RESUMO

Room temperature lateral p+-i-n+light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with photonic crystals embedded in the i-region were fabricated on structures with Ge(Si) self-assembled islands and their optical properties were investigated. The use of preliminary amorphization and solid phase epitaxy of the implanted p+and n+contact regions made it possible to reduce the impurity activation temperature from 800 °Ð¡-1100 °Ð¡ to 600 °Ð¡, which corresponds to the growth temperature of Ge(Si) islands. This resulted in a significant reduction of the detrimental effect of the high-temperature annealing used for diode formation on the intensity and spectral position of the luminescence signal from the islands. It was shown that significant enhancement (more than an order of magnitude) of room temperature electroluminescence of Ge(Si) islands in the spectral range of 1.3-1.55µm can be achieved due to their interaction with different modes of the photonic crystals. The measured radiation power of the obtained diodes in the spectral range of 1.3-1.55µm exceeds 50 pW at a pump current of 8 mA, which is an order of magnitude higher than the previously achieved values for micro-LEDs with Ge(Si) nanoislands. The obtained results open up new possibilities for the realization of silicon-based light emitting devices operating at telecommunication wavelengths.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate systematically the published peer-reviewed literature and estimate the effect of therapy with Mexidol on the course and outcomes of ischemic stroke (II) in adult patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The meta-analysis included 11 studies reported In Russian (2 randomized controlled studies, 9 non-randomized, unblinded cohort studies). RESULTS: The results obtained indicate a positive effect of Mexidol on the course of II in the treated adult patients: we found statistically significant decrease in NIHSS scores on days 7-10 and 21-24 and in modified Rankin scale scores on days 5-7 and days 10-14 compared with the control group. The cumulative effect of the drug was shown: the between-group difference of the NIHSS scores increases with the course of observation time. The effect of Mexidol on indicators on the NIHSS scale is more significant, the greater the initial severity of the patient's neurological deficit. CONCLUSION: Heterogeneity in study designs and patient characteristics has resulted in significant statistical heterogeneity, and the evidence presented at the time of writing requires further examination as new data become available.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Up-to-date data and full characterization of circulating ASFV isolates play a crucial role in virus eradication and control in endemic regions and countries. The aim of the study was to evaluate and characterize the molecular and biological properties of the ASFV isolate ASF/Tatarstan 20/WB-12276, conduct phylogenetic analysis, and compare the results with isolates circulating in Europe and Asia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: For bioassay, eight heads of the Large White pigs weighing 15-20 kg/head were used. Detection of specific anti-ASFV antibodies by ELISA and immunoperoxidase method. Detection of ASFV genome was performed by qPCR. Isolation of ASF/Tatarstan 20/WB-12276 and determination of titer were performed in pig spleen cell culture. Sequencing was carried out by the Sanger method. RESULTS: The virus was characterized as highly virulent and capable of causing acute to subacute forms of ASF. Phylogenetic analysis revealed substitutions in the genome of the ASF/Tatarstan 20/WB-12276 isolate (IGR/I73R-I329L and I267L markers) that supported the clustering of the studied variant with isolates prevalent in most of Europe and Asia. CONCLUSION: For the first time, the molecular and biological properties of the ASF/Tatarstan 20/WB-12276 virus isolate taken from a wild boar shot on the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan were studied and analyzed.

RESUMO

Background: Understanding the connection between skin lesions and the pathology of internal organs and body systems that may have caused them is a prerequisite for successful cosmetic therapy. Aim: The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of a patient's somatic pathology on the manifestation of skin abnormalities. Materials and methods: The study was conducted according to a "case-control" design and was accompanied by a retrospective study of outpatient records of patients with the disease (group 1) and patients without it (control group). It is aimed at revealing the connection between a patient's skin manifestations and somatic pathology, as well as the effectiveness of therapeutic measures for the correction of such a condition. Results: Patients with acne and rosacea have a statistically signi-ficantly higher incidence of gastrointestinal diseases (in particular, gastritis caused by Helicobacter), diabetes mellitus, vitamin and micronutrient deficiencies, which significantly affects the effectiveness of their treatment and quality of life. In such chronic dermatoses, disruption of intestinal microbiocenosis can be considered as a co-morbid condition. Hyperpigmentation of patients' skin was caused by hormonal dysfunction (hyperestrogenism) and was accompanied by vitamin D deficiency. Conclusions: In cosmetology practice, therapy of dermatoses should be individualized and based on the analysis of the course of the disease, considering the diagnosed dysfunctions of certain organs or systems that cause skin pathological changes, as well as the preva-lence and severity of dermatosis, presence of comorbid background and mental disorders. A holistic approach in the therapy of dermatoses involving a dermatologist, a psychologist, a cosmetologist, and specialized clinicians will ensure their effective treatment.

