RESUMO

Twelve men suffering from bilharzial hepatic fibrosis were evaluated with regard to their semen analyses and serum levels of FSH, LH, PRL, in addition to plasma testosterone (T) and estradiol E2. Semen analysis in the patient group showed a significant decrease in sperm counts compared with normal controls. Sperm motility and percentage of abnormal forms were not much affected. A significant increase of sera FSH and LH was found in hepatic patients together with a lowered T level. PRL and E2 levels were not significantly affected in the patient group compared with controls. The elevated serum FSH and LH together with the lowered level serum T would suggest a primary testicular dysfunction in cases of bilharzial hepatic fibrosis.

RESUMO

Alloplastic spermatocele implants were used for 11 infertile men with bilateral congenital absent vas. Successful recovery of spermatozoa from the prosthesis was obtained in 8 cases for periods up to 4 months after the operation. Single aspirations showed 200,000 to 30 million spermatozoa, and the aspirated volume varied between 0.4 and 1.0 ml. Artificial insemination of the wife was done at the time of ovulation, but no pregnancy has been achieved yet. In only 3 cases the aspirated fluid did not show spermatozoa, which might be due to occlusion of the vasa efferentia or ductus epididymis.

RESUMO

The continued experience of testicular biopsy application in 861 cases of azoospermia and 152 cases of severe oligospermia is reported adding to the previously published cases of 1075 patients with azoospermia. The most common finding in the whole series was that of normal testis denoting obstruction (48%), while among cases of functional azoospermia, Sertoli cell only and spermatogenic arrest were the most frequent (66%).
