Conservative treatment of displaced fractures of the olecranon in the elderly.

We have analysed the functional results of the conservative treatment of displaced olecranon fractures in 12 patients with a mean age of 81.8 (73-90) years. The patients were evaluated at the time of the final follow up which was 15.2 (6-33) months. Physical examination and radiographic study were performed. None of the patients were limited in their daily activities. 67% of the patients were asymptomatic with an acceptable range of motion of their elbows. The clinical results were good in 8 cases, fair in 3 and poor in one, in spite of 9 cases of pseudoarthrosis. The grade of satisfaction was excellent in 11 patients and bad in only one. Conservative treatment of displaced olecranon fractures provides satisfactory results in old patients.

[Effects of polysaccharide from Thuja occidentale L. on stromal precursor cells of hematopoietic microenvironment in mice]. / Deistvie polisakharida iz Thuja occidentale L na stromal'nye kletki-predshestvenniki krovetvornogo mikrookruzheniia myshi.

The effect of high molecular polysaccharide subfraction from Thuja occidentale L. (TPS) on stromal precursor cells of hematopoietic microenvironment under the "steady-state" conditions and after sublethal irradiation was investigated. The stromal precursor cells of different stages of differentiation were detected by the implantation of mouse bone marrow under the renal capsule of syngeneic intact recipients and chimeras. It was shown that TPS did not occur the toxic influence on the stromal precursor cells and provided the defense effect on them under the strong (6 Gy) radiation damages.

[Use of leukocytes labelled with 99m Technetium sulfide colloids for the detection of experimental aseptic inflammatory foci]. / Utilisation de leucocytes marqués par des colloïdes de sulfure de Technétium 99m pour la détection des foyers inflammatoires aseptiques expérimentaux

The authors propose a technique of labelling of leukocytes based on the phagocytic power of these cells with regard to sulphide particles in the colloidal state labelled with 90mmTc. These labelled leukocytes maintain their normal function and can be detected in the inflammatory foci created in experimental animals in the form of an abscess. Satisfactory results were thus obtained by scintiscanning after auto and allo-transfusion of labelled leukocytes. The role of hyperemia in the results obtained is eliminated by comparative study using non-diffusible vascular tracers. The type of vector, tracer and marker, the innocuity of the method suggest that it may be used in human clinical medicine for the early diagnosis of certain inflammatory foci.
