RESUMO

The attempts were made to apply the argon laser radiation (the green region of light spectrum) for the treatment of breast carcinoma. The 46 post-operative skin metastases of breast carcinoma in 15 women were irradiated with no photosensitizers used. As a result of the treatment (4 to 50 sessions) the complete resolution of metastatic tumours was achieved in 13 patients. In contrast to the methods of laser coagulation treatment of tumours, used till now, the described approach provides for selective elimination of tumour cells without normal tissue alteration. The involvement of photothermic or photochemical mechanisms in this selective effect is discussed.

RESUMO

A comparison of the results of clinical, roentgenological, cytological and thermographic examination of breast cancer patients showed the X-ray procedure to be the most effective in making a reliable diagnosis. However, in advanced cases, and, particularly, with concomitant diffused hyperplasia of glandular or connective tissues of the breast, clinical and cytological examination should be preferred. Thermography should not be employed for early detection of breast cancer, since it gives a high percentage of false-negative and false-positive results. However, the best results assuring reliable diagnosis in 94.9% of cases are produced by a joint application of clinical, X-ray and cytological procedures.

RESUMO

Patients with breast cancer in stage I--II of various histological structure showed varied hormonal disturbances. In adenocarcinoma a high level of classic estrogens or total phenolsteroids was noted. In low differentiated cancers (solid, scirrhus) the values of estrogens excretion were considerably lower, but, if correlated with other hormones (androsterone), a relative hyperestrogenization is observed. Scirrhous cancers are characterized by the increased 17-ketogenic steroids excretion. The character of hormonal disturbances concomitant with the predominant development of certain breast tumor structures (adenocarcinoma, solid cancer, scirrhus) is identical for the patients being in their reproductive and menopausal period.

RESUMO

A correlation was found between the character of hormonal disorders and the morphological organization of dyshormonal hyperplasias of the mammary gland. Patients with fibroadenoma and fibrous-cystic mastopathy are characterized by a high diurnal urine content of glucocorticoids and low estrogens level, especially estradiol. Patients with cystic fibroadenomatosis of the mammary gland show the high level of the excretion of classical and total phenolsteroids and low androsterone level.

RESUMO

The modifield Falck's fluorescence-microscope method was used to investigate the content of biogenic amines in 218 bioptic specimens taken from patients suffering from tumours and other pathological conditions. It was established that malignanat tumours were characterized by accumulation in the tissue of the tumour and particularly in the reactive zone, of considerable amounts of substances with green luminescence (histamine, catecholamines, and probably, di- and polyamines) and by the disappearance of serotonin from the connective-tissue cells. In benign tumours, as well as in focal processes of non-tumour character (chronic gastric ulcer, mastitis, pulmonary tuberculosis) in the reactive zone there were always an increased number of connective-tissue cells containing serotonin. An opinion was put forward to the effect that one can judge about a degree of lesion of the connective tissue and the nature of the course of a pathological process from the character of biogenic amine contained in the elements of the connective tissue in the reactive zone. Identification of biogenic amines in the tissue of the reactive zone may serve as an additional test in carrying out differential diagnosis and will be of use in differentiating malignant tumours from benign processes and other focla pathology of non-tumour nature.
