RESUMO

A computational complexity, power consumption, and receiver sensitivity analysis for three different scenarios for short-range direct detection links is presented: 1) quad-polarization, 2) wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), and 3) parallel optics. Results show that the power consumption penalty associated to the quad-polarization digital signal processing (DSP) is negligibly small. However, the required analog to digital converters account for 47.6% of the total system power consumption. Transmission of 4×32 Gbps over 2 km standard single mode fiber is achieved with a receiver sensitivity of 4.4 dBm.

RESUMO

This paper presents a revitalization effort towards exploiting multilevel polybinary signals for spectral efficient data links. Specifically, we present five level polybinary signaling for 10 Gbps signals. By proper coding to avoid error propagation and degeneracy of the bit error rate performance, a 10 Gbps polybinary signal is successfully generated employing a 1.8 GHz Bessel filter with an electrical spectral efficiency of 5.5 bit/s/Hz. The experimental results show bit error rate performances below FEC level for transmission in singlemode and dispersion shifted fibers up to 20 km length.

RESUMO

We report on experimental demonstration of 2x2 MIMO-OFDM 5.6-GHz radio over fiber signaling over 20 km WDM-PON with directly modulated (DM) VCSELs for femtocells application. MIMO-OFDM algorithms effectively compensate for impairments in the wireless link. Error-free signal demodulation of 64 subcarrier 4-QAM signals modulated at 198.5 Mb/s net data rate is achieved after fiber and 2 m indoor wireless transmission. We report BER of 7x10(-3) at the receiver for 16-QAM signals modulated at 397 Mb/s after 1 m of wireless transmission. Performance dependence on different wireless transmission path lengths, antenna separation, and number of subcarriers have been investigated.
