RESUMO

The removal of dyes from the aquatic ecosystem is necessary being a major threat to life. For enhanced remediation of methylene blue (MB) dye, a new ternary biopolymer-geopolymer-surfactant composite adsorbent is synthesized by combining phosphoric acid geopolymer (PAGP), calcium alginate (Alg), and sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). During the synthesis of the composites, PAGP and SLS were mixed with the alginate matrix, producing porous hybrid beads. The PAGP-SLS-alginate (PSA) beads prepared were characterized using different analytical tools, i.e., scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry (FTIR), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), surface area and porosimetery (SAP), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). To ascertain the ideal conditions for the adsorption process, a batch reactor procedure was used to investigate the effects of several parameters on MB adsorption, including pH (2, 4, 6, 8, 10), PSA adsorbent dosage (0.06-0.12 g), MB concentration (50-500 mg/L), contact time (15 to 300 min), and temperature (25, 35, and 45 °C). The SEM investigation indicated that ~ 1860 µm-sized PSA beads with 6-8 µm voids are generated. Based on XRD, FTIR, and SAP examinations, the material is amorphous, having numerous functional groups and an average pore size of 6.42 nm. Variation of pH has a little effect on the adsorption process, and the pH of 7.44 was found to be the pHpzc of the PSA beads. According to the findings of the batch study, equilibrium adsorption was obtained in 270-300 min, showing that the adsorption process was moderately slow-moving and effective. The dye adsorption linearly increased with initial dye concentration over concentration range of 50-500 mg/L and reciprocally decreased with rise in temperature. 0.06 g adsorbent dose, 25 °C, pH10, and 270 min were found to be the better conditions for adsorption experiments. Langmuir isotherm fitted well compared to Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin-Radushkevich (DR) isotherm models on the experimental data, and the maximum adsorption capacity(qmax) calculated was 1666.6 mg. g-1. Pseudo-second-order (PSO) kinetics model and multi steps (two) intra particle diffusion (IPD) model fitted well on the adsorption kinetics data. The system's entropy, Gibbs free energy, and change in enthalpy were measured and found to be -109.171 J. mol-1. K-1, - 8.198 to - 6.014 kJ. mol-1, and - 40.747 kJ. mol-1. Thermodynamics study revealed that adsorption process is exothermic, energetically favorable and resulting in the decrease in randomness. Chemisorption is found to be the dominant mechanism as confirmed by pH effect, Langmuir isotherm, PSO kinetics, IPD model, and thermodynamics parameters. PSA beads were successfully regenerated using ethanol in a course of 120 min and re-used for five times. To sum up, the PSA adsorbent's impressive adsorption capability of 1666.66 mg/g highlights its potential as a successful solution for methylene blue removal. The results of this study add to the expanding corpus of information on sophisticated adsorption materials and demonstrate PSA's potential for real-world uses in wastewater treatment and environmental clean-up.

Treatment of giant cell arteritis (GCA) aims initially to prevent acute visual loss, and subsequently to optimise long-term quality of life. Initial prevention of acute visual loss in GCA is well-standardised with high-dose glucocorticoid therapy but in the longer term optimising quality of life requires tailoring of treatment to the individual. The licensing of the IL-6 receptor inhibitor tocilizumab combined with advances in vascular imaging have resulted in many changes to diagnostic and therapeutic practice. Firstly, GCA is a systemic disease that may involve multiple vascular territories and present in diverse ways. Broadening of the "spectrum" of what is called GCA has been crystallised in the 2022 GCA classification criteria. Secondly, the vascular inflammation of GCA frequently co-exists with the extracapsular musculoskeletal inflammation of the related disease, polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). Thirdly, GCA care must often be delivered across multiple specialities and healthcare organisations requiring effective interprofessional communication. Fourthly, both GCA and PMR may follow a chronic or multiphasic disease course; long-term management must be tailored to the individual patient's needs. In this article we focus on some areas of current rheumatology practice that ophthalmologists need to be aware of, including comprehensive assessment of extra-ocular symptoms, physical signs and laboratory markers; advanced imaging techniques; and implications for multi-speciality collaboration.

