RESUMO

Altogether 93 patients with autoimmune thyroiditis were investigated. A great variability of the functional clinical symptomatology (from thyrotoxicosis up to manifest hypothyroidism) was revealed. Subclinical hypothyroidism was detected in a majority of patients. In some patients the clinical symptoms of thyrotoxicosis were combined with euthyroidism or subclinical hypothyroidism basing on the findings of the hormonal investigation which should be taken into account while choosing therapeutic tactics. Patients with autoimmune thyroiditis demonstrated a preserved circadian rhythm of cortisol secretion. Adrenocorticotropin-zinc-phosphate testing has shown good functional adrenocortical reserves; cortisol secretion did not depend on thyroid function nor did it differ from the indicator in the control group.

RESUMO

A study of somatotropic and gonadotropic functions in male adolescents with functional retardation of physical and sexual development has shown an important role of the deficiency of gonadotropins, especially FSH, in the pathogenesis of this condition. LH secretion in retarded physical development (RPD) is lowered to a lesser degree and positively correlates with testosterone deficiency. The feedback in the hypothalamohypophyseogonadal function in RPD is less frequently affected and to a lesser degree than gonadotropic functions. Of the tested methods (tests with TRH, L-DOPA and bromocriptine) STH reserves are better revealed with L-DOPA and TRH tests, gonadotropic reserves, especially LH,--with TRH and bromocriptine tests. The stimulating TRH effect on the growth hormone is indicative of the versatility and nonspecificity of its action on the pituitary gland in functional developmental disorders.

RESUMO

Altogether 18 female patients and one male patient with autoimmune thyroiditis aged 17 to 57 were investigated before and during thyroidin therapy. A basal raised level of immunoreactive calcitonin (iCT) was revealed in 4 patients, that of immunoreactive parathormone (iPTH) in 11 patients. The authors discussed the causes of the elevation of iCT and iPTH levels in patients with autoimmune thyroiditis. A transient character of a rise of the content of these hormones was noted. The authors suggested that in raised iCT and iPTH levels assessment of C-cell and parathyroid function should be repeated in patients with autoimmune thyroiditis after compensation of the main disease.

RESUMO

The authors presented the results of a study of immunoreactive parathormone and calcitonin in patients with autoimmune thyroiditis. An increase in the content of parathormone in the blood was found in 55.5% of the patients, that of calcitonin in 30.5% of the patients with autoimmune thyroiditis. Correlation between the levels of immunoreactive parathormone and calcitonin in the blood was revealed. A degree of an increase in the levels of parathormone and calcitonin corresponded to the expression of autoimmune reactions in the thyroid. It was proposed that the determination of parathormone and calcitonin be used as an additional criterion in the diagnosis of autoimmune processes in the thyroid and in the determination of their activity.

RESUMO

The authors used combined modality therapy including clinical, laboratory, x-ray, radiological, immunological and histological methods to diagnose autoimmune thyroiditis. Enlargement of the thyroid up to the 3-4 th degree, signs of compression or shift of the trachea and esophagus, the presence of nodes, progressive goiter growth and suspected malignant transformation served as indications for surgical intervention. Subfascial extirpation of the thyroid can be an operation of choice in surgical treatment of Hoshimoto's thyroiditis. A question of the time of surgical intervention cannot be considered completely solved.

RESUMO

Study into the content of vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin and niacin) in groats (whole buckwheat, millet, rice, semolina) and in viscous and friable cereals cooked from them has shown that vitamin losses upon cooking largely depend on the type of culinary treatment. The main factor that determines vitamin losses during cereal cooking is the duration of heat treatment.
