RESUMO

The dynamics of RNA and DNA synthesis as well as the activity of free radical processes in rat liver during the first 40 hours after partial hepatectomy was studied. It was shown that RNA synthesis activation follows the activation of lipid peroxidation (LPO), whereas the DNA synthesis activation follows the decrease of the LPO level. These facts are suggestive of the dependence of the ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) activity on free radical processes. This observation was confirmed by a RNR activity analysis of regenerating liver homogenates. The activity peak was shown to precede the peak of DNA synthesis. Evidence for free radical RNR suppression was also obtained in direct experiments, using intact animal liver homogenates, to which a natural antioxidant (tocopherol) was added.

RESUMO

Increased molar cholesterol/phospholipid ratios, significantly increased membrane microviscosity, reduced filterability through a 3 micron-pore filter, increased aggregation and longer disaggregation time, and occasional abnormally large cells were found in erythrocyte assays of 80 coronary patients, as compared to normal subjects. It is suggested that erythrocyte microrheologic disorders are related to excessive cellular cholesterol content in coronary patients.

RESUMO

Geometric and optical parameters of chromatin of hepatocyte nuclei have been examined before (UV, lambda = 265 nm) and after gallocyanine staining. Quantitative parameters of the chromatin structure in the same nuclei measured in situ by a scanning microscope-photometer (step size 0.125 micron) before and after staining were equal. Tinctorial properties of chromatin granules (condensed part of the nuclear material) and its diffuse part were different. It is suggested that the difference between granules and the nongranular part of chromatin is not only of optical but also of chemical nature.

RESUMO

In 49 patients with panarteritis of the aorta and its branches the reaction of blast-transformation as one of the indicators of the immune system condition, of T-lymphocytes in particular, was studied. A definite significance of the lymphocytes blast-transformation reaction in confirming the autoimmune element in the pathogenesis of panarteritis of the aorta and its branches was established.