RESUMO

The main task of targeted therapy is the selective destruction of cancer cells without affecting normal ones. For these purposes, small molecules and antibodies are used that target specific receptors and proteins or block signaling pathways in tumor cells. The natural phytoestrogens daidzein (Dz) and genistein (Gn) possess binding capacity to estrogen receptors (ER). Methionine γ-lyase (MGL) is promising in two strategies of antitumor therapy: for the elimination of l-methionine, which is necessary for the proliferation of tumor cells, and for the production of cytotoxic dialkyl thiosulfinates in situ. For delivery of MGL-loaded nanocapsules (nanoreactors) to the surface of cancer cells a technique for Dz or Gn incorporation into the shell of polyionic vesicles (PICsomes) was developed. The nanoreactors were characterized by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy. The enzyme retained its catalytic efficiency inside the decorated PICsomes. The binding of Dz/Gn-nanoreactors to the surface of ER + MCF7 breast adenocarcinoma cells was demonstrated. For the first time an influence of enzyme-loaded PICsomes and their individual components on embryos development was evaluated. The high rate of blastocysts formation (>80%) was observed for all tested components and nanoreactors themselves. A strong inhibitory effect on the early embryonic development of MGL-loaded PICsomes in the presence of S-alkyl-l-cysteine sulfoxide substrates was showed. This proves that the substrates can freely penetrate through the polymer shell of the polyionic vesicle and are cleaved by MGL to form cytotoxic thiosulfinates. The data obtained for phytoestrogens decorated PICsomes may be applied in enzyme therapy of malignant tumors.

RESUMO

The relationship between a variety's genotype, environmental conditions and phytopathogenic load are the key factors contributing to high yields that should be taken into account in selecting donors for resistance and high manifestation of valuable traits. The study of leaf rust resistance in 49 common wheat varieties was carried out in the field against the natural pathogen background and under laboratory conditions using single-pustule isolates with virulence to Lr9 and Lr24. It has been shown that the varieties carrying alien genes Lr6Agi2 (Tulaikovskaya 10) and Lr6Agi1 (Voevoda) were resistant to leaf rust infection both in the field and in the laboratory. Varieties KWS Buran, KWS Akvilon, KW 240-3-13, and Etyud producing crop yields from 417 to 514 g/m2 comparable to the best standard variety Sibirskaya 17 can be reasonably used as Lr24 resistance gene donors under West Siberian conditions. Omskaya 44 variety showing crop yield of 440g/m2 can be used as a donor for Lr19 and partially effective Lr26. Varieties Tuleevskaya and Altayskaya 110 with Lr9 in their genomes are recommended for the development of resistance gene-pyramided genotypes. The highest protein and gluten contents were observed in the CS2A/2M sample, while KWS Buran, Altayskaya 110, Volgouralskaya, and KWS Akvilon showed the lowest values. Varieties CS2A/2M, Tulaikovskaya 10, Pavon, and Tuleevskaya were ranked the highest in micro- (Cu, Mn, Zn, Fe) and macronutrient (Ca, Mg, K) contents among the common wheat samples from the collection, while the lowest values for most elements were observed in KWS Buran, Novosibirskaya 15, and Volgouralskaya. Winter varieties demonstrating leaf rust resistance against the infectious background typically carry adult plant resistance genes (Lr34, Lr12, and Lr13), particularly combined with the juvenile Lr26 gene. The presence of Lr41 in a winter type line (KS 93 U 62) allowed it to maintain resistance against a leaf rust pathogen clone kLr24, despite the presence of Lr24 in the genotype. Varieties Doka and Cheshskaya 17 may act as donors of resistance genes Lr26 + Lr34 and Lr9 + Lr12 + Lr13 + Lr34, as well as sources of dwarfing without losses in winter hardiness and yield under West Siberian conditions.

