Aim: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is difficult to diagnose objectively due to its heterogeneous and complex manifestations. This study aimed to objectively characterize the behavioral phenotypes of ASD children by exploring the multiscale behavioral dynamics. Methods: We applied behavioral organization (BO) and multiscale sample entropy (MSE) analyses to physical activity data collected from ASD and typically developing children, using wearable monitors in their daily life. We also examined their correlation with auditory startle response measures and clinical questionnaires, including the Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS) and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). Results: A significant decrease in MSE at timescales longer than 6 min was observed in ASD children, suggesting decreased irregularity or unpredictability, potentially linked to repetitive behaviors or stereotyped patterns commonly observed in ASD. Additionally, an increase in MSE positively correlated with prepulse inhibition levels, indicating its relationship with sensorimotor gating. Moreover, the observed significant negative correlation with the total difficulty score of SDQ substantiates MSE's potential as an objective metric for assessing general mental health problems associated with ASD. Conclusion: Multiscale analysis enhances the understanding of ASD's behavioral dynamics, providing valuable metrics for real-world assessments.

Background and Aims: Precise diagnostic biomarkers are urgently required for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify PDAC-specific exosomal microRNAs (Ex-miRs) from pancreatic juice (PJ) and evaluate their diagnostic potential. Methods: Exosomes in PJ and serum were extracted using ultracentrifugation and confirmed morphologically and biochemically. PDAC-specific Ex-miRs were identified using our original miR arrays, in which "Ex-miRs derived from the PJ of patients with chronic pancreatitis (CP)" were subtracted from Ex-miRs commonly expressed in both "human PDAC cell lines" and "the PJ of patients with PDAC." We verified the expression of these miRs using quantitative real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Changes in serum Ex-miR levels were assessed in 2 patients with PDAC who underwent curative resection. In situ hybridization was performed to directly visualize PDAC-specific miR expression in cancer cells. Results: We identified novel Ex-miR-4516 and Ex-miR-4674 from the PJ of patients with PDAC, and they showed 80.0% and 81.8% sensitivity, 80.8% and 73.3% specificity, and 90.9% and 80.8% accuracy, respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of a triple assay of Ex-miR-4516/4674/PJ cytology increased to 93.3%, 81.8%, and 88.5%, respectively. In serum samples (n = 88), the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of Ex-miR-4516 were 97.5%, 34.3%, and 68%, respectively. Presurgical levels of serum-derived Ex-miR-4516 in 2 patients with relatively early disease stages declined after curative resection. In situ hybridization demonstrated that Ex-miR-4516 expression exclusively occurred in cancer cells. Conclusion: Liquid assays using the in situ-proven Ex-miR-4516 may have a high potential for detecting relatively early-stage PDAC and monitoring its clinical course.

INTRODUCTION: Survival comparisons among patients with liver metastases from pancreatic and rectal neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) were limited, and the efficacy of observation rules in patients undergoing hepatectomy for neuroendocrine liver metastases (NELMs) was unknown. This study aims to distinguish these characteristics and clarify the effects of the observation rules on NELMs. METHODS: Clinical data were separately collected from patients with pancreatic and rectal NELMs at medical centers in both Japan and China. The Japanese cohort followed the observation rules for the resection of NELMs. A comparative analysis was conducted on clinical characteristics and prognosis features such as overall survival time (OS) and disease-free survival interval (DFS-I). RESULTS: Enrollment included 47 and 34 patients from Japan and China, respectively. Of these, 69 and 12 patients had tumors originating from the pancreas and rectum, respectively. The OS time in patients undergoing primary tumor resection was significantly longer; however, the OS time between the patients undergoing and not undergoing radical resection of liver metastasis was the same. In asynchronous NELMs, patients with rectal (R)-NELMs showed a significantly higher proportion of type III NELMs. Additionally, the median DFS-I of asynchronous R-NELMs was longer than the recommended follow-up time, with 71.4% of them classified as G2. In the Japanese cohort, patients who adhered to the observation rules exhibited a longer median DFS after hepatectomy for NELMs compared with their counterparts. CONCLUSION: Although curative surgery is crucial for primary lesions, personalized approaches are required to manage NELMs. Extended overall follow-ups and shortened follow-up intervals are recommended for G2 stage rectal NETs. The observation rules for NELMs require further validation with a larger sample size.

