Background Intracapsular femoral neck fractures account for a majority of hip fractures. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of valgus osteotomy as a primary treatment for intracapsular femoral neck fractures in adult patients aged 15-60 years, assessing its impact on functional outcomes and fracture union. Methodology A retrospective clinical analysis was conducted at the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Osmania Government General Hospital, Hyderabad, India, focusing on patients treated with primary intertrochanteric valgus osteotomy for intracapsular femoral neck fractures. The study reviewed medical charts and radiographs of six patients aged between 15 and 60 years, diagnosed with recent isolated intracapsular femoral neck fractures, presenting between May 2019 and October 2021. The intervention involved Pauwels' intertrochanteric valgus osteotomy with various fixation methods. Main outcome measures included radiographic union, functional ability assessed by the Harris Hip Score, and evaluation for complications. Results All six patients achieved radiographic union at fracture and osteotomy sites, totaling a 100% success rate. The average follow-up duration was 14.8 months (12-20 months), with an average time of 5.1 months (2.5-6 months) from surgery to radiographic union. One patient experienced union with retroversion, while another developed avascular necrosis (AVN) by the study's conclusion. No instances of hardware failure or non-union were observed. The average Harris Hip Score obtained during the most recent clinical follow-up was 84, ranging from 69 to 94. All six patients regained independent walking ability without any support by the end of the follow-up period. Conclusion The combination of primary Pauwels' intertrochanteric valgus osteotomy with fixed-angle plating proves to be a highly effective method for addressing recent intracapsular femoral neck fractures, resulting in a 100% success rate in achieving union among the patient cohort.

Bilateral humerus fractures as a result of birth trauma are a rare occurrence in neonatal care, necessitating special consideration due to their potential long-term implications. Birth-related injuries involving neonatal skeletal structures, especially fractures of the humerus, require special attention and a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and management. Here, we present the case of a newborn female child who experienced bilateral humerus fractures due to birth trauma. The subsequent management involved the application of splints to immobilize the affected arms, a standard practice in the treatment of fractures.

Hip bipolar hemiarthroplasty, a widely employed surgical intervention for managing hip fractures and degenerative hip diseases, can pose significant challenges when revisions become necessary due to complications such as implant loosening, instability, or breakage. This case report presents the intricate management of a 58-year-old male who presented with worsening left hip pain a decade after undergoing hip replacement surgery. Despite a thorough preoperative assessment ruling out infection, intraoperative complexities included the necessity for extended trochanteric osteotomy (ETO) to address a broken stem and associated metallosis. Successful revision surgery was meticulously executed, incorporating techniques for implant removal, femoral shaft augmentation, and postoperative rehabilitation. The ensuing discussion explores the multifaceted aspects of failed hemiarthroplasty, emphasizing the critical roles of surgical precision, judicious patient selection, and ongoing research endeavors aimed at refining surgical strategies to optimize patient outcomes. This case underscores the imperative of a multidisciplinary approach and the continued imperative for advancements in surgical methodologies for effectively managing revision hip arthroplasty cases, thus enhancing the quality of patient care in this intricate clinical domain.

Glomus tumors are rare neoplasms originating from the glomus body that predominantly manifest in the subungual region of the digits and are distinguished by severe pain and a heightened sensitivity to cold. Bony erosion associated with glomus tumors is a rare phenomenon. Here, we present a unique case of a glomus tumor situated on the ventromedial aspect of the little finger, leading to notable bony erosion. A 42-year-old female from India presented with a chief complaint of severe and localized pain in the ventromedial region of her right little finger, exacerbated by exposure to cold temperatures. Radiological investigations demonstrated focal bone erosion at the site of the tumor. Surgical excision of the lesion was performed. A fish-mouth incision was made on the ventromedial aspect of the little finger, which was extended to the tip of the finger. The nail bed was kept intact. The tumor was excised using small forceps. The patient experienced complete resolution of symptoms postoperatively and reported no recurrence during the follow-up period. This case report highlights the exceptional presentation of a glomus tumor causing bony erosion on the ventromedial aspect of the little finger, a manifestation rarely encountered in clinical practice. Furthermore, this case contributes to the limited body of literature on this combination of uncommon clinical entities, shedding light on its diagnosis and management.