Fossil fuels are considered vital natural energy resources on the Earth, and sulfur is a natural component present in them. The combustion of fossil fuels releases a large amount of sulfur in the form of SO x in the atmosphere. SO x is the major cause of environmental problems, mainly air pollution. The demand for fuels with ultra-low sulfur is growing rapidly. In this aspect, microorganisms are proven extremely effective in removing sulfur through a process known as biodesulfurization. A major part of sulfur in fossil fuels (coal and oil) is present in thiophenic structures such as dibenzothiophene (DBT) and substituted DBTs. In this study, the identification and characterization of DBT desulfurizing bacteria (Chryseobacterium sp. IS, Gordonia sp. 4N, Mycolicibacterium sp. J2, and Rhodococcus sp. J16) based on their specific biochemical constituents were conducted using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). By differentiating DBT desulfurizing bacteria, researchers can gain insights into their unique characteristics, thus leading to improved biodesulfurization strategies. SERS was used to differentiate all these species based on their biochemical differences and different SERS vibrational bands, thus emerging as a potential technique. Moreover, multivariate data analysis techniques such as principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) were employed to differentiate these DBT desulfurizing bacteria on the basis of their characteristic SERS spectral signals. For all these isolates, the accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity are above 90%, and an AUC (area under the curve) value of close to 1 was achieved for all PLS-DA models.

The groundwater resources in different areas of Pakistan are heading towards depletion along with the deterioration of quality due to over-abstraction and urbanization. The main focus of this study is to map the current hydrostratigraphical and hydraulic conditions of the late Quaternary aquifers in the central part of Thal Doab of Punjab Plains. To achieve the target, a comprehensive approach was employed combining geophysical investigations using electrical resistivity surveys (ERS) and physiochemical analysis of groundwater specimens collected from the study area. Careful calibration of resistivity models was performed by comparing them with lithologs to ensure their accuracy. The current groundwater conditions were assessed through thirty vertical electrical soundings (VES) using the Schlumberger electrode configuration up to 300m of AB/2. The interpreted results revealed the presence of four to six geo-electric sublayers comprising the intermixing layers of clay, silt, sand, gravel, and kankar inclusions. These layers exhibited very low (<20 Ω-m) to very high (>230 Ω-m) resistivity zones at various depth intervals. The developed 2D/3D models of aquifer systems identify the promising areas of good/fresh quality groundwater in the regions characterized by medium to very high resistivity mainly within the sand with gravel layers. However, lower resistivity values indicate the presence of marginally suitable/fair and saline/brackish groundwater showing the existence of fine sediments such as clays/silts. Additionally, twenty groundwater samples were collected to assess various parameters including pH, TDS, arsenic, fluoride, iron, nitrate, and nitrite. The spatial distribution of these parameters was visualized using 2D maps. The suitability of the groundwater for drinking consumption was evaluated in accordance with WHO guidelines.

Background Chronic liver disease (CLD) is associated with a variety of consequences, including thrombocytopenia and esophageal varices, which significantly impact patient prognosis and management. Thrombocytopenia, frequently observed in patients with CLD, may correlate with the severity of esophageal varices, a critical complication leading to variceal bleeding. Methodology A cross-sectional study was carried out in the Department of Medicine and Gastroenterology, Pak Emirates Military Hospital, Rawalpindi, from October 2021 to March 2022. The study enrolled 94 patients, aged 18-70 years, diagnosed with CLD, regardless of the cause. These patients were categorized into four groups based on platelet count: <50,000/uL, 50,000-99,999/uL, 100,000-150,000/uL, and >150,000/uL. Pearson's correlation was utilized to evaluate the association between the severity of thrombocytopenia and the grading of esophageal varices. Results A total of 94 patients were enrolled in the study, with 53 (56.4%) males and 41 (43.6%) females. The mean age of patients was 51.06 ±11.09 years. Seventeen (18.1%) had no esophageal varices, 16 (17.0%) were diagnosed with Grade I varices, 35 (37.2%) with Grade II varices, and 26 (27.7%) had Grade III varices. Most patients without varices had a platelet count above 150 x 103 (17, 18.1%). Conversely, most patients with Grade III varices (19, 20.2%) had platelet counts below 50 x 103. Patients with no esophageal varices had a mean platelet count of 173.70 ± 37.48 x 103. Among the patients, those with Grade III esophageal varices exhibited the lowest mean platelet count, recorded at 78.54 ± 24.14 x 103. These findings indicate a statistically significant difference in mean platelet counts across the various esophageal varices grades (P = 0.000). There was an inverse correlation of platelet count with the grading of esophageal varices (r = -0.645, P < 0.000). Conclusions A negative correlation was observed between the platelet count and the grading of esophageal varices, implying that as the severity of esophageal varices increased, the platelet counts proportionally decreased.

