RESUMO

Effect of IgG from rabbits, immunized with deoxyribonucleoprotein and with nuclear matrix of rat adrenal glands, on activities of cytochrome c oxidase, glucose-6-phosphate (G6PD) and lactate (LDH) dehydrogenases was studied in rat adrenal glands, liver and spleen tissues, myocardial and skeletal muscles. After administration of the antibodies and deoxynucleoprotein activation of the oxidative enzymes was tissue-dependent. Activities of cytochrome c oxidase and G6PD were distinctly increased in adrenal glands. In other tissues studied the enzymatic activity was not either increased (spleen, myocardium, skeletal muscle) or mediated through adrenal glands (liver tissue). The tissue-dependent activation of the oxidative enzymes, which accompanied the steroidogenic effect of the immunoglobulins studied, was considered as a result of interaction between the antibodies and tissue-specific antigen determinants in adrenal gland chromatin.

RESUMO

Nonionic detergents of polyhydroxyethylene series were shown to catalyze the reduction of trinitrotetrazolium blue in reactions involving phenazinemethosulfate and other reducing agents. An approach of dehydrogenase fractions to the micells of nonionic detergents during enzyme gel electrophoresis led to an increase in colour intensity of individual isoenzymes and to redistribution of the isoenzyme spectrum as a result of catalytic effect of the detergents.

RESUMO

The activity of hexokinase, dehydrogenases of pentose cycle, total lactate dehydrogenase, and cytochrome-C-oxidase level was determined in the aorta of rats with hyperthyroidism caused by the intraperitoneal administration of L-thyroxin. In the administration of hormone doses approaching the physiological ones there was an increase in the activity of cytochrome-C-oxidase and a tendency to the increase of 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase. Elevation of the activity of all the enzymes under study, excluding lactate dehydrogenase, and in increase of the amount of extractable protein occurred in the administration of moderate thyroxin doses. An increase of hexokinase and particularly of cytochrome-C-oxidase activity was revealed in hyperthyroidism with phenomena of thyrotoxicosis. The activity of the rest of the enzymes approached control. The data obtained are discussed from the point of view of the role played by thyroid hormones in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.

RESUMO

Age alterations in the activity of several key enzymes of glucose oxidative breakdown (hexokinase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase and cytochrome c oxidase) were studied in extracts from rabbit aorta. The hexokinase activity was measured also in mitochondrial fraction. The activity of all the enzymes studied in rabbit aorta (calculated either per 1 g of the tissue or per 1 mg of proteins) was the highest at the age from 1-2 weeks to 1 month. The minimal activity was observed in adult animals, which were 1-2 years old, In aorta of 3,5-4 years old rabbits an increase (per 1 g of the tissue) in the activity of the enzymes was observed.
