RESUMO

Treatment of [Et4N][(Me2Tp)W(CO)3] (Me2Tp = HB(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)3) with S8 in DMF at room temperature afforded a tris(sulfido) complex [Et4N][(Me2Tp)WS3] (1a), while that of [Et4N][TpW(CO)3] (Tp = HB(pyrazol-1-yl)3) in MeCN resulted in the formation of [Et4N][TpWS3] (1b) along with [Et4N]2[[WO(S2)2]2(mu-S)] (6) as a byproduct. Under similar conditions, [Et4N][(Me2Tp)Mo(CO)3] gave a mixture of a sulfido-tetrasulfido complex [Et4N][(Me2Tp)MoS(S4)] (2a) and its monooxo analogue [Et4N][(Me2Tp)MoO(S4)], although a sulfido-tetrasulfido complex [Et4N][TpMoS(S4)] (2b) was exclusively obtained from [Et4N][TpMo(CO)3]. The reaction of 1a with [PtCl2(cod)] (cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) in MeCN at room temperature led to the formation of a sulfido-bridged mixed-metal complex [Et4N][(Me2Tp)WS(mu-S)2PtCl2] (10). The structures of new complexes have been determined in detail by the X-ray analyses for 1a.MeCN, 1b, 2a, 2b, 6, and 10.

RESUMO

A zero-valent [M(Ph(2)PCH(2)CH(2)PPh(2))(2)] moiety (M = Mo, W) generated in situ by dissociation of the N(2) ligands in trans-[M(N(2))(2)(Ph(2)PCH(2)CH(2)PPh(2))(2)] can activate pi-accepting organic molecules including isocyanides and nitriles, which undergo the electrophilic attack caused by a strong pi-donation from a zero-valent metal center. Cleavage of a variety of C-X bonds (X = H, C, N, O, P, halogen) also occurs at their electron-rich sites through oxidative addition to form reactive intermediates, which subsequently degradate to yield smaller molecules either bound to or dissociated from the metal center. The mechanism is substantiated unambiguously by isolation of numerous intermediate stages.

RESUMO

Chiral ruthenium(II) complexes, RuCl2(PPh3)(oxazolinylferrocenylphosphine), have been found to be effective catalysts for asymmetric hydrosilylation of ketoximes to give the corresponding primary amines in good yields with high enantioselectivities (up to 89% ee) after acid hydrolysis.

RESUMO

Cubane-type sulfido clusters containing noble metals are newcomers compared with the corresponding clusters of the first transition series metals and molybdenum, which have been extensively studied in relation to metalloenzymes and industrial hydrodesulfurization catalysts. This Account reviews the recent progress in studies on the synthesis and reactivities of these noble metal cubane-type clusters. One of the goals in this new area lies in development of the unique catalysis of the noble metals embedded in the robust and redox-active cubane-type cores. Rational synthetic approaches indispensable to the preparation of such effective cluster catalysts are discussed to a significant extent.

RESUMO

A single crystal of the title compound [MnII6(H2O)9[W(V)(CN)8]4 x 13H2O]n was synthesized in a hot aqueous solution containing octacyanotungstate, Na3[W(CN)8] x 3H2O, and Mn(ClO4)2 x 6H2O. The compound crystallized in the monoclinic system, space group P2(1)/c with cell constants a = 15.438(2) A, b = 14.691(2) A, c = 33.046(2) A, beta = 94.832(9) degrees, and Z = 4. The crystal consists of a W(V)-CN-MnII linked three-dimensional network [[MnII(H2O)]3[MnII(H2O)2]3[W(V)(CN)8]4]n and H2O molecules as crystal solvates. There are two kinds of W sites: one is close to a dodecahedron geometry with six bridging and two terminal CN ligands; the other is close to a bicapped trigonal prism with seven bridging and one terminal CN ligands. The field-cooled magnetization measurement showed that the compound exhibits a spontaneous magnetization below Tc = 54 K. Further magnetization measurements on the field dependence reveal it to be a ferrimagnet where all of the MnII ions are antiparallel to all the W(V) ions.

RESUMO

1. To further investigate a previous postulate that increased serotonergic activity may cause depression, the effects of chronic mianserin administration on 5-HT, its metabolites, and the subtypes of 5-HT receptors were studied. 2. The levels of 5-HT, 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, 5-HTP, 5-HT turnover and their response to 5-HTP administration all exhibited no change following mianserin treatment. 3. The Bmax value of the high affinity site of the 5-HT-1A receptor increased and the Bmax value of 5-HT-2 receptor decreased with no change in the low affinity site of the 5-HT-1A receptor nor in the 5-HT-1B receptor. 4. The response to 5-HTP administration showed no change in any of these receptors. 5. These results suggest that the chronic mianserin administration might block both the 5-HT-2 and 5-HT-1A receptors in the 5-hydroxytryptophan depression model.