Localized nodular pulmonary amyloidosis can form pulmonary nodules associated with cystic air spaces, but due to its rarity, it cannot be included in the differential diagnosis without appropriate knowledge. Among the differential diagnoses of nodules with cysts in the lungs is primary lung cancer, however, diagnosis based solely on imaging findings is challenging. A 59-year-old Japanese female was referred to our hospital for an abnormality noted on the chest radiograph of an annual health check. She had no history of smoking or medical issues. Chest computed tomography revealed a 1.2 cm pulmonary nodule with surrounding multilocular cystic air spaces in the superior lingular segment. We suspected it was a nodule of primary lung cancer arising in the pulmonary cyst and performed video-assisted thoracic surgery. As the intraoperative frozen examination after a wedge resection revealed fibrotic tissue without malignancy, we did not do any further resection. The histopathological examination of the permanent section revealed unstructured eosinophilic deposits positive for direct fast scarlet staining, which were consistent with amyloidosis. The surrounding pulmonary cysts contained the check valve made by amyloid deposition. Localized nodular pulmonary amyloidosis can give rise to pulmonary cysts and mimic primary lung cancer associated with cystic air spaces. It should be raised as a potential differential diagnosis for pulmonary nodules with cystic air space formation, particularly in patients without a smoking history.

As novel biomarkers for gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEPNET) are in demand, we aimed to validate the clinical value of the NETest in Japanese patients. Between 2021 and 2023, blood and clinical data were collected from patients with GEPNET. Among 35 patients (median age: 59 [49-66] years), 27 cases originated from the pancreas and eight from the gastrointestinal tract. Of 69 samples sent to the laboratory, 56 (81.2%) underwent NETest. The diagnostic sensitivity was 97.1%. Among three patients who underwent R0 resection and four treated with peptide receptor radionuclide therapy, the changes in NETest scores closely correlated with disease progression. The NETest demonstrated high diagnostic efficacy and accurate therapeutic monitoring capabilities in a Japanese population.

Toca 511, a tumor-selective retroviral replicating vector encoding the yeast cytosine deaminase (yCD) gene, exerts direct antitumor effects through intratumoral prodrug 5-fluorocytosine (5-FC) conversion to active drug 5-fluorouracil by yCD, and has demonstrated therapeutic efficacy in preclinical and clinical trials of various cancers. Toca 511/5-FC treatment may also induce antitumor immunity. Here, we first examined antitumor immune responses activated by Toca 511/5-FC treatment in an immunocompetent murine pancreatic cancer model. We then evaluated the therapeutic effects achieved in combination with anti-programmed cell death protein 1 antibody. In the bilateral subcutaneous tumor model, as compared with the control group, enhanced CD8+ T-cell-mediated cytotoxicity and increased T-cell infiltration in Toca 511-untransduced contralateral tumors were observed. Furthermore, the expression levels of T-cell co-inhibitory receptors on CD8+ T-cells increased during treatment. In the bilateral subcutaneous tumor model, combination therapy showed significantly stronger tumor growth inhibition than that achieved with either monotherapy. In an orthotopic tumor and peritoneal dissemination model, the combination therapy resulted in complete regression in both transduced orthotopic tumors and untransduced peritoneal dissemination. Thus, Toca 511/5-FC treatment induced a systemic antitumor immune response, and the combination therapy could be a promising clinical strategy for treating metastatic pancreatic cancer.

OBJECTIVE: The study examined daily associations between presenteeism and health-related factors among office workers using ecological momentary assessment (EMA). METHODS: Diurnal mood and physical symptoms were repeatedly recorded over 2 weeks with EMA. Daily work performance (WP) was also recorded. Recalled WP and baseline health conditions were assessed via questionnaires. Daily sleep was assessed using actigraphy. Reliability between recalled and daily WP was compared. Hierarchical linear modeling (HLM) was used to analyze the effects of sleep, mood, and physical symptoms on daily WP. RESULTS: Weak yet significant agreement was found between recalled and daily WP, with EMA capturing occasional declines in performance overlooked by recalled assessments. HLM indicated that longer sleep, reduced depressive mood, and decreased shoulder stiffness were significantly associated with increased daily WP. CONCLUSIONS: These factors are associated with daily fluctuations in presenteeism, suggesting potential targets of intervention.