RESUMO

This paper describes two cases of congenital bilateral perisylvian syndrome (CBPS), a rare disorder of late neuronal migration, which is characterized by language delay, intellectual disorders, epilepsy and bilateral perisylvian polymicrogyria. Pseudobulbar paralysis and orofacial muscles dyspraxia causing drooling and feeding difficulties are common for patients with CBPS. Communicational problems lead to low self-esteem and social maladaptation. Literature data regarding correlation between polymicrogyria topography and speech disorders and articulation impairment severity are presented. The results demonstrate the association of diffuse spreading of bilateral polymicrogyria and more severe speech disorders comparing to mild speech disorders in patients with more local polymicrogyria. Known etiology factors of this syndrome are bilateral cerebral hypoperfusion, brain damage while neuronal migration period, postmigrational vascular insults and gene mutations. Syndrome can be inherited in autosome dominant and X-linked manner. Speech apraxia with normal impressive speech, refractory epileptic seizures and status dysraphicus must be red flags for a physician regarding this syndrome. Overnight video-EEG monitoring and brain MRI confirm a thesis that this syndrome is underdiagnosed in everyday clinical practice.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study the pathogenetic and clinical significance of factors of hypoxic brain damage and inflammatory mediators in the development of stroke, to improve the diagnosis using laboratory markers of brain damage and inflammation in patients with acute cerebrovascular accident. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We examined 55 people with stroke of the ischemic type at the age of 74 (67; 80) years, the comparison group consisted of 25 volunteers at the age of 65.0 (62.0; 66.5) years. Depending on the outcome of ischemic stroke, patients were assigned to the discharged group or to the deceased group. Blood serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) S100b protein, glial fibrillar acidic protein and interleukin-6 (IL-6); blood serum neurospecific enolase, and cortisol and C-reactive protein (CRP) were determined. Clinical blood test and assessment of fibrinogen content were performed on days 1, 3 and 10 of stroke. RESULTS: There is an increase in the levels of markers of brain tissue damage and systemic inflammation in the blood and CSF in response to cerebral ischemia that reflects the synergy of these pathological processes in patients with stroke, their association with the severity of stroke and its outcome. CONCLUSION: The results indicate that the postischemic release of neurospecific proteins, an increase in the content of IL-6, CRP, and cortisol make it possible to additionally characterize the severity of stroke and the body's response to damage, and predict the outcome of the disease.

RESUMO

Serine 339 of the active site of Citrobacter freundii methionine γ-lyase (MGL) is a conserved amino acid in most pyridoxal 5'-phosphate-dependent enzymes of the cystathionine ß-lyase subclass, to which MGL belongs. The reaction mechanism of the MGL-catalyzed γ-elimination reaction is poorly explored. We replaced serine 339 with alanine using site-directed mutagenesis. The replacement of serine 339 with alanine led to a significant (by two orders of magnitude) decrease in efficiency in the catalysis of the γ- and ß-elimination reactions by the mutant form of the enzyme. The exchange rates of the C-α- and C-ß-protons in the amino acids in complexes consisting of the enzyme and competitive inhibitors decreased by one-two orders of magnitude. The spectral characteristics of the mutant form indicated that the replacement did not lead to significant changes in the conformation and tautomerism of MGL internal aldimine. We crystallized the holoenzyme and determined its spatial structure at 1.7 E resolution. The replacement of serine 339 with alanine did not affect the overall course of the polypeptide chain of the MGL subunit and the tetrameric enzyme structure. An analysis of the obtained kinetic and spectral data, as well as the known spatial structures of C. freundii MGL, indicates that serine 339 is necessary for efficient catalysis of γ- and ß-elimination reactions at the stage of C-α-proton abstraction from the external aldimine, the γ-elimination reaction at the stages of coenzyme C4'-atom protonation, and C-ß-proton abstraction from a ketimine intermediate.

RESUMO

Thiosulfinates in situ formed by "pharmacological pair" C115H methionine γ-lyase/S-(allyl/alkyl)-l-cysteine sulfoxides possess cytotoxic activity against various malignant cell lines. To investigate in vivo antitumor activity of thiosulfinates generated directly at the surface of tumor cells, a chemical conjugate between Clostridium novyi C115H methionine γ-lyase (C115H MGL) and isoflavone daidzein was prepared. The binding of conjugate (C115H-Dz) to various breast cancer cell lines was demonstrated, as well as its cytotoxicity in the presence of S-(allyl/alkyl)-l-cysteine sulfoxides. The most promising among thiosulfinates was dipropyl thiosulfinate (IC50 < 0.53 µM). The pharmacokinetic parameters of C115H MGL and C115H-Dz were obtained. Plasma half-lives of the enzyme and conjugated enzyme were 4.4 and 7.2 h, respectively. In vivo antitumor effect of pharmacological pairs on SKBR-3 xenografts was demonstrated. Treatment of tumor-bearing mice with a pair of C115H-Dz/propiin inhibited tumor growth by 85%.