PURPOSE: Our study examined the association between outpatient postsurgical analgesic prescription and risk of insufficiently managed pain characterized by pain-associated hospital admission and emergency room (ER) visit. METHODS: Eligible individuals were children 1-17 years of age who filled an incident analgesic following an outpatient surgery during 2013-2018. Pain-associated hospital admission or ER visit were measured within 30 days following the outpatient surgical procedure. A hierarchical multivariable logistic regression model with patients nested under prescribers was fitted to test the association between incident analgesic prescription and risk of having pain-associated hospital admission or ER visit. RESULTS: Of 14 277 children meeting the inclusion criteria, 6224 (43.6%) received an incident opioid and 8053 (56.4%) received an incident non-opioid analgesic prescription respectively. There were a total of 523 (3.7%) children undergoing surgical procedures that had pain-related hospital admissions or ER visits with 5.1% initiated on non-opioid analgesics and 1.8% on opioid analgesics. The multilevel model indicated that initial opioid analgesic recipients were 32% less likely of having a pain-associated hospital admission or ER visit [aOR: 0.68 (95% CI: 0.3-0.8)]. CONCLUSION: Majority of postsurgical patients do not require additional pain management strategies. In the 3.7% of patients requiring additional pain management strategies, those initiated on non-opioid analgesics are more likely to have a pain-associated hospital admission or ER visit compared with their opioid recipient counterparts.

Background: Enhanced recovery protocols (ERPs) have been shown to improve the outcomes of gastrointestinal cancer care, leading to reduced morbidity of gastrointestinal treatment and reduced delays in systemic therapy. ERP implementation has also previously shown a reduction in length of stay (LOS) without changing the readmission rate; however, the economic cost associated with these measures has not yet been quantified. The aim of this study was to evaluate the economic costs of ERP implementation for colorectal cancer at a community hospital. Methods: The Diagnostic Related Group (DRG) codes were used to assess costs associated with the hospitalizations of cases in the ERP versus non-ERP groups. The American Hospital Association (AHA) Annual Survey from 1999 to 2015 was used to provide the expenses per day for inpatient hospitalization in the United States. Postoperative LOS, average healthcare costs, and postoperative complications between ERP-protocol and non-ERP protocol groups were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and independent t-tests. Results: The AHA survey estimated that $2,265 was incurred per day for non-profit hospitals in Florida and $2,346 was incurred per day for the United States. For all DRG codes, the ERP-participating group was associated with a shorter LOS and reduced health care costs. LOS-associated cost was compared between ERP and non-ERP groups: for DRG 329, the total savings was $162,118.8 (n = 12 non-ERP versus n = 8 ERP, P = 4.39 × 10-18); for DRG 330, $314,552.64 (n = 36 non-ERP versus n = 24 ERP, P = 2.72 × 10-22); and for DRG 331, $89,302.73 (n = 11 non-ERP versus n = 23 for ERP, P = 4.19 × 10-20). Conclusions: The implementation of an ERP protocol for colorectal cancer was associated with significantly reduced costs in a community hospital.

OBJECTIVE: Our study examined the change in repeat opioid analgesic prescription trends in children and adolescents experiencing acute pain between 2013 and 2018. METHODS: Eligible individuals were children and adolescents between 1 and 17 years of age enrolled in a Medicaid Managed Care plan and filled an incident opioid analgesic prescription from 2013 to 2018. A repeat opioid prescription was defined as receiving a subsequent opioid prescription within 30 days from the end of the incident opioid prescription. A generalized linear regression analysis was conducted to examine changes in repeat opioid analgesic dispensing over time at quarterly intervals from January 1, 2013, to December 31, 2018. RESULTS: The cohort comprised 17,086 children and adolescents receiving an incident opioid analgesic. Of these, 1780 (10.4%) filled a repeat opioid analgesic prescription. There was a significant decline in the repeat opioid analgesic trend from 11.5% in Q1 2013 to 9.6% in Q4 2018. Stratified analyses by age, sex, and race and ethnicity in a sub-cohort of patients undergoing surgical procedures showed that a significant decline in repeat opioid utilization over time has been observed in all racial/ethnic groups stratified by age and sex, with the most significant decline found in non-Hispanic White children and Hispanic adolescents. At the end of the 6-year follow-up, the racial and ethnic variations in repeat opioid utilization associated with surgical procedures had significantly reduced in children yet persisted among adolescents. CONCLUSIONS: Approximately 10% of incident pediatric opioid analgesic recipients received a repeat opioid prescription. There has been a moderate but steady decline (∼7% per quarter) in repeat opioid analgesic utilization between 2013 and 2018.

