[The treatment of preasthma patients by inhalations of calcitrin]. / Lechenie bol'nykh predastmoi ingaliatsiiami kal'tsitrina.

Calcitrin inhalations were used in the treatment of 42 patients with preasthma (chronic obstructive bronchitis--37, asthmatic bronchitis--15). The antiinflammatory and chronic obstructive bronchitis. The broncholytic effect prevailed in patients with asthmatic bronchitis. There were no complications and side-effects due to calcitrin inhalations. Calcitrin inhalations are recommended in the complex treatment of preasthma.

Humoral immunity, body reactivity, reparative function of connective tissue were investigated in 45 patients with poor-symptom acute pneumonia and in 29 lingering pneumonia cases. The patients were examined for the content of IgM, IgG and IgA, haptoglobin, seromucoid, collagen metabolism (by oxyproline) on treatment days 1-5 and 15-25. With prolongation of the inflammation resolution and transformation of the disease into a lingering form, there appeared an imbalance of immunoglobulins manifested by low values of IgG and IgA. The latter immunoglobulins being the most active in body defences, this reflects disturbances in the mechanism of humoral immunity responsible for antiinfectious activity. Haptoglobin concentrations were of certain diagnostic significance, its level being higher in lingering pneumonia. In addition, oxyproline (total and bound) level rose thus evidencing catabolism predominance over collagen synthesis. This may underline delayed repair of the connective tissue in the lungs. Seromucoid, on the contrary, proved an unreliable sign. It is concluded that the level of immunoglobulins (IgG and IgA, in particular) as well as high blood haptoglobin and oxyproline with its components can be considered risk factors for poor-symptom pneumonia progression into a lingering one.

[Effect of calcitrin inhalation on the course of cortico-dependent bronchial asthma]. / Vliianie ingaliatsii kal'tsitrina na techenie kortikozavisimoi bronkhial'noi astmy.

Thirty-five patients with cortico-dependent bronchial asthma were treated with calcitrin inhalations during disease exacerbation. Calcitrin was administered daily for 10-12 days in the doses increased from 1 to 3-4 Units followed by reduction to the initial dose in the presence of routine therapy. According to the clinico-laboratory, spirographic and tachographic studies, the symptoms of asthma exacerbation rapidly degressed, while asphyxia attacks ceased or were relieved. The treatment with calcitrin made it possible to reduce the dose of steroid hormones by 25-50 percent on the average in 24 patients. In 11 patients, administration of the hormones could be discontinued. At the same time the majority of the patients demonstrated amelioration or elimination of the side effects induced by steroids (ossalgia, edema, gastralgia).