RESUMO

A 55-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of left hemiparesis. Brain CT and cerebral angiography demonstrated cerebral embolism due to occlusion of the sphenoidal part of the right middle cerebral artery. Two-dimensional echocardiography revealed mitral valve vegetation measuring 10 x 7 mm and slight mitral-valve regurgitation. Blood cultures were negative. She developed disseminated intravascular coagulation. Chest roentgenography and abdominal ultrasonography showed multiple liver and lung tumors, but she died before the primary lesion was detected. At autopsy, adenocarcinoma of the gall bladder was found. Friable vegetation was attached to the auricular surface of the mitral valve. Microscopic examination confirmed the diagnosis of nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis. Although echocardiography is an important tool for diagnosing nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis, few reports have described echocardiographic detection of nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis. Because vegetation of nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis is smaller than that of infective endocarditis (less than 3 mm), it is difficult for echocardiography to detect nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis. Thus, a negative examination does not exclude the possibility of nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis. To make an antemortem diagnosis of nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis, we must perform echocardiography carefully in cases of cerebral infarction with carcinoma and/or DIC.

RESUMO

For phenomenological elucidation of panic attacks, 26 patients with panic attacks were requested to name the panic symptoms in order of their occurrence and specify the patterns of their abatement. Panic symptoms were found to be classifiable into three categories: early symptoms consisting of dizziness or faintness, palpitations, and sweating; intermediate symptoms dyspnea, nausea or abdominal distress, flush or chills, chest pain or discomfort, shaking, and choking; late symptoms paresthesias, fear of dying, and fear of going crazy. Panic symptoms disappeared in 61.6% irrespective of the sequence of their occurrence. Twenty-one patients were interviewed about the experience of nocturnal panic attacks, and 23.8% experienced them. These findings suggest that fear is caused by sudden physical abnormality triggered by some biological factors.

RESUMO

1. A possible coupling of the rat cerebral cortex 5-hydroxytryptamine (5HT)-1A receptors to isletactivating protein (IAP, pertussis toxin) sensitive Gi protein was investigated by studying the effects of a guanosine 5'-triphosphate (GTP) and IAP injection to the rat ventricle. 2. Scatchard analysis showed that Bmax value of the high-affinity componentin [3H]8-hydroxy-2-(di-n-propylamino) tetralin (8-OH-DPAT) binding was decreased by pretreatment with IAP. 3. GTP caused a significant decreased Bmax of the high affinity site for [3H]8-OH-DPAT binding. It was noted that the IAP suppressed the cyclic AMP production by 5HT, VIP and Forskolin. 4. These results suggest that the rat cortex 5HT-1A receptors are linked to the Gi protein. 5. After 3 weeks chronic administration of amitriptyline (5mg/kg), desipramine (5mg/kg), imipramine (5mg/kg), doxepin (5mg/kg) and trazodone (10mg/kg), the receptor binding assay was carried out on 5HT-1A receptors. 6. It was observed that all the antidepressant drugs except for imipramine increased the number of high-affinity sites of the 5HT-1A receptors in the frontal cortex. 7. These results suggested that the increase of the Bmax for the 5HT-1A receptor might be related to the effectiveness of the antidepressant drugs.

RESUMO

A fact-finding survey was conducted to ascertain the treatment of 298 patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) who were referred to our coronary care unit (CCU) from other medical facilities between May 1978 and December 1987. The controls consisted of 169 patients with AMI who were admitted directly to our CCU during the same period. The mean time from onset of AMI to admission to our CCU was 21.7 +/- 67.9 hours (mean +/- SD) for patients from other medical facilities, and it took longer than that of the controls (11.7 +/- 34.9 hours). However, the mortality was 19.8%, being lower than that of the controls (26.0%). By the Killip's classification, there was no significant differences between both patient groups who belonged to Killip groups I, II and IV, but the mortality of cases in Killip group III was 3.7%, which was lower than that of the controls (7.15%). Among the 298 cases, 169 (56.7%) had received some kind of emergency treatment, and their mortality was 29.9%. However, the mortality of the remaining 129 cases (43.3%) who had received no emergency treatment was only 17.1%. The reason for this contradictory result is attributed to the fact that the former group included relatively severe cases. The number of patients receiving emergency treatment has gradually increased recently; however, the overall results achieved were not satisfactory even with appropriate therapy. Since April 1984, conferences with local practitioners have been held concerning emergency treatment for ischemic heart disease. This resulted in better understanding of CCU among the practitioners, less time delay until admission, and increased frequency and higher quality of emergency treatment. However, the mortality in the CCU did not decline, probably because of the relatively high rate of severe cases. To reduce mortality of AMI, a communication network should be established between practitioners and the CCU.