Herein, we report an efficient methodology for the reduction of esters, carbonates, and anhydrides to alcohols using in situ generated aminodiborane from iodine and ammonia borane. This methodology also finds use for the transformation of esters to iodides by varying the stoichiometry of reagents. The protocol has broad substrate scope for transformation of esters to alcohols and iodides with excellent yields. The method is also useful for synthesizing pharmaceutically and industrially important compounds such as a Cinacalcet precursor, a Streptoindole analogue, and 1,4-pentanediol. Control studies and DFT calculations carried out to study the reduction mechanism of esters using aminodiborane indicate that a dioxaborinamine intermediate is formed during the reaction.

Herein, we report a new air-stable phosphine-free 8-AQ (8-aminoquinoline) based Mn(I) carbonyl complex as the catalyst for the C(α)-alkylation of oxindoles with alcohols. The Mn complex [(8-AQ)Mn(CO)3 Br] works effectively as a catalyst for the α-alkylation of oxindoles by both secondary as well as primary alcohols. The procedure has been used for the synthesis of pharmaceutically important recently developed oxindoles such as 3-(4-methoxybenzyl)indolin-2-one, 3-(4-(dimethylamino)benzyl)indolin-2-one, 3-(4-(dimethylamino)phenyl)-5-fluoroindolin-2-one and 3-(benzo[d][1,3]dioxol-5-ylmethyl)indolin-2-one, which are found to be effective in preventing specific types of cell death in neurodegenerative disorders. Control experiments have been carried out to investigate the reaction mechanism and the crucial role of metal-ligand cooperation via -NH2 moiety during catalysis.

OBJECTIVE: Our study evaluated the association between initial opioid prescription duration and receipt of a repeat opioid prescription in children. METHODS: Eligible individuals were children between 1 and 17 years of age who enrolled in a Medicaid Managed Care plan and filled an incident opioid prescription during 2013 to 2018. An incident prescription was defined as receipt of an opioid analgesic without a prior use for 12 months. A repeat opioid prescription was defined as receipt of a subsequent opioid prescription within 30 days since the end of incident opioid prescription. A hierarchical multivariable logistic regression model was fitted to test the association between incident opioid prescription duration and the likelihood of receiving a repeat prescription. RESULTS: The cohort consisted of 17,086 children receiving an incident opioid prescription in which 6272 (36.7%) received 1 to 3 days' supply, 8442 (49.4%) received 4 to 7 days' supply, 1434 (8.4%) received 8 to 10 days' supply, and 938 (5.5%) received >10 days' supply. Of these incident opioid recipients, 1780 (10.4%) filled a repeat opioid prescription. The multilevel model results indicated that, children receiving 4 to 7 days' supply (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]: 0.98 {0.9-1.1}), 8 to 10 days' supply (aOR: 1.03 [0.8-1.3]), and >10 days' supply (aOR: 0.85 [0.7-1.1]) had comparable likelihoods of receiving a repeat prescription as those receiving 1 to 3 days' supply. DISCUSSION: Nearly 10% of children who filled an opioid prescription for acute pain received a repeat prescription. Initial prescription duration was not associated with the risk of receiving a repeat prescription.

Clines are observable gradients that reflect continuous change in biological traits of species across geographical ranges. Clinal gradients could vary at geographic scales (latitude and altitude). Since clinal variations represent active genomic responses at the population level they (clines) provide an immense power to address questions related to climatic change. With the fast pace of climate change i.e. warming, populations are also likely to exhibit rapid responses; at both the phenotypic and genotypic levels. We seek to understand how clinal variation could be used to anticipate climatic responses using Drosophila, a pervasively used inter-disciplinary model system owing to its molecular repertoire. The genomic information coupled with the phenotypic variation greatly facilitates our understanding of the Drosophilidae response to climate change. We discuss traits associated with clinal variation at the phenotypic level as well as their underlying genetic regulators. Given prevailing climatic conditions and future projections for climate change, clines could emerge as monitoring tools to track the cross-talk between climatic variables and organisms.

