RESUMO

The cytopathic action (CPA) of peripheral blood lymphocytes from 148 patients with different clinical forms of brucellosis has been studied in the culture of allogenic fibroblasts. The CPA of lymphocytes has been found to be observed more frequently and to a greater extent in chronic brucellosis than in acute and subacute brucellosis. No relationship between the CPA of lymphocytes and the severity of the disease or the allergic transformation of the body has been revealed. The CPA of lymphocytes has been found to coincide with the clinical manifestation and the duration of the course of brucellosis. The pathogenetic significance of the CPA of lymphocytes in brucellosis has been noted.

RESUMO

In chronic brucellosis patients receiving levamisole and placebo the dynamics of quantitative and functional characteristics of cell-mediated and humoral immunity have been studied. The immunomodulating effect of levamisole, manifested only in the process of treatment by a rise in the number of circulating lymphoid cells, their functional capacity, a decrease in the disproportion of immunoregulatory cells and the amount of circulating immune complexes, has been established. The positive dynamics of immunological characteristics have been found to improve both immediate and remote results of the clinical effectiveness of levamisole.

RESUMO

The content of L-lymphocytes in patients with different clinical forms of brucellosis has been studied. The degree of a decrease in the level of these cells has been found to depend on the activity of the infectious process and its clinical manifestations in the form of polyarthritis. The severity of the course of acute and subacute brucellosis has been found to produce no essential influence on the level of L-cells. These cells are supposed to participate in the processes of pathogenesis and the elimination of the pathogen in brucellosis.

RESUMO

The dynamics of the content of the main lymphocyte populations and their functional capacity has been studied in patients with acute and subacute brucellosis, receiving levamisole and placebo. The study has shown the immunomodulating influence of levamisole on both the number of all circulating lymphocyte populations under study and their functional activity, which influenced the immediate and remote results of treatment.

RESUMO

The dynamics of the main characteristics of humoral immunity in patients with subacute brucellosis, receiving levamisole and placebo, has been studied. Levamisole produced an immunomodulating effect manifested by an increase in the number of B-lymphocytes and a drop in the level of circulating immune complexes. Levamisole did not essentially influence the content of serum immunoglobulins and specific antibodies.

RESUMO

The content of T mu- and T gamma-lymphocytes and their ratio in patients having subacute and chronic brucellosis with different foci of infection have been studied. The relationship between the decrease in the levels of T mu- and T gamma-cells and the clinical form of the disease and its clinical manifestations, such as polyarthritis, has been established. Manifestations of disturbances in the T mu-cell/T gamma-cell ratio were more pronounced in patients with subacute brucellosis in whom the lesions of the osteoarticular system prevailed. The detected changes in the counts of immunoregulatory cells in brucellosis are assumed to be of pathogenetic importance.

RESUMO

A study was made of the comparative efficacy of levamisole (a controlled method) and vaccinotherapy in combined treatment of 97 patients with chronic brucellosis. The advantage of levamisole curative effect in the period of exacerbation and in a follow-up period was obvious. No advantage of vaccinotherapy in chronic brucellosis was noted. An immunomodulating effect of levamisole was manifested in an increase in the amount of circulating lymphocyte subpopulations. No similar changes of immunological indices in vaccinotherapy were noted.

RESUMO

The levels of circulating T mu- and T gamma-lymphocytes in brucellosis patients have been studied in relation to the clinical form of the disease, the severity of the process and the allergic transformation of the body. A decrease in the content of lymphocytes, affecting mainly T mu-cells and less commonly T gamma-cells, as well as a change in their ratio has been revealed. The level of this decrease depended on the clinical form of brucellosis, the severity of the course of acute and subacute brucellosis, the phase of chronic brucellosis and the allergic transformation of the body. The disproportion of immunoregulating cells in brucellosis, revealed in this study, is supposed to be of pathogenetic importance.

RESUMO

The main lymphocyte subpopulations (T-, B-, T mu-, T gamma, and L-lymphocytes), serum immunoglobulins (A, M, G), and specific antibodies have been analyzed at different periods of the development of acute brucellosis. The heterogeneous pattern of changes in the main characteristics of both humoral and cell-mediated immunity has been revealed. A definite interrelation of cell-mediated and humoral reactions in the immunological process in brucellosis has been established.

RESUMO

The clinical efficacy of levamisole was compared to that of vaccine in a controlled trial of a combined treatment performed in 311 patients with acute and subacute brucellosis. As compared with vaccine, levamisole appeared effective in the treatment of active forms of brucellosis both during the control of the active process and later in convalescence. The use of levamisole permitted reducing the percentage of the chronic forms of the disease. When administered for active forms of brucellosis vaccine did not turn superior to levamisole.

RESUMO

A significant decrease in the absolute content of T-lymphocytes and an increase in the percentage of macrophages were revealed in patients with acute and chronic brucellosis, persons vaccinated with live brucellosis vaccine and in persons with a positive reaction to brucellin. At the peak of acute brucellosis infection and at an early period following immunization with live brucellosis vaccine a high percentage of cases showing the presence of T-lymphocytes sensitized to brucellosis antigen was observed.

RESUMO

Simple radial immunodiffusion method was applied to the study of serum immunoglobulin A, M, and G content in healthy persons (donors), depending on age, sex and blood group reference by the ABO system. Mean serum immunoglobulin level in (IU/ml) in healthy persons was found to be as follows: A--123.8 +/- 3.4, M--143.3 +/- 3.8, and G--139.9 +/- 2.8. There were revealed higher indices of immunoglobulins of class G, and particularly of M in women; no statistically significant differences were found in the serum immunoglobulins content depending on age and blood reference, at the same time their connection with sex (in women) was detected.
