RESUMO

A total of 611 patients (1222 eyes) with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus which manifested at the age of 1-15 years were examined. Optic nerve was examined in 3 groups: 1) 177 students of Kharkov boarding school for diabetic children, 2) 78 patients aged 6-18 years treated on an outpatient basis, and 3) 356 patients aged 20-54 years. Optic nerve involvement was detected 43.5 times more often in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy than in those with preproliferative diabetic retinopathy and 3 times more often in group 2 than in group 1. Chromatic visocontrastometry detected impaired spatial contrast sensitivity before manifestation of disorders in visual acuity and visual field. The earliest disorders in spatial contrast sensitivity were detected by red-white patterns.

RESUMO

Effects of ultraviolet exposure of the blood (UVEB), intravenous laser exposure of the blood (IVLEB), and transcutaneous magnetic laser exposure of the blood (TMLEB) on ocular functions, microcirculation, and hemodynamics were studied in 79 patients with juvenile diabetic retinopathy. All these treatments had a nonspecific positive effect on the spatial contrast sensitivity, microcirculation, and choroid hemodynamics of the eye. Correcting mainly intravascular changes in the microcirculatory bed, quantum hemotherapy methods are pathogenetically justified in the treatment and prevention of tissue ischemia in diabetic involvement of the organ of vision. Results of noninvasive TMLEB with generalized and local effects were statistically similar to results of invasive UVEB and IVLEB.

RESUMO

Analysing the physicians' comments on ultrasonic diagnostic devices revealed it necessary to adapt the routine transducers of these devices for diapeutical interventions. High-echogenicity needles that direct devices for their performance (holders) and special adapters have been designed.

RESUMO

While performing ultrasonic therapy for some soft tissue diseases, a deep tissue ultrasound penetration should be prevented since there may be potential thermal effects on the borderline surfaces (the periostrium, articular menisci, etc.) with greatly varying acoustic properties. For this, a bimorphic low-wave emitter should be used. A emitter-generated pressure-distance relationship has been theoretically derived and experimentally tested. There is an abrupt pressure decline when the emitter is removed from the surface, which recommends that the emitter of this type should be applied to the physiotherapy for diseases needed only near-surface exposure.
