[The excision of branchial parapharyngeal cysts by transbuccal or l cervical approach]. / Excision par voie transbuccale ou cervicale des kystes branchiaux parapharyngés.

Branchial cysts located in the parapharyngeal space are extremely rare; only seven cases were described in the literature between 1927 and today. In Quebec City, two cases were operated on during the last 3 years. Often, many antibiotic and surgical treatments have been inefficiently used, before getting to the correct diagnosis and final curative treatment. We stress the importance of a detailed evaluation of the lesion and of a noninvasive surgery. Magnetic resonance imaging is the primary imaging modality for parapharyngeal space masses, and surgical excision using the transoral approach is advantageous in selected cases.

[Recurrent nasal polyposis and vidian neurectomy - preliminary report]. / Polypose nasale récidivante et neurectomie vidienne - rapport préliminaire.

A short anatomical and physiological review of the vidian nerve is presented. The authors have described the surgical technique they use which is somewhat similar to the one described by Nomura. Eight cases are presented which had been unsuccessfully treated by multiple radical nasal polypectomies. The results are comparable to those published in the literature and it appears that vidian neurectomy has merit in the treatment of recurrent nasal polyposis but must be used in association with radical polypectomy.

Neurilemmoma of the parapharyngeal space. Report of three cases and review of the literature.

The clinical pre-operative diagnosis of parapharyngeal neurilemmoma is frequently missed. Bimanual palpation of the mass is the most rewarding clinical investigation. Intra-oral incisional biopsy is to be prescribed in case of benign tumor. Treatment is achieved by total excision by external approach. Recurrence rates in benign lesions are low but high with malignant tumors. Three cases of parapharyngeal neurilemmoma are presented.