This study evaluates factors influencing pregnancy rates per artificial insemination (P/AI) and pregnancy loss in Lohi ewes undergoing laparoscopic AI with frozen-thawed semen under sub-tropical conditions. Data from three experiments comprising ewes (n = 358) of mixed parity (nulliparous; NP and parous; P), various body condition score (BCS) and assigned to long-term (LTP, 11 days) and short-term (STP, 5 days) oestrus synchronization regimen across high breeding season (HBS) and low breeding season (LBS) were analysed. Laparoscopic insemination was conducted 54 h post-sponge removal. Pregnancy diagnosis and loss were evaluated on days 35 and 90 post-insemination via ultrasonography. Results showed parity significantly influenced P/AI, with nulliparous ewes achieving higher pregnancy ratios than parous ewes (p = .001). BCS significantly influenced P/AI (p < .05), with a quadratic relationship observed between BCS and season (BCS*BCS*Season; p = .07). Progestin treatment did not significantly influence the ratio of pregnant ewes (p = .07). Pregnancy losses were significantly higher during LBS than HBS (p < .05), irrespective of progestin treatment. In conclusion, parity and BCS significantly influenced P/AI, with BCS demonstrating a quadratic association with season. Ewes bred during LBS experienced higher pregnancy losses than HBS, irrespective of progestin treatment.

The prevalence of cyberbullying has reached an alarming rate, affecting approximately 54% of teenagers who experience various forms of cyberbullying, including offensive hate speech, threats, and racism. This research introduces a comprehensive dataset and system for cyberbullying detection in Urdu tweets, leveraging a spectrum of machine learning approaches including traditional models and advanced deep learning techniques. The objectives of this study are threefold. Firstly, a dataset consisting of 12,500 annotated tweets in Urdu is created, and it is made publicly available to the research community. Secondly, annotation guidelines for Urdu text with appropriate labels for cyberbullying detection are developed. Finally, a series of experiments is conducted to assess the performance of machine learning and deep learning techniques in detecting cyberbullying. The results indicate that fastText deep learning models outperform other models in cyberbullying detection. This study demonstrates its efficacy in effectively detecting and classifying cyberbullying incidents in Urdu tweets, contributing to the broader effort of creating a safer digital environment.

Bacterial resistance towards antibiotics is a significant challenge for public health, and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has great potential to be a promising technique to provide detailed information about the effect of antibiotics against biofilms. SERS is employed to check the antibacterial potential of a lab synthesized drug ([bis(1,3-dipentyl-1H-imidazol-2(3H)-ylidene)silver(i)] bromide) against Bacillus subtilis and to analyze various SERS spectral features of unexposed and exposed Bacillus strains by observing biochemical changes in DNA, protein, lipid and carbohydrate contents induced by the lab synthesized imidazole derivative. Further, PCA and PLS-DA are employed to differentiate the SERS features. PCA was employed to differentiate the biochemical contents of unexposed and exposed Bacillus strains in the form of clusters of their representative SERS spectra and is also helpful in the pairwise comparison of two spectral data sets. PLS-DA provides authentic information to discriminate different unexposed and exposed Bacillus strains with 91% specificity, 93% sensitivity and 97% accuracy. SERS can be employed to characterize the complex and heterogeneous system of biofilms and to check the changes in spectral features of Bacillus strains by exposure to the lab synthesized imidazole derivative.

Bacterial wilt (BW) of tomatoes, caused by Ralstonia solanacearum, is a devastating disease that results in large annual yield losses worldwide. Management of BW of tomatoes is difficult due to the soil-borne nature of the pathogen. One of the best ways to mitigate the losses is through breeding for disease resistance. Moreover, plant height (PH) is a crucial element related to plant architecture, which determines nutrient management and mechanical harvesting in tomatoes. An intraspecific F2 segregating population (NC 11212) of tomatoes was developed by crossing NC 84173 (tall, BW susceptible) × CLN1466EA (short, BW resistant). We performed quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping using single nucleotide polymorphic (SNP) markers and the NC 11212 F2 segregating population. The QTL analysis for BW resistance revealed a total of three QTLs on chromosomes 1, 2, and 3, explaining phenotypic variation (R2) ranging from 3.6% to 14.9%, whereas the QTL analysis for PH also detected three QTLs on chromosomes 1, 8, and 11, explaining R2 ranging from 7.1% to 11%. This work thus provides information to improve BW resistance and plant architecture-related traits in tomatoes.