A water-soluble bifunctional, bistate ruthenium catalyst has been developed using the 8-aminoquinoline ligand which responds to an acid-base stimuli and is catalytically active for two complementary reactions. The "Ru-amino state" is highly active for catalytic transfer hydrogenation of various aldehydes using formic acid as the hydrogen source resulting in a range of primary alcohols. On the other hand, the "Ru-amido state" is active for the acceptorless dehydrogenation of alcohols to yield carboxylate salts or ketones. The reactions can be carried out in air without an inert atmosphere and the products can be purified by simple extraction without the use of any chromatographic techniques. A range of functional groups which include electron-rich and deficient (hetero)arenes and alkenes, alkynes, halides, esters, cyano, and nitro groups, are all well tolerated, indicating excellent chemoselectivity for transfer hydrogenation.

Introduction Fractures in children are extremely common scenarios encountered by orthopedicians. Conservative treatment has been the most preferred choice for the management of diaphyseal forearm fractures. Traditionally, pediatric forearm fractures are treated by above elbow plaster cast with the elbow flexed to 90 degrees. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the functional and radiological outcomes of children treated with closed reduction and extension casting for forearm fractures. Patient and methods This is a prospective study evaluating the functional and radiological outcomes of 30 children of less than the age of 14 years and without pathological fractures, treated with closed reduction and extension casting for forearm fractures, either both radius and ulna or radius or ulna at middle third level, who reported to the Department of Orthopedics, Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital, and Research Center, Pune, India, between September 2019 and March 2022. Results The mean pre-operative angulation in radius (antero-posterior {AP}) was 22.7, radius (lateral {LAT}) was 24.2, ulna (AP) was 31.2, and ulna (LAT) was 29.2. The immediate post-operative angulation of radius (AP) was 0.7, radius (LAT) was 3.2, ulna (AP) was 0.6, and ulna (LAT) was 4.9. Cast status at two weeks, 83.3% had intact cast and 16.7% had loosened casts. Post removal, most patients had a good rotation of motion (ROM) at three and six weeks. Conclusion Casting with extended elbow is much better as compared to flexion casting in the hands of a trainee doctor. Furthermore, chances of loss of reduction are negligible in extension casting as compared to flexion casting.

Introduction The cross-sectional area (CSA) and length of an individual's hamstring tendons are both variable, making it challenging for the operating surgeon to generate an ideal size graft during arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery. If we can predict the hamstring graft diameter using MRI (a routine radiological investigation used to diagnose knee pathology), this information, if obtained before surgery rather than after the harvesting of the hamstring tendons, may influence the graft choice and allow us to successfully perform ACL reconstruction with sufficient graft diameter. Aims The aims of this study were to determine the reliability and accuracy of 3T MRI in predicting quadruple hamstring graft diameter for ACL reconstruction, to determine the statistical correlation between the CSA of hamstring tendons on MRI and intraoperative quadruple hamstring graft diameter, and to find out the minimum CSA of hamstring tendons (ST+GR) required for an 8 mm quadruple hamstring graft diameter. Methods This prospective diagnostic study included 50 patients diagnosed with complete ACL rupture. On MRI, we assessed the CSA of the semitendinosus and gracilis tendons at two levels: one at the joint line and the other at the level where the anteroposterior (AP) diameter of the medial femoral condyle is longest. The quadruple ST+GR graft was passed through 0.5 mm increments of holes in the block (Biotek (Winooski, Vermont) or Smith & Nephew, London, United Kingdom) intraoperatively, and the diameter of the hole that permitted smooth passage of the whole graft was taken as the quadruple graft diameter. The cutoff CSA required for a graft of sufficient size was calculated using simple logistic regression analysis. The correlation between CSA measurements on MRI and intraoperative quadruple hamstring graft diameter was determined using Pearson's rank correlation coefficient. Results The mean ST+GR CSA on MRI was 18.9 mm2, the minimum CSA was 14.45 mm2, and the maximum CSA was 23.8 mm2. Pearson's correlation between the intraoperative quadruple hamstring graft diameter (mm) and ST+GR CSA on MRI was 0.838. The minimum ST+GR CSA required for an 8 mm quadruple hamstring graft diameter is 17.5 mm2. Conclusion A strong statistical correlation between ST+GR CSA on MRI and intraoperative quadruple hamstring graft diameter was found (Pearson's correlation = 0.838, p-value = 0.000). Thus, MRI is a reliable radiological investigation that can be used to predict the quadruple hamstring graft diameter. This method can help orthopedic surgeons successfully perform ACL reconstruction surgery without any graft complications.

