[Local immunity and methods for its assessment upon exposure to ambient air-polluting biologicals].

The investigators studied the impact of biological air contamination by the dusts resulting from protein feedstuff manufacture and grain on local immunity of the mucosae in children and adults living in the areas that were differently distant from industrial objects, the sources of contamination, as well as in workers of the shops contaminated by dust containing various amounts of protein. The studies showed that the workers of a biochemical plant exhibited a considerable change in the majority of immunological parameters (lysozyme activity, heterophile antibody titers, salivary and skin bactericidity, salivary total and R-protein, and immunoglobulins A, M, G, and E). There was a significant decrease in salivary IgA activity. The immunological parameters of children and adults were further compared with their morbidity as the most important health index. It was found that with the production rates being steadily raised, the average annual morbidity increment was 1.3; children less than 14 years of age in whom the incidence of bronchial asthma and bronchitis with asthmatic components increased 5-fold were most susceptible.

The paper deals with a pressing problem: activities of centers of sanitary and epidemiological survey under new economic conditions. The authors discuss problems of centralization and adaptation of sanitary epidemiological service under present-day economic conditions. They analyze the opinions of heads of sanitary epidemiological institutions from various regions of Russia on the present-day status of organization and management of the service. Assessment of the sources of additional financing of the institutions, of new forms of labor organization of departments and specialists, of distribution of additional allotments at sanitary epidemiological institutions is presented. Suggestions on improvement of the activities of institutions engaged in sanitary epidemiological survey under conditions of reformation of sanitary epidemiological service are offered.

Joint effects of lysin, eprin and formaldehyde in acute and subacute experiments were investigated. As shown, this effect can be evaluated as a partial summing with coefficient 1.84.

Data on children's morbidity in the regions with microbiological synthesis enterprises are presented. Significant difference between general and allergic morbidity were found.

In the present work the results of study in functional and metabolic reactivity of protective systems are summarized. The early stages of the biological actions of protein-vitamin concentrates obtained from ethanol utilizing yeasts by means of unified test-system were studied.

[Method of isolating pathogenic enterobacteria from atmospheric air]. / K metodike vydeleniia patogennykh énterobakterii iz atmosfernogo vozdusha

The authors present comparative results of determination of sedimentation and aspiration methods of air pollution by pathogenic enterobacteria during the artificial sewage "raining". Results (in per cent) of isolation of salmonellae from the air by both methods proved to be very close; however, a possibility of isolation of pathogenic bacteria from the air increased with the use of the apparatus for the examination of large air volumes.