Importance: Preoperative chemo(radio)therapy is increasingly used in patients with localized pancreatic adenocarcinoma, leading to pathological complete response (pCR) in a small subset of patients. However, multicenter studies with in-depth data about pCR are lacking. Objective: To investigate the incidence, outcome, and risk factors of pCR after preoperative chemo(radio)therapy. Design, Setting, and Participants: This observational, international, multicenter cohort study assessed all consecutive patients with pathology-proven localized pancreatic adenocarcinoma who underwent resection after 2 or more cycles of chemotherapy (with or without radiotherapy) in 19 centers from 8 countries (January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2018). Data collection was performed from February 1, 2020, to April 30, 2022, and analyses from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023. Median follow-up was 19 months. Exposures: Preoperative chemotherapy (with or without radiotherapy) followed by resection. Main Outcomes and Measures: The incidence of pCR (defined as absence of vital tumor cells in the sampled pancreas specimen after resection), its association with OS from surgery, and factors associated with pCR. Factors associated with overall survival (OS) and pCR were investigated with Cox proportional hazards and logistic regression models, respectively. Results: Overall, 1758 patients (mean [SD] age, 64 [9] years; 879 [50.0%] male) were studied. The rate of pCR was 4.8% (n = 85), and pCR was associated with OS (hazard ratio, 0.46; 95% CI, 0.26-0.83). The 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS rates were 95%, 82%, and 63% in patients with pCR vs 80%, 46%, and 30% in patients without pCR, respectively (P < .001). Factors associated with pCR included preoperative multiagent chemotherapy other than (m)FOLFIRINOX ([modified] leucovorin calcium [folinic acid], fluorouracil, irinotecan hydrochloride, and oxaliplatin) (odds ratio [OR], 0.48; 95% CI, 0.26-0.87), preoperative conventional radiotherapy (OR, 2.03; 95% CI, 1.00-4.10), preoperative stereotactic body radiotherapy (OR, 8.91; 95% CI, 4.17-19.05), radiologic response (OR, 13.00; 95% CI, 7.02-24.08), and normal(ized) serum carbohydrate antigen 19-9 after preoperative therapy (OR, 3.76; 95% CI, 1.79-7.89). Conclusions and Relevance: This international, retrospective cohort study found that pCR occurred in 4.8% of patients with resected localized pancreatic adenocarcinoma after preoperative chemo(radio)therapy. Although pCR does not reflect cure, it is associated with improved OS, with a doubled 5-year OS of 63% compared with 30% in patients without pCR. Factors associated with pCR related to preoperative chemo(radio)therapy regimens and anatomical and biological disease response features may have implications for treatment strategies that require validation in prospective studies because they may not universally apply to all patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

We used a step-wheel system to examine the activity of striatal projection neurons as mice practiced stepping on complexly arranged foothold pegs in this Ferris-wheel-like device to receive reward. Sets of dorsolateral striatal projection neurons were sensitive to specific parameters of repetitive motor coordination during the runs. They responded to combinations of the parameters of continuous movements (interval, phase, and repetition), forming "chunking responses"-some for combinations of these parameters across multiple body parts. Recordings in sensorimotor cortical areas exhibited notably fewer such responses but were documented for smaller neuron sets whose heterogeneity was significant. Striatal movement encoding via chunking responsivity could provide insight into neural strategies governing effective motor control by the striatum. It is possible that the striking need for external rhythmic cuing to allow movement sequences by Parkinson's patients could, at least in part, reflect dysfunction in such striatal coding.