BACKGROUND: In the United States, asthma occurs in a vast proportion of children and adolescents. Asthma exacerbation is an acute episodic event typically characterized by difficulty in breathing, chest tightness, coughing, or wheezing. Severe asthma exacerbation can be life-threatening and lead to service utilizations such as hospitalizations and emergency department (ED) visits. Opioid analgesic use can trigger an asthma exacerbation through 2 pharmacological mechanisms. Despite the potential mechanisms, there is lack of empirical evidence to determine the risk of asthma exacerbation and its association with opioid use. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the risk of asthma exacerbation in children with current asthma receiving an opioid vs a nonopioid analgesic. METHODS: Eligible individuals aged under 18 years with current asthma and receiving an incident analgesic prescription were identified from a large Medicaid managed care database during 2013-2018. Current asthma was defined as receipt of an asthma diagnosis and an antiasthmatic medication in the 12 months before analgesic medication initiation. Asthma exacerbation was defined as a hospitalization or ED visit with asthma as either the primary or secondary diagnosis within 3 days of receipt of an analgesic prescription. A weighted multivariable logistic regression using inverse probability treatment weighting was performed to test the association between use of analgesic medication and risk of asthma exacerbation. RESULTS: This study included 13,359 children with current asthma who filled either an incident opioid (n = 5,363, 40.1%) or nonopioid analgesic (n = 7,996, 59.9%) prescription. Asthma exacerbation was observed in 24 (0.5%) opioid analgesic recipients and 22 (0.3%) nonopioid analgesic recipients within 3 days of analgesic initiation. Weighted logistic regression results showed that children receiving opioid analgesics (adjusted odds ratio = 1.6, 95% CI = 0.9-2.9) did not have a statistically significantly higher risk of asthma exacerbation than their nonopioid analgesic recipient counterparts in the propensity score-weighted multivariable analysis. CONCLUSIONS: Asthma exacerbation associated with analgesic use in children with current asthma was an uncommon event, and the risk was comparable among children receiving opioid vs nonopioid analgesics. Calcium carbonate micro- and nanoparticles are considered as chemically inert materials. Therefore, they are widely considered in the field of biosensing, drug delivery, and as filler material in plastic, paper, paint, sealant, and adhesive industries. The unusual properties of calcium carbonate-based nanomaterials, such as biocompatibility, high surface-to-volume ratio, robust nature, easy synthesis, and surface functionalization, and ability to exist in a variety of morphologies and polymorphs, make them an ideal candidate for both industrial and biomedical applications. Significant research efforts have been devoted for developing novel synthesis methods of calcium carbonate particles in micrometer and nanometer dimensions. This review highlights different approaches of the synthesis of calcium carbonate micro- and nanoparticles, such as precipitation, slow carbonation, emulsion, polymer-mediated method, including in-situ polymerization, mechano-chemical, microwave-assisted method, and biological methods. The applications of these versatile calcium carbonate micro- and nanoparticles in the biomedical field (such as in drug delivery, therapeutics, tissue engineering, antimicrobial activity, biosensing applications), in industries, and environmental sector has also been comprehensively covered.

Behavioral Health (BH) screening is critical for early diagnosis and treatment of pediatric mental disorders. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of geographic access to primary care providers (PCP) on pediatric BH screening in children with different race/ethnicity. A retrospective cohort study was conducted using the 2013-2016 administrative claims data from a large pediatric Medicaid Managed Care Plan that have been linked to 2010 US Census data and the 2017 National Provider Identifier (NPI) Registry. Geographic access was defined as the actual travel distance to nearest PCP and the PCP density within 10-mile travel radius from each individual's residence. Stratified multivariate logistic regression was conducted to examine the association between the geographic access to PCP and the likelihood of receiving screening for behavioral disorders within each racial/ethnic group. BH screening rate was 12.6% among 402,655 children and adolescents who met the inclusion criteria. Multivariable analysis stratified by individual race/ethnicity revealed that Hispanic and Black children were more vulnerable to the geographic access barriers than their non-Hispanic White counterparts. The increase in travel distance to the nearest PCP was negatively associated with screening uptake only among Hispanics (10-20 miles vs. 0-10 miles: OR = 0.78, 95% CI [0.71-0.86]; 20-30 miles vs. 0-10 miles: OR = 0.35, 95% CI [0.23-0.54]). In a subgroup that had access to at least one PCP within 10 miles of travel distance, the variation in PCP density had a greater impact on the screening uptake among Hispanics and Blacks than that in non-Hispanic Whites.