In this study, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) technique, along with principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least-squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), is used as a simple, quick, and cost-effective analysis method for identifying biochemical changes occurring due to induced mutations in the Aspergillus niger fungus strain. The goal of this study is to identify the biochemical changes in the mutated fungal cells (cell mass) as compared to the control/nonmutated cells. Furthermore, multivariate data analysis tools, including PCA and PLS-DA, are used to further confirm the differentiating SERS spectral features among fungal samples. The mutations are caused in A. niger by the clustered regularly interspaced palindromic repeat CRISPR-Cas9 genomic editing method to improve their biotechnological potential for the production of cellulase enzyme. SERS was employed to detect the changes in the cells of mutated A. niger fungal strains, including one mutant producing low levels of an enzyme and another mutant producing high levels of the enzyme as a result of mutation as compared with an unmutated fungal strain as a control sample. The distinctive features of SERS corresponding to nucleic acids and proteins appear at 546, 622, 655, 738, 802, 835, 959, 1025, 1157, 1245, 1331, 1398, and 1469 cm-1. Furthermore, PLS-DA is used to confirm the 89% accuracy, 87.7% precision, 87% sensitivity, and 88.9% specificity of this method, and the value of the area under the curve (AUROC) is 0.67. It has been shown that surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy is an effective method for identifying and differentiating biochemical changes in genome-modified fungal samples.

Objectives: Keeping in view the economic and veterinary public health importance of brucellosis, this research was conducted to determine its seroprevalence and associated risk determinants in small ruminants in district Khanewal, Southern Punjab, Pakistan. Materials and Methods: Two-stage cluster sampling technique was used for sampling, and the sample size was calculated using C-survey 2.0. Accordingly, sera samples (n = 392) were collected from small ruminants in the study area from October 2022 to July 2023. All the samples were tested for the presence of anti-Brucella antibodies by Rose Bengal Plate Test (RBPT), followed by confirmation of all the samples using an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit (ID.vet®, France; sensitivity and specificity=100%, each). Results: The seropositivity rate of brucellosis was 7.14% [n = 28/392; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 4.87%-10.12%] by RBPT, whereas the results of ELISA showed an overall seroprevalence rate of 7.40% (n = 29/392; 95% CI = 5.11%-10.37%) in the study population. Univariate analysis of risk factors revealed that abortion history (AH), retained fetal membranes (RFMs), repeat breeding, flock size (FS), educational status of farmers (ESFs), awareness about brucellosis (AB), and farm hygiene had a significant association with the seroprevalence of brucellosis (p < 0.05). The multivariate analysis using a binary logistic regression model revealed that variables including tehsil, FS, AH, RFM, ESF, AB, and farming system were significant factors (p < 0.05) associated with brucellosis in the target population. Conclusion: Brucellosis is prevalent in small ruminants in Khanewal, Pakistan. The disease burden can be reduced by improving the reproductive health of animals, farm hygiene, and farmers' awareness about the diseases. Further studies are needed on a larger scale to devise stringent disease control strategies to avoid losses associated with brucellosis at regional, national, and global levels.

Biochar is a promising solution to alleviate the negative impacts of salinity stress on agricultural production. Biochar derived from food waste effect was investigated on three plant species, Medicago sativa, Amaranthus caudatus, and Zea mays, under saline environments. The results showed that biochar improved significantly the height by 30%, fresh weight of shoot by 35% and root by 45% of all three species compared to control (saline soil without biochar adding), as well as enhanced their photosynthetic pigments and enzyme activities in soil. This positive effect varied significantly between the 3 plants highlighting the importance of the plant-biochar interactions. Thus, the application of biochar is a promising solution to enhance the growth, root morphology, and physiological characteristics of plants under salt-induced stress.

