RESUMO

Uterine torsion is defined as a rotation of >45° around the long axis of the uterus. Uterine torsion is an uncommon event but is even rarer in non-gravid women, with only 25 cases reported in the last 20 years. Here, we report a case of uterine torsion associated with multiple pedunculated subserosal uterine leiomyomas in an 83-year-old woman. She presented at the hospital with lower abdominal pain, and a computed tomography scan revealed multiple uterine leiomyomas with calcifications. Subsequent magnetic resonance imaging raised suspicion for torsion of pedunculated subserosal uterine leiomyomas. Emergency laparotomy was performed, and the patient was diagnosed with uterine torsion with multiple pedunculated subserosal uterine leiomyomas. Total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy were performed. The patient's postoperative course was uneventful. Although difficult to diagnose due to its rarity, uterine torsion can be life-threatening and may cause infertility. Therefore, early diagnosis with imaging and surgical intervention are crucial to avoid serious complications.

RESUMO

Development of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) during pregnancy is rare, and the available data are limited to small retrospective reports. Currently, no guidelines exist for the management of AML during pregnancy in Japan. A 26-year-old female was diagnosed with AML at 19 weeks of gestation, received chemotherapy with daunorubicin and cytarabine, and achieved complete remission. Following the first consolidation therapy, she gave birth to a 1964-g female infant by cesarean section at 33 weeks of gestation. One week later, she was initiated on the second consolidation therapy; however, she developed a pelvic abscess during neutropenia. She underwent urgent surgery for open drainage and recovered soon after surgery. She has been in complete remission for eight months, and the daughter is healthy. Chemotherapy delivered after the second trimester rarely causes congenital malformations and may not require the termination of pregnancy. The clinical course of the present case suggests that chemotherapy can be performed safely and effectively in pregnant patients with AML after the trimester and babies.

RESUMO

This study developed a valid and reliable questionnaire measuring individual differences in reality-monitoring error experiences in everyday life. A 50-item preliminary questionnaire was constructed on the basis of the findings from a pilot diary study. In study 1, we administered the questionnaire to 316 undergraduates, along with a dissociative experience scale to examine criterion-referenced validity. Using factor analysis, we obtained the 32-item Reality-Monitoring Error Experience Questionnaire (RMEEQ). A significant positive correlation was found between scores on the RMEEQ and the dissociative experience scale, thereby which indicates the RMEEQ's criterion-referenced validity. In Study 2, we examined the test-retest reliability of the RMEEQ by administering it to 66 undergraduates on two occasions separated by three weeks. We found a significant test-retest correlation. Taken together, these results show that the RMEEQ is a valid and reliable measure of reality-monitoring error experiences in everyday life.

RESUMO

The present study described development of a Japanese version of the Emotional Skills and Competence Questionnaire and examined the relations of scores with those on Big Five scales of personality and self-esteem scales. The participants were 615 undergraduates. Factor analysis led to the shortened version of 24 items in three subscales. Although Cronbach alphas were low for the subscale, Manage and Regulate Emotion, values were satisfactory for the other two subscales, Express and Label Emotion and Perceive and Understand Emotion. Total scores of this version were positively correlated with score for self-esteem, Extraversion, and Openness but negatively correlated with scores on Neuroticism. This shorter Japanese versions shows suitable internal consistency and content validity, but other reliabilities and validities must be examined precisely.
