60 minutes at different periods of life. The changes of the hormonic status were revealed in males F1; in females F1 deviations were not observed. The stress reactivity of males F1 depended on which of the parents was exposed to radiation. After irradiation of both parents or males F0 only the hyporeactivity in senile age was more pronounced their in control animals of the same age. After irradiation of females F0 only a response to stress in male offsprings F1 corresponded to the control values.

RESUMO

Similar changes in blood levels of immunoreactive insulin (IRI) and glucocorticoids (GC) were observed in rats, mice and dogs after X-irradiation with lethal doses. The use of the blood GC/IRI ratio indices in estimating the functional status of the exposed organism is discussed.

RESUMO

Short-term hypoglycemic effect of thymosin was found in intact mice and in animals with alloxan diabetes: single intramuscular administration of 5 mg/kg of thymosin was accompanied by a decrease in glucose content in blood within 15-30 min. Increase in content of immunoreactive insulin in blood was responsible for the hypoglycemia, while the direct insulinotropic effect of thymosin was not observed in isolated pancreas.

RESUMO

The effect of taurine on the regulation of function of the insular apparatus and adrenal cortex of rats with experimental alloxan diabetes was studied. The assessment of the state of the endocrine glands was based on the determination of the content of immunoreactive insulin, total, free and protein-bound 11-oxycorticosteroids (11-OCS) in the blood of rats and a study of the secretory ability of the adrenals and pancreatic fragments in vitro. A single administration of taurine (300 mg/kg per os) to the rats with experimental alloxan diabetes was accompanied by the reduction of the content of immunoreactive insulin, total and free 11-OCS in the blood, a secretory ability of the adrenal cortex and insulin excretory function of the pancreas. The ability of the pancreatic islet tissue to produce insulin in vitro in response to the natural stimulator glucose was disturbed in the rats with experimental diabetes. Taurine (12 mumol/ml) added to the incubation medium containing isolated adrenals and fragments of the pancreas from the diabetic animals, caused a decrease in a high secretory ability of the cortical substance of the adrenal glands and a partial reduction of the insulin secretory ability of the pancreatic tissue.

RESUMO

As early as 0.5-3 h after X-irradiation of rats with a lethal dose of 12 Gy glucocorticoid activity of adrenal cortex was enhanced and 11-oxycorticosteroid level in blood was increased. The increasing of the immunoreactive insulin content of blood was registered at the background of hypercorticoidism and normal function of insular apparatus during the first hours following irradiation. At later times (24-72 h), a stable hypercorticoidism developed, the ability of beta-cells to react adequately to glucose was impaired, and IRI content of blood decreased.

RESUMO

The administration to rats of amino acids (valine, leucine, and isoleucine) for 10 days after whole-body X-irradiation with a dose of 7 Gy increased the survival rate and average life of animals and normalized some carbohydrate and nitrogen metabolism indexes. The insulin-like effect of these amino acids on glucose absorption by phrenic muscles of the exposed rats was detected.
