RESUMO
An 80-year-old woman who had been diagnosed with an endobronchial carcinoid tumor visited our hospital for treatment with an endoscopic technique. However, a bronchoscopic examination at our hospital showed spontaneous regression of the tumor at the orifice of the right middle lobar bronchus. Chest computed tomography five months later revealed no local recurrence. This is the second report of an endobronchial carcinoid tumor vanishing after an endoscopic biopsy.

A 74-year-old male with abdominal pain was admitted to the emergency room in our hospital. The high value of serum amylase was shown in his blood test. The postcontrast computed tomography (CT) showed the huge retroperitoneal tumor with a thin-walled mass occupying most of the part of the right retroperitoneal space. The tumor spread into the soft tissues around the pancreas; as a result, the duodenum was compressed and the pancreas was displaced to the right side. The irregular pancreatic outline, obliterated peripancreatic fatty tissue and fluid in the left anterior pararenal space were revealed, so acute pancreatitis was diagnosed. The diagnostic biopsy of retroperitoneal tumor was done, and the pathological findings of retroperitoneal mass revealed dedifferentiated liposarcoma. The medical treatment against acute pancreatitis was performed firstly. After the patient recovered from that, the surgical resection of the tumor with the right kidney and right adrenal gland was completed successfully. The patient remained well, without any evidence of recurrence three months after surgery. However, the histology showed dedifferentiated liposarcoma; therefore, postoperative regular examination is necessary.

We report here a case of solitary atypical adenomatous hyperplasia (AAH). A 17-year-old non-smoker man developed spontaneous pneumothorax, and computed tomogram scanning of his chest revealed a ground-glass opacity measuring 5 x 5 mm in the right lung with no change in its size for the next 7 months. To exclude the possibility of pulmonary neoplasia, he underwent partial pulmonary resection. The postoperative pathologic diagnosis was AAH. The present case is very exceptional for AAH because of the patient's young age and non-association with pulmonary carcinoma. The postoperative 23-month follow-up was uneventful.

We report a case of epithelioid hemangioendothelioma arising from the left brachiocephalic vein in the anterior superior mediastinum of a 41-year-old man. The tumor was resected by local excision using a novel approach, the "hemi-plastron window" technique. The patient had an uneventful postoperative course and no recurrence of tumor 28 months after surgical treatment. We describe this surgical approach and discuss its advantage for cervicothoracic tumors.