Background: The cause of liver disease is changing, but its impact on liver transplantation (LT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in women and men is unclear. We performed a nationwide study to assess the prevalence and posttransplant survival outcomes of the various causes of liver disease in women and men with HCC. Methods: Data were obtained from the United Network for Organ Sharing database from 2000 to 2022. Data related to the listing, transplant, waitlist mortality, and posttransplant mortality for HCC were extracted. The proportion of HCC related to the various causes of liver disease among LT candidates and recipients and posttransplant survival were compared between women and men. Results: A total of 51 721 individuals (39 465 men, 12 256 women) with HCC were included. From 2000 to 2022, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) was the fastest-growing cause of liver disease among female LT candidates with HCC (P < 0.01), followed by alcohol-associated liver disease. NASH overtook chronic hepatitis C as the leading cause of liver disease in 2020 and 2022 among waitlisted women and men with HCC, respectively. Female patients with HCC spent a significantly longer time on the LT waitlist compared with male patients (ß: 8.73; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.91-14.54). Female patients with HCC from alcohol-associated liver disease also have a lower probability of receiving LT (subdistribution hazard ratio: 0.90; 95% CI, 0.82-0.99). Among transplant recipients with NASH HCC, female sex was associated with lower posttransplant mortality compared with male sex (hazard ratio: 0.79; 95% CI, 0.70-0.89; P < 0.01). Conclusions: Women have a significantly longer waitlist duration compared with men. NASH is now the leading cause of liver disease among both female and male LT candidates and recipients with HCC.

BACKGROUND: Sleep disturbance is a major contributor to future health and occupational issues. Mobile health can provide interventions that address adverse health behaviors for individuals in a vulnerable health state in real-world settings (just-in-time adaptive intervention). OBJECTIVE: This study aims to identify a subpopulation with vulnerable sleep state in daily life (study 1) and, immediately afterward, to test whether providing mobile health intervention improved habitual sleep behaviors and psychological wellness in real-world settings by conducting a microrandomized trial (study 2). METHODS: Japanese workers (n=182) were instructed to collect data on their habitual sleep behaviors and momentary symptoms (including depressive mood, anxiety, and subjective sleep quality) using digital devices in a real-world setting. In study 1, we calculated intraindividual mean and variability of sleep hours, midpoint of sleep, and sleep efficiency to characterize their habitual sleep behaviors. In study 2, we designed and conducted a sleep just-in-time adaptive intervention, which delivered objective push-type sleep feedback messages to improve their sleep hours for a subset of participants in study 1 (n=81). The feedback messages were generated based on their sleep data measured on previous nights and were randomly sent to participants with a 50% chance for each day (microrandomization). RESULTS: In study 1, we applied hierarchical clustering to dichotomize the population into 2 clusters (group A and group B) and found that group B was characterized by unstable habitual sleep behaviors (large intraindividual variabilities). In addition, linear mixed-effect models showed that the interindividual variability of sleep hours was significantly associated with depressive mood (ß=3.83; P=.004), anxiety (ß=5.70; P=.03), and subjective sleep quality (ß=-3.37; P=.03). In study 2, we found that providing sleep feedback prolonged subsequent sleep hours (increasing up to 40 min; P=.01), and this effect lasted for up to 7 days. Overall, the stability of sleep hours in study 2 was significantly improved among participants in group B compared with the participants in study 1 (P=.001). CONCLUSIONS: This is the first study to demonstrate that providing sleep feedback can benefit the modification of habitual sleep behaviors in a microrandomized trial. The findings of this study encourage the use of digitalized health intervention that uses real-time health monitoring and personalized feedback.

INTRODUCTION: Pulmonary sclerosing pneumocytoma (PSP) is a rare benign tumor classified as a pulmonary adenoma. It presents as a solitary pulmonary nodule without any specific findings, often posing a diagnostic challenge. We herein present a case of a PSP with a short volume doubling time (VDT) comparable to low-grade pulmonary malignancies. CASE PRESENTATION: A 27-year-old female presented to the emergency department with a fever that had persisted for the past two days. An incidental finding on chest screening computed tomography (CT) revealed a 9 mm pulmonary nodule with a round shape and smooth margin, suggestive of a benign etiology. Follow-up CT one year later revealed an enlarged nodule exhibiting a VDT of 249 days. A thoracoscopic lingulectomy was performed, and the histopathological examination revealed papillary and diffuse proliferation of epithelial-like cells. The epithelial cells were positive for cytokeratin (CKAE1/AE3) and thyroid transcription factor 1 (TTF1), whereas the stromal cells were positive for TTF1 but negative for CKAE1/AE3. Those results were consistent with the diagnosis of a PSP. DISCUSSION: PSPs typically present as incidental pulmonary nodules with no specific findings, often posing a diagnostic challenge. The radiographic features of PSPs have mainly been explored based on the morphological findings and metabolic activity, with limited research on their growth rate, represented by the VDT. CONCLUSION: PSPs may exhibit rapid growth, demonstrating a short VDT similar to that of low-grade pulmonary malignancies. Comprehensive diagnostic testing not based solely on the growth rate for this rare condition is essential.