PURPOSE: Opioid analgesics are frequently dispensed in children despite its known risk in children with a compromised airway function. The objectives of the study were to assess the prevalence of opioid analgesic dispensing in children with current asthma and to identify patient and prescriber factors associated with the dispensing of opioid versus non-opioid analgesics. METHODS: Children <18 years of age, having current asthma and receiving an incident analgesic prescription were identified from a large Medicaid Managed Care Plan during years 2013 through 2018. Current asthma was defined as both receiving an asthma diagnosis and filling an anti-asthmatic medication during the 12-month period prior to the analgesic medication initiation. A scoring algorithm was applied to associate analgesic prescription with procedures and diagnoses according to perceived need for analgesia and time proximity. RESULTS: Of the 9529 children meeting the inclusion criteria, 2681 (28.1%) received an opioid prescription. Opioid analgesic dispensing was most common among children who had an outpatient surgery/procedure (29.4%), trauma (19.4%) dental procedure (18.4%), and respiratory infection (10.6%). Multivariable analysis indicated that non-Hispanic Black (AOR: 0.39[0.3-0.5]) and Hispanic (AOR: 0.51[0.4-0.6]) children were less likely to receive an opioid analgesic compared to their non-Hispanic White counterparts. Children with prior history of asthma-related emergency department visit (AOR: 1.24[1.0-1.5]) and short acting beta agonist overuse (AOR: 1.33[1.1-1.7]) were more likely to fill an opioid analgesic prescription than those without. CONCLUSION: Opioid analgesics are frequently dispensed to children with asthma. A higher dispensing rate was observed among non-Hispanic White children and among those with a history of uncontrolled asthma.

The mammalian spatial navigation system is characterized by an initial divergence of internal representations, with disparate classes of neurons responding to distinct features including location, speed, borders and head direction; an ensuing convergence finally enables navigation and path integration. Here, we report the algorithmic and hardware implementation of biomimetic neural structures encompassing a feed-forward trimodular, multi-layer architecture representing grid-cell, place-cell and decoding modules for navigation. The grid-cell module comprised of neurons that fired in a grid-like pattern, and was built of distinct layers that constituted the dorsoventral span of the medial entorhinal cortex. Each layer was built as an independent continuous attractor network with distinct grid-field spatial scales. The place-cell module comprised of neurons that fired at one or few spatial locations, organized into different clusters based on convergent modular inputs from different grid-cell layers, replicating the gradient in place-field size along the hippocampal dorso-ventral axis. The decoding module, a two-layer neural network that constitutes the convergence of the divergent representations in preceding modules, received inputs from the place-cell module and provided specific coordinates of the navigating object. After vital design optimizations involving all modules, we implemented the tri-modular structure on Zynq Ultrascale+ field-programmable gate array silicon chip, and demonstrated its capacity in precisely estimating the navigational trajectory with minimal overall resource consumption involving a mere 2.92% Look Up Table utilization. Our implementation of a biomimetic, digital spatial navigation system is stable, reliable, reconfigurable, real-time with execution time of about 32 s for 100k input samples (in contrast to 40 minutes on Intel Core i7-7700 CPU with 8 cores clocking at 3.60 GHz) and thus can be deployed for autonomous-robotic navigation without requiring additional sensors.

Designing reactions in aqueous media has been one of the major challenges in modern organic synthesis, especially to avoid the use of large amounts of organic solvents whose disposal is a matter of grave concern from an environmental perspective. The oxidation of alcohols and amines is an essential and important step in the synthesis of many valuable products including polymers and pharmaceuticals. In recent times, there has been a surge in the use of water as a solvent in many organic reactions. This review focuses specifically on the oxidation reactions of alcohols and amines carried out in water media using transition metal catalysts, metal-free catalysts and photocatalysts.
