RESUMO

The myelodepression at therapy for solid malignancies is considered as a mediating element of common antineoplastic activity on the basis of ability of stem cells of hemapoietic system to participate in regeneration of the various tissues of the body, including tumor. The equivalence of the therapeutic benefit mediated by both mild myelodepression due to total/subtotal radiation exposure and conventional chemotherapy with cytotoxic drugs is argued.

RESUMO

Choice of therapy for inoperable lung cancer is determined by extension of local involvement, concomitant pathology and frequent complications. It is shown that such specific and effective means as irradiation of the whole mediastinum can abort constriction of the superior vena cava quickly and reliably. In case of recurrence, a second radiotherapy may be indicated; the same may be done with such complications as pleuritis and tumor decay.

RESUMO

The study was concerned with efficacy and tolerability of radiochemotherapy for inoperable non-small cell lung cancer using fractionated single focal dose of radiation in conjunction with vinorelbine or 5-fluorouracil. The treatment proved moderately toxic and was frequently followed by complete regression and survival lasting 12-36 months. Also, it was cost-effective due to shorter courses of radiotherapy.

RESUMO

Among 42 patients with primary lung cancer, 11 refused, 20 admitted while 11 admitted partially the fact of their disease. Later on, compensatory mental dysadaptation in the first group was followed by inadequate attitude to the disease. The growing awareness of the disease involved neurotic symptom enhancement which was an adequate response under the circumstances. On the other hand, adequate self-assessment and finding ways of self-expression promoted psychological adaptation. The better the patient was informed of his or her condition, the more their sense of responsibility for it was stimulated.

RESUMO

Six schemes for therapy of patients with inoperable lung cancer have been developed, used in the treatment of more than 300 patients. Static irradiation of irregularly-shaped fields was carried out involving into primary irradiation volume the primary focus and all sites of regional metastases. The irradiation was fractionated; total focal dose (true or equivalent) absorbed from such fields was 50 Gy. Local focal dose was up to 60-70 Gy. The total exposure was realized as a total radiation exposure or polychemotherapy. A 60% one-year and 15% three-year survival was attained in treatment of patients with epidermoid differentiated cancer (scheme No. 1), this indicating the adeguacy of the chosen method for the treatment of this patient population. Strict adherence to indications for such therapy when selecting patients for the treatment helped attain a positive effect in 90% of patients.

RESUMO

The paper is concerned with physicotechnical and dosimetric support of technology of therapeutic whole-body irradiation on a serial gamma apparatus ROKUS, with which a majority of radiological institutions in the USSR are fit out. Technology consists of the following procedures: patient positioning with relation to a source with a horizontal axis of radiation. Correction of dose distribution by means of a three-element compensator taking into account patient's constitutional peculiarities and preradiation preparation data; double irradiation in the bilateral regimen in the supine position.

RESUMO

Thermographic results were analyzed in 40 lung cancer patients and in 2 patients with acute pneumonia. The diagnosis and spreading of disease were established during x-ray, bronchological and morphological investigations. Normal temperature distribution was observed on the skin surface of lung cancer patients. The appearance of local hyperthermia did not depend on a stage of lung cancer. The sensitivity of chromo-thermography in establishing lung changes in tumors was 80% but thermosemiotics was not specific for cancer only. Similar thermosemiotics was noted in acute pneumonia. Comparative assessment of temperature distribution on the chest surface and perfusion scintigraphy in 24 patients made it possible to give correct interpretation of various temperature drop values in hyperthermia.

RESUMO

His experience with the treatment of patients with breast cancer enabled the author to show great efficiency of combined methods and to recommend wider application of X-ray therapy in the preoperative period especially as concentrated irradiation.

RESUMO

121 patients with different affections of the thyroid were examined by the method of color thermography. In patients with signs of hyperthyroidism or inflammation of the thyroid a local skin hyperthermia of the anterior jugular surface was observed. In the presence of euthyroid or hypothyroid struma skin temperature changes are either entirely absent, or there is a moderately pronounced local hypothermia. Cancer of the thyroid, as a rule, causes a more pronounced local skin hypothermia on the anterior jugular aspect.