Introduction: In this multicenter clinical study, we aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of the transhepatic arterial administration of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF)-mobilized autologous peripheral blood (PB)-CD34+ cells compared with standard therapy in patients with decompensated cirrhosis type C. Methods: Patients were randomly assigned (2:1) to the CD34+ cell transplant (CD34+ cell) or standard-of-care (SOC) group and followed up for 52 weeks. The primary endpoints were the non-progression rate of Child-Pugh (CP) scores at 24 weeks post-enrollment and the safety of the protocol treatment. Results: Fourteen patients (CD34+ cell group: 10; SOC group: 4) were enrolled. CP scores at 24 weeks had a non-progression rate of 90% in the CD34+ cell group and 100% in the SOC group, with no significant difference between groups. Importantly, 4 out of 10 patients in the CD34+ cell group exhibited an improvement from decompensated to compensated cirrhosis, whereas all patients in the SOC group remained in decompensated cirrhosis. With regard to secondary endpoints, a trend toward increased serum albumin levels in the CD34+ cell group was noted. Serious adverse events (SAEs) occurred in three patients in the CD34+ cell group and in one patient in the SOC group. No causal relationship was observed between all SAEs and G-CSF, leukapheresis, or cell transplantation in the CD34+ cell group. No patients died and no hepatocellular carcinoma occurred within the study period. Conclusions: PB-CD34+ cell infusion therapy may have the potential to circumvent the decompensated stage of cirrhosis, thus avoiding the need for liver transplantation.

BACKGROUND: In drug-induced liver injury, vascular endothelial progenitor cells, specifically the CD34+ cell fractions, have been found to decrease liver fibrosis and promote regeneration. However, it is unclear whether CD34+ cell transplantation has anti-fibrogenic effects on MASH, which has previously been treated effectively with anti-angiogenic therapy. We investigated the efficacy of ex vivo-expanded CD34+ cells in treating MASH livers. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Diet-induced MASH mice were fed a choline-deficient, L-amino acid-defined, high-fat diet for 12 or 20 weeks, and were designated as a mild and a severe fibrosis model, respectively. Mouse bone marrow CD34+ cells were expanded for 7 days, transplanted into each mouse once or twice 2 weeks later, and sacrificed at 4 weeks after the first transplantation. RESULTS: Expanded CD34+ cell transplantation ameliorated liver fibrosis, regardless of fibrosis degree, as indicated by the decrease in α-smooth muscle actin-positive cells, hydroxyproline concentration, and fibrogenic gene expression of Col1a1 and Timp1. Furthermore, engrafted CD34+ cells reduced alanine transaminase levels, the number of TUNEL+ hepatocytes, and 8-OHdG concentration. RNA-sequencing data showed that "defense response to virus" was the most down-regulated category in the Gene Ontology analysis and subsequent analysis revealed the suppression of RIG-I-like receptors/Irf7/Stat1/Cxcl10 axis in expanded CD34+ cell-transplanted livers. Finally, the downregulation of CXCL10 expression inhibits the mobilization of inflammatory immune cells, macrophages, T cells, and natural killer cells to the MASH liver. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that transplanted expanded CD34+ cells alleviate fibrotic liver injury in MASH mouse models through possible modulation of the innate immune response, which is abnormally activated by hepatocyte lipotoxicity.