The paradigm of the Next Generation cellular network (6G) and beyond is machine-type communications (MTCs), where numerous Internet of Things (IoT) devices operate autonomously without human intervention over wireless channels. IoT's autonomous and energy-intensive characteristics highlight effective energy efficiency (EEE) as a crucial key performance indicator (KPI) of 6G. However, there is a lack of investigation on the EEE of random arrival traffic, which is the underlying platform for MTCs. In this work, we explore the distinct characteristics of F-composite fading channels, which specify the combined impact of multipath fading and shadowing. Furthermore, we evaluate the EEE over such fading under a finite blocklength regime and QoS constraints where IoT applications generate constant and sporadic traffic. We consider a point-to-point buffer-aided communication system model, where (1) an uplink transmission under a finite blocklength regime is examined; (2) we make realistic assumptions regarding the perfect channel state information (CSI) available at the receiver, and the channel is characterized by the F-composite fading model; and (3) due to its effectiveness and tractability, application data are found to have an average arrival rate calculated using Markovian sources models. To this end, we derive an exact closed-form expression for outage probability and the effective rate, which provides an accurate approximation for our analysis. Moreover, we determine the arrival and required service rates that satisfy the QoS constraints by applying effective bandwidth and capacity theories. The EEE is shown to be quasiconcave, with a trade-off between the transmit power and the rate for maximising the EEE. Measuring the impact of transmission power or rate individually is quite complex, but this complexity is further intensified when both variables are considered simultaneously. Thus, we formulate power allocation (PA) and rate allocation (RA) optimisation problems individually and jointly to maximise the EEE under a QoS constraint and solve such a problem numerically through a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Finally, we examine the EEE performance in the context of line-of-sight and shadowing parameters.

Live foods such as phytoplankton and zooplankton are essential food sources in aquaculture. Due to their small size, they are suitable for newly hatched larvae. Artemia and rotifer are commonly used live feeds in aquaculture; each feed has a limited dietary value, which is unsuitable for all cultured species. Whereas, copepod and cladocerans species exhibit favorable characteristics that make them viable candidates as sources of essential nutrients for hatchery operations. Due to their jerking movements, it stimulates the feeding response of fish larvae, and their various sizes make them suitable for any fish and crustacean. Even though Artemia is the best live feed due to its proficient nutritional quality, the cost is very expensive, which is about half of the production cost. A recent study suggests the use of amphipods and mysids as alternative live feeds in aquaculture. High nutritional value is present in amphipods and mysids, especially proteins, lipids, and essential fatty acids that are required by fish larvae during early development. Amphipods and mysids are considered abundant in the aquatic ecosystem and have been used by researchers in water toxicity studies. However, the culture of amphipods and mysids has been poorly studied. There is only a small-scale culture under laboratory conditions for scientific research that has been performed. Thus, further research is required to find a way to improve the mass culture of amphipods and mysids that can benefit the aquaculture industry. This review article is intended to provide the available information on amphipods and mysids, including reproductive biology, culture method, nutritional value, feed enhancement, and the importance of them as potential live feed in aquaculture. This article is useful as a guideline for researchers, hatchery operators, and farmers.

The present lifestyle, dietary patterns, psychological pressure, environmental factors, and the widespread exploitation of processed substances in food production and farming have collectively contributed to a substantial expediting in the development of various health problems. Globally, researchers have been seeking natural pharmaceutical substances with the potential to be employed in treating lifestyle-related diseases or delaying their onset. Fenugreek seeds have gained significant attention in various fields, including health, nutrition, and cutting-edge nanotechnology applications, due to their versatile qualities. The current investigation offers a comprehensive discussion of the nutritional composition and therapeutic potential of fenugreek seeds, with an emphasis on their plentiful reservoir of bioactive compounds. This seed demonstrates promising medicinal potential in addressing a wide range of health issues. Significantly, these findings indicate noteworthy properties, such as antidiabetic, antioxidant, anti-obesity, hypocholesterolemic, anticancer, and cardioprotective effects. Moreover, the components of fenugreek seeds are important in the development of a multitude of foods, which is the reason why they are used extensively in the area of food research. In addition to their nutritional value, their exploration of nanotechnology reveals a promising domain, utilizing the distinctive characteristics of seeds for many purposes, such as nanoparticle synthesis and oil for edible films and nanoemulsions. This review article focuses on a comprehensive analysis of fenugreek seeds, examining their wide-ranging applications in the fields of health, nutrition, food, and nanotechnology.