RESUMO

Withdrawal of radiotherapy in patients with brain tumors under four years decreases chance for cure. AutoHSCT in a series of pilot studies demonstrated a potential to improve outcomes in these patients. The study included 50 patients with median age of 39 months (7-53). Medulloblastoma (n = 28, 56%), ETMR (n = 9, 18%) and other histological types (n = 13, 26%) were most commonly diagnosed. Forty two patients (84%) received tandem autoHSCT by HIT-MED protocol, and single autoHSCT was performed in eight children (16%). Adjuvant radiotherapy was administered in 25 (50%) children and treatment of relapse included radiotherapy in 6 (12%). Median follow-up was 39.6 months (6-121). Long-term CIR was 37%, and TRM - 6%. Five-year OS was 71% in medulloblastoma, 37% in ETMR and in other tumors - 51% (p = 0.07). Irradiation-free OS at 5 years for children with medulloblastoma was 24%. For the whole cohort of CNS tumors, independently of histology, OS and PFS at five years were 60% and 46%, respectively Young children with medulloblastoma, following tandem autoHSCT, demonstrate OS comparable to older children. Patients with other histological types demonstrate suboptimal long-term survival rates after autoHSCT and one should assess whether these patients benefit from autoHSCT.

RESUMO

The methionine dependence is a well known phenomenon in metabolism of cancer cells. Methionine γ-lyase (EC 4.4.1.11, MGL) catalyzes the γ-elimination reaction of L-methionine and thus could effectively inhibit the growth of malignant cells. Recently we have demonstrated that the mutant form of the enzyme C115H MGL can be used as a component of the pharmacological pair enzyme/S-(allyl/alkyl)-L-cysteine sulfoxides to yield thiosulfinates in situ. Thiosulfinates were shown to be toxic to various cancer cell lines. Therefore the application of the enzyme in enzyme pro-drug therapy may be promising. The conjugates of MGL and C115H MGL with polysialic acid were obtained and their kinetic and pharmacokinetic parameters were determined. The formation of polysialic shell around the enzyme was confirmed by atomic force microscopy. The half-life of conjugated enzymes increased 3-6 times compared to the native enzyme. The cytotoxic effect of conjugated MGL against methionine dependent cancer cell lines was increased two times compared to the values for the native enzymes. The anticancer efficiency of thiosulfinates produced by pharmacological pair C115H MGL/S-(allyl/alkyl)-L-cysteine sulfoxides was demonstrated in vitro. The results indicate that the conjugates of MGL with polysialic acid could be new antitumor drugs.

RESUMO

Moscow in modern borders is the largest metropolitan area in the country with a fairly high and unevenly distributed population density. This predetermines the need to address environmental regulation of urbanization in order to create the most comfortable living conditions for the population. Health care and the maintenance of health of all age groups are the leading role in the list of the most important tasks to ensure the social well-being of citizens. In the bowels of the Moscow region there are natural therapeutic resources: low-mineralized (M 3-5 g/l) sulfate sodium-magnesium-calcium drinking mineral water and chloride sodium bromine brine. The article presents the characteristics of the natural therapeutic resources of the Moscow region, the area of their therapeutic use, justified the possibility of wider use based on the available scientific data on the effect on the body of these waters and their analogues. All this provides an opportunity to achieve the main goal of medical resortology - the use of mineral water as a means of therapy, rehabilitation and prevention of most existing human diseases.