Current approved anti-angiogenic drugs (AAD) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) inhibit tumor angiogenesis, but affect the hepatic vasculature resulting in adverse effects. Tumor endothelial cells (TECs) differ from normal endothelial cells. In this study, we aimed to detect TEC-specific miRNAs and develop an anti-angiogenic treatment specific for TECs. We established HCC orthotopic mouse models. TEC-specific miRNAs were detected using a microRNA array. Finally, we evaluated the therapeutic effects of the TEC-specific miRNA agonist cocktail. In total, 260 TEC-specific genes were detected. Among the top ten downregulated TEC-specific miRNAs, miR-139-3p and 214-3p were important for the TEC phenotype. The TEC-specific microRNA agonist cocktail showed significant anti-tumor effects by inhibiting tumor angiogenesis without affecting hepatic vasculatures in HCC orthotopic mouse models. Moreover, it significantly downregulated tip-cell sprouting-related genes. We identified two downregulated TEC-specific miRNAs; microRNA replacement therapy, which targets the downregulated TEC-specific miRNAs, is an effective and promising treatment for HCC.

Background: Polypharmacy and potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) impose a burden on patients with advanced cancer near the end of their lives. However, only a few studies have addressed factors associated with PIMs in such patients. Objective: To examine polypharmacy and factors associated with PIMs in end-of-life patients with advanced cancer. Design: Retrospective chart review. Setting/Subjects: We analyzed 265 patients with advanced cancer who died in a palliative care unit (PCU) or at home in a home medical care (HMC) from April 2018 to December 2022 in Japan. Measurements: Sociodemographic, clinical, and prescription data at the time of PCU admission or HMC initiation were collected from electronic medical records. PIMs were assessed using OncPal Deprescribing Guidelines. Results: Patients with advanced cancer with an average age of 76.3 years and median survival days of 20 were included in the analyses. The average number of medications was 6.4 (standard deviation = 3.4), and PIMs were prescribed to 50.2%. Frequent PIMs included antihypertensive medications, peptic ulcer prophylaxis, and dyslipidemia medications. A multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that age ≥75 years (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 2.30, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.30-4.05), referral from an outpatient setting compared with inpatient setting (aOR = 2.06, 95% CI = 1.12-3.80), more than two comorbidities (aOR = 1.88, 95% CI = 1.08-3.29), and more than five medications (aOR = 1.84, 95% CI = 1.03-3.28) were associated with PIMs. Conclusions: Medication reconciliation is recommended at the time of transition to a PCU or HMC, especially for older patients with advanced cancer who were referred from an outpatient setting and present more comorbidities and prescriptions.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most lethal malignancies worldwide. However, drug discovery for PDAC treatment has proven complicated, leading to stagnant therapeutic outcomes. Here, we identify Glycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK3) as a therapeutic target through a whole-body genetic screening utilizing a '4-hit' Drosophila model mimicking the PDAC genotype. Reducing the gene dosage of GSK3 in a whole-body manner or knocking down GSK3 specifically in transformed cells suppressed 4-hit fly lethality, similar to Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MEK), the therapeutic target in PDAC we have recently reported. Consistently, a combination of the GSK3 inhibitor CHIR99021 and the MEK inhibitor trametinib suppressed the phosphorylation of Polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) as well as the growth of orthotopic human PDAC xenografts in mice. Additionally, reducing PLK1 genetically in 4-hit flies rescued their lethality. Our results reveal a therapeutic vulnerability in PDAC that offers a treatment opportunity for patients by inhibiting multiple targets.

INTRODUCTION: Inhalation of silicon dioxide causes silicosis, a condition that may occur in various industries and work settings. Radiologic findings typically show numerous nodular opacities, while solitary pulmonary nodules are atypical for silicosis. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 68-year-old woman, a former glassblower, presented with a left solitary pulmonary nodule (13 mm) on chest computed tomography. The nodule enlarged to 23 mm over 6 months, exhibiting an irregular shape, spiculated margin, and rapid growth with a doubling time of 186.4 days. She underwent a left upper lobectomy with a suspicion of lung cancer. The histopathological findings revealed peribronchial lymphocytic infiltration and granulomatous-like structures containing multinucleated giant cells and phagocytic crystalline foreign bodies. These findings were consistent with a foreign body reaction to the glass fragments. DISCUSSION: Inhaled glass fragments may present as a solitary pulmonary nodule after the retirement of a glass blower. Its behavior and radiological features mimicked a primary lung adenocarcinoma. CONCLUSION: Solitary pulmonary nodules due to inhaled glass fragments may mimic a primary lung adenocarcinoma. A definitive diagnosis requires a histological examination in this rare condition.
