[Impairments of co2-gas-exchange during the provocative inhalation in children with bronchial asthma (author's transl)]. / Die Störungen des CO2-Gasaustausches während inhalativer Provokation bei Kindern mit Asthma bronchiale.

Report on the investigation of CO2-Gas-exchange during provocative inhalation tests in children suffering from bronchial asthma. An increased difference in CO2-gradients by increase of PVCO2 and decrease of PACO2 was found. The values of Pco2a are unchanged. The capnography seems to be useful in continious monitoring of obstructive ventilation disorders during provocative inhalation tests, especially in children.

Action of atropine on histamine-induced bronchoconstriction in asthmatic children. A pharmacocapnographic study.

In their earlier methodological model studies the authors confirmed the protective effect of atropine in inhalative acetylcholine provocation. In the present work the role of parasympatholysis is investigated in histamine-induced bronchospasm by the method. It was found that a protective effect was exerted in histamine provocation repeated 20 minutes after subcutaneous administration of atropine sulphate in a dose of 0.01 mg/kg. The protective effect proved independent of the individual histamine sensitivities of the patients. The initial value of the CO2 curve prior to provocation was not improved.

Experiments on placental circulation and transplacental transfer in exteriorized foetuses in hypoxia and after asphyxia in guinea pigs.

Experiments were carried out on near term pregnant guinea pigs. Cesarean section was performed and by exteriorization of the foetuses the placental stage of labor was simulated. In one group of foetuses, chosen at random, we induced hypoxia, and in an another series of experiments asphyxia, each group with its own control. The results of acid-base values, experimental antipyrine transplacental transfer studies and the survival rate of foetuses, showed that it is advantageous for the newborn animal if we preserve the placental function in such conditions immediately post partum. Further study is necessary to determine to what degree and under what conditions our experimental observations are applicable to human perinatology.

Altered response in vitro of the human umbilical artery to sera of neonates with respiratory distress syndrome and other hypoxic conditions.

A study was made of the reaction of the human umbilical artery and the isolated rabbit auricular artery to protein-free ultrafiltrates of normal and hypoxic sera originating from neonates suffering from RDS or other acute metabolic disturbances. While a normal serum ultrafiltrate caused an enhanced contraction of the umbilical artery, hypoxic sera exerted a weaker pressor activity. At the same time, on the rabbit's isolated auricular artery the hypoxic sera exhibited a higher pressor activity. The phenomenon is in agreement with the clinical observation that spontaneous closure of the umbilical vessels is delayed in the case of fetal hypoxia.