RESUMO

Diffuse nodular lymphoid hyperplasia is a rare gastrointestinal disease that can be diagnosed by multiple nodules in the small intestine, large intestine, or both. Immunodeficiency and infections are the common situations that lead to the diffusion of nodular lymphoid hyperplasia. For instance, Giardia lamblia and Helicobacter pylori are the major pathogens leading to this disorder. Diffuse nodular lymphoid hyperplasia leads to allergic reactions, immunodeficiency, and autoimmune diseases. Imunofan-RDKVYR Peptide-is a potential agent in regenerative medicine. The present study aimed to investigate morphological features of the aggregated lymphoid nodules of the small intestine after the Imunofan (IM) administration following Cyclophosphamide-induced immunosuppression. In total, 72 Wistar male rats were randomly divided into two groups (n=36). Group I was considered the control group, and group II was subjected to intramuscular injections (needle 21 G) of0.2 ml of normal saline following the Cyclophosphamide-induced immunosuppression on the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, and 10th days of the experiment. The animals in group II were injected with Cyclophosphamide at a dose of 200 mg/kg bodyweight to induce immunosuppression. The animals in the experimental group (n=36) were subjected to intramuscular injections (needle 21 G) of the 0.2 ml IM at a dose of 0.7µg/kg body weight on the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th days of the experiment. The results of the study indicated that on the 7th day in group II, the length and width of the aggregated lymphoid nodules increased, as well as the height and width of the lymphoid nodules and internodular zones as structural components of the lymphoid formations in the small intestine. In group I, by the 30th day of the experiment, the linear dimensions of the aggregated lymphoid nodules exceeded, but to a lesser extent than on the 7th day of the experiment which explains the ability of IM to neutralize the effects of Cyclophosphamide. It should also be noted that the IM was performed to regenerate damaged cells which helped maintain the population of lymphocytes in the limb and led to an increase in linear dimensions (length and width) not only between the joint but also in the lymph nodes.

RESUMO

The soft and delicate tissue of the brain, which is the center of our coordination, is protected by its surrounding layers. The disruption of these layers results in complicated situations and serious health problems. The brain has three protective layers of bone or skull tissue, the blood tissue layer, and finally the meningeal layer. The layer of blood tissue contains the blood vessels that are located between the skull and the meningeal membranes. If germs or foreign matter enter the fluid through the blood vessels under any circumstances and cause infection, the bones that protect the meninges will break and cause tissue damage. The present study aimed to assess the histological and immunohistochemical characteristics of the brain of rats that underwent induced acute purulent pneumococcal meningitis after antibiotic therapy with Ceftriaxone. A number of 20 white adult male Wistar rats were assigned to three groups. The first group (n=5) regarded as the control were injected with a saline solution into the subarachnoid space in an equivalent amount. The second and third groups of rats (n=5 and 10, respectively) were infected with acute purulent meningitis by the injection of 10 µl of Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumonia) suspension into the subarachnoid space of the brain using a 23-G needle. The various areas of the brains of rats after meningitis induced by S. pneumoniae were examined after the treatment with Ceftriaxone. The S. pneumoniae culture was injected into the subarachnoid space in the area of the rhomboid fossa. Treatment started 18 h after the injection. On day 10, a repeated puncture was performed with the analysis of cerebrospinal fluid in order to confirm the absence of meningitis; thereafter, the animals were taken out of the experiment. No signs of meningitis were found on histological examination. Mild perivascular and pericellular focal edema were revealed with signs of overload of the lymphatic system in the brain and focal ischemic changes in neurons. The investigation of expression with caspase-3 revealed a positive reaction of individual neurons. A positive reaction with antibodies to NeuN and Doublecortin was detected in most neurons; moreover, Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)-positive astrocytes and their processes were visualized in all layers of the brain substance. The reaction with neuron-specific enolase (NSE), microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP-2), CD 31, and CD 34 was negative. Typical structure and pictures pointed to an intact brain and purulent meningitis in the first and second groups. The microscopic image and the changes revealed during immunohistochemistry by dual corticosteroid antibodies and neuronal nuclear protein were characterized by predominantly cytoplasmic and perinuclear reactions, respectively. Some neurons are positive for caspase-3 and are related to changes in the characteristic of premature aging.