The development of information technology (IT) has an essential role in education today. Most teachers in Indonesia utilize the traditional method rather than the advancement of IT. Through digital media, the social science learning process becomes fascinating, improves students' skills, and is more engaging. However, implementing Information Technology-based Learning (ITBL) takes a lot of work. It comes with tremendous challenges that should be addressed carefully. Many previous studies explain the feasibility of the media, its effectiveness, and the advantages of using IT-based learning media. However, they still need to present the challenges in IT-based social science learning, even more so in the Indonesian context. Given the vast landscape of ITBL in Indonesia, a case study approach could entail extensive fieldwork, data collection, and data analysis. Therefore, A literature review can be carried out with less resource investment, making it a pragmatic choice for researchers with limited time and resources. This research aims to discover the challenges of students, teachers, and educational institutions in IT-based social science learning in the Indonesian context. The search protocol is based on the P.R.I.S.M.A. (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis). This systematic literature review results were obtained from 315 articles discussing the challenges of IT-based social science learning published from 2018 until 2022. This research reveals that most challenges students face are internal/self-challenges. For instance, there needs to be more self-regulation and necessary digital literation. On the other hand, teachers' most significant challenge is their lack of skills and experience in implementing IT-based learning media and their inability to operate complex software, even if they have poor digital literacy. The need for facilities and technological training presents challenges for institutions. The need to procure IT infrastructure is due to the difficulty of reaching certain areas (the terrain) in Indonesia. The challenges encountered by students, teachers, and educational institutions are not exclusive to any particular group and extend beyond their respective domains. Addressing the multi-dimensional challenges would be more efficient. The poor digital literacy challenges occurred in other nations, too. This particular challenge can be solved through instructional training. Moreover, the Indonesian government offers numerous free digital training programs for individuals or institutions called "Digitalent."

Pakistan has a significant occurrence of both consanguineous marriages and intimate partner violence (IPV), which may be interlinked. The practice of consanguineous marriages could potentially influence women to rationalize and accept instances of IPV. Such attitudes perpetuate a culture of violence against women, creating difficulties for victims to reject or escape from it. Pakistan has high prevalence rate of consanguineous marriages and IPV. However, no research has been done to explain the difference in acceptance of IPV between women in consanguineous and non-consanguineous marriages. This study used Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey data and applied association tests, logistic regression, and the Fairlie decomposition analysis. The Fairlie decomposition helps us identify the relative contribution of different socioeconomic factors in the inequalities in IPV between the two types of marriages. Five dimensions of wife-beating justification are used as outcome variables. Age, education, and empowerment of women, husband education, woman witness parental violence, region, place of residence, and household wealth status are used as independent variables. The logistic regression results indicated that women in consanguineous marriages of younger age and who witnessed parental violence are more likely to justify wife-beating than those who belong to wealthy households and enjoy more empowerment. Compared to the Punjab province, women residing in Sindh and Baluchistan are less likely and in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province are more likely to justify wife-beating. The Fairlie decomposition analysis shows that household wealth status, woman education, and empowerment are the main contributors in explaining the gap between the wife-beating justification of the two groups. The IPV gap can be reduced up to 77% if the distribution of women in different wealth quantiles of the consanguineous marriage group is identical to the non-consanguineous marriage group. Furthermore, woman education level is the second highest contributor. Consanguineous marriages are a prevalent cultural practice in Pakistan and are associated with several negative health and social outcomes. Addressing this issue requires a sustained and comprehensive effort by the government, civil society, and international partners, with a particular focus on women from poor households with less education.

The mucus is a defensive barrier for different drug-loaded systems. To overcome this obstacle, the crucial factor is the surface charge. Due to mucus negative charge behavior; it was revealed that negatively charged formulations can move across mucus, whereas positively charged nanoformulations could not diffuse via mucus due to interactions. However, cellular intake of negatively charged nanoformulations to the epithelium by endocytosis is less prominent as compared to positively charged carriers. Self-emulsifying drug delivery systems (SEDDS) improve the drug permeability of drugs, especially which have poor oral drug solubility. Moreover, SEDDS have the ability to reduce the degradation of drugs in the GI tract. Currently, drug carrier systems that can shift zeta potential from negative to positive were developed. The benefits of inducing zeta potential changing approach are that negatively charged nanoformulations permeate quickly across the mucus and surface charges reversed to positive at epithelium surface to increase cellular uptake. Among various systems of drug delivery, zeta potential changing SEDDS seem to signify a promising approach as they can promptly diffuse over mucus due to their smaller size and shape distortion ability. Due to such findings, mucus permeation and drug diffusion may improve by the mixture of the zeta potential changing approach and SEDDS.
