[Carcinoma of Bellini's ducts: apropos of a case]. / Carcinoma de ductos de Bellini: A propósito de un caso.

OBJECTIVE: To report an additional case of collecting duct carcinoma of the kidney, known as carcinoma of Bellini. METHODS/RESULTS: A 65-year-old male patient was admitted for left renal pain. An ultrasound scan showed a solid right renal mass. The patient underwent extended radical nephrectomy. Pathological analysis of the surgical specimen disclosed carcinoma of Bellini. The patient is asymptomatic 18 months postoperatively. CONCLUSIONS: Carcinoma of Bellini is an uncommon tumor type arising from the collecting duct cells and accounts for 0.5%-2% of all renal tumors.

Presentation of the finding of the echographic image of a torsion knot as a pathognomonic sign of spermatic cord torsion. Discussion of this finding as well as aspects related to imaging diagnosis of cord's torsion.

[Multifocal renal carcinoma]. / Multifocalidad del carcinoma renal.

OBJECTIVES: To analyze the incidence of multifocality in renal carcinoma. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted to determine the incidence of multifocality in renal carcinoma. We analyzed 50 surgical specimens from patients with renal carcinoma who had undergone radical nephrectomy at our institution between September, 1992 and December, 1994. RESULTS: 9 of the 50 specimens (18%) had more than one lesion in the same kidney. CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of multifocality in renal carcinoma has been reported to range from 6% to 30%, which implies that if conservative surgery is performed, the likelihood of tumor recurrence is not negligible. We believe therefore that radical surgery must be performed, except in those cases where conservative surgery is mandatory (solitary kidney, bilateral tumors).

[Treatment of ureteral lithiasis with lithoclast: analysis of our experience]. / Tratamiento de la litiasis ureteral con lithoclast: análisis de nuestra experiencia.

OBJECTIVES: To analyze the role and the results achieved with the Lithoclast in the treatment of distal ureteral calculi in the era of ESWL. METHODS: From March, 1994 to April, 1995, 41 patients with ureteral calculi were treated by ureteroscopy and direct stone fragmentation with the Lithoclast. RESULTS: 90% of the patients were stone-free one month after treatment; 3 patients in whom stone fragmentation could not be achieved required ESWL; one patient required open surgery for ureteral detachment. CONCLUSIONS: Ureteroscopy and stone fragmentation with the Lithoclast is a good, inexpensive mode of treatment of ureteral stones and is particularly indicated as the first mode of treatment in those centers, like ours, where ESWL is unavailable.

[Pure yolk sack tumor of the testis in adults: report of a case]. / Tumor testicular de saco vitelino (yolk sack) puro en el adulto: a próposito de un caso.

Report of one case of pure yolk sack testicular tumour in an adult patient. This was a stage I case which had been under observation for 3 years without further evidence of disease. Several aspects related with this type of germinal, non-seminomatous tumour of the testicle are commented upon.

[Adenomatoid tumor of the epididymis: report of a new case]. / Tumor adenomatoide de epidídimo: aportación de un nuevo caso.

We report an additional case of adenomatoid tumor of the epididymis, an uncommon benign intrascrotal tumor. The aspects concerning its embryological origin and the different hypotheses that have been put forward relative to its etiology are discussed.

[Internal urinary derivation using an antegrade approach: indications, technic and results]. / La derivación urinaria interna por vía anterógrada: indicaciones, técnica y resultados.

We report our experience in a group of patients with different pathological conditions and ureteral obstruction in whom placement of a double J stent had been attempted. Insertion of the stent beyond the site of obstruction by the retrograde technique could not be achieved and we therefore used the fluoroscopy-guided percutaneous approach. The indications, techniques and results are discussed.

[Urinary lithiasis composed of silica]. / Litiasis urinaria de silice.

We present a case of urinary silica (silicon dioxide) lithiasis in a patient without a background of medication use justifying the formation of this calculus. We review the literature on this type of lithiasis and comment on some aspects of the metabolism of silica connected with urolithiasis.

[Transitory amaurosis after transurethral resection of the prostate. Apropos of a case]. / Amaurosis transitoria post-R.T.U. de próstata. A propósito de un caso.

A case of transitory amaurosis after T.U.R is presented. This complication differs from the so-called Post-TUR Syndrome. Likewise, the possible physiopathological role of glycine as an inducer of blindness is discussed.