RESUMO

The article presents the results of a psychological study of patients with principal disabling pathologies that form the main structure of disability in the Russian Federation due to malignant neoplasms: diseases of the circulatory system; diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue; diseases of the endocrine system and metabolic disorders (diabetes mellitus of the first and second types). The article presents the results of studying a sample of patients by various psychological parameters, provides statistical comparisons of psychological characteristics of patients depending on the specifics of their social situation, in which patients either claim to be disabled and are under conditions of medical and social expertise, implying the possibility of changing social status, or patients of the same nosological categories, who do not claim to be disabled and who are rehabilitating on the basis of their own personal and socio-environmental resources outside of the "disabled" status. Psychological techniques are presented, the specificity of emotional and personal parameters is analyzed and characterized, including personality frustration and experience of the significance of the disease in the spheres of life, self-esteem indicators, identification characteristics, strategies that provide rehabilitation adherence, which characterize the activity of patients in the compared groups in many ways. The conceptual position that defines the activity of patients as «rehabilitative¼ has been substantiated. The results of the study revealed statistically significant differences in psychological indicators in the compared groups of patients rehabilitating outside the "disabled" status and patients claiming to be disabled. The indicators obtained in the study indicate that the personal self-regulation of patients rehabilitating outside the «disabled¼ status qualitatively differs from the self-regulation of patients claiming disability, in terms of stable self-esteem and belief in the ability to realize life in significant areas of social functioning, in the ability of perspective planning of the future, in active self-realization of social roles, active participation in interpersonal, leisure, professional, household and other spheres, high responsibility for one's health, against the background of stable emotional perception of the current social situation of the disease.

RESUMO

Acute and chronic steroid-refractory graft-versus-host disease (srGVHD) is a life-threatening complication of allogeneic stem cell transplantation. There are a number of reports on case series describing efficacy of ruxolitinib in both acute and chronic srGVHD. We conducted a prospective study (NCT02997280) in 75 patients with srGVHD (32 acute, 43 chronic, 41 adults, and 34 children). Patients with chronic GVHD had severe disease in 83% of cases, and acute GVHD patients had grade III-IV disease in 66% of cases. The overall response rate (ORR) was 75% (95% CI 57-89%) in acute GVHD and 81% (95% CI 67-92%) in chronic. Overall survival was 59% (95% CI 49-74%) in acute group and 85% (95% CI 70-93%). The major risk factors for lower survival were grade III-IV gastrointestinal involvement (29% vs 93%, p = 0.0001) in acute form and high disease risk score in chronic (65% vs 90%, p = 0.038). Toxicity was predominantly hematologic with 79% and 44% of grade III-IV neutropenia in acute and chronic groups, respectively. There was no difference between adults and children in terms of ORR (p = 0.31, p = 0.35), survival (p = 0.44, p = 0.12) and toxicity (p > 0.93). The study demonstrated that ruxolitinib is an effective option in acute and chronic srGVHD and can be used both in adults and children.

RESUMO

AIM: To evaluate and to compare the intensity of the inflammatory response to zinc-oxide-eugenol based filling material in rabbit's soft and bone tissue. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study employed 20 chinchilla rabbits. The artificial defects were formed in jaw and in soft tissues and filled by zinc-oxide-eugenol based filling material. After 14 or 30 days the animals were euthanized, and tissue samples were analyzed with microscope. RESULTS: Histological analysis revealed that zinc-oxide-eugenol based filling material support inflammation reaction in the tissue, but bone tissue showed statistically lower inflammatory response in comparison to soft tissue (p<0,05). CONCLUSION: Extrusion of zinc-oxide-eugenol based filling material from root canal is undesirable as it leads to complex unfavorable tissue reaction for its elimination, more pronounced in soft tissues.

RESUMO

Russia has almost all hydrochemical types of underground mineral waters; however, unlike the well-known and popular resorts in the world, they are used very limitedly. In addition to their high medicinal value, mineral waters, when properly marketed, is a natural product that is comparable, and, in many cases, superior in price to that of similar volumes of high-octane gasoline. In addition to the characteristics of the chemical and gas composition, some underground mineral waters in their native state have an elevated temperature and are thermal and hyperthermal. Low-mineralized nitrogen thermae are one of the large groups of mineral waters; they are common in the areas of young tectonic faults in the earth's crust, which frame the mountainous areas. The deposits of thermae within the blocky and folded-blocky structures are fractured water-pressure systems; the thermal waters in the sedimentary and volcanic-sedimentary rocks saturate the reservoir or fissure-interstitial aquifers and are typical artesian basins. The successful development of health resort business in Russia should be, first of all, based on the extensive use of natural therapeutic factors. As clearly confirmed by the experience with spa treatment in both Russia and world practice, accumulated data from researches, thermal mineral waters determine the possibility of creating large spa centers that provide high economic efficiency.
