Fundamento: la parálisis cerebral es un motivo de gran preocupación para los familiares, constituye la discapacidad física más frecuente de la niñez y es la causa más usual de consulta en Ortopedia Infantil por trastorno neurológico. Objetivo: evaluar la técnica de Hsu en el tratamiento del pie equino espástico en paciente con parálisis cerebral. Métodos: se realizó un estudio longitudinal y descriptivo en 29 pacientes con el diagnóstico de pie equino espástico tratados con la técnica de Hsu en el servicio de Ortopedia y Traumatología del Hospital Pediátrico Universitario Eduardo Agramonte Piña desde mayo 2011 hasta mayo 2014, para evaluar los resultados obtenidos con esta técnica. Resultados: predominaron los pacientes del sexo masculino, la deformidad bilateral, los menores de cinco años de edad y la causa perinatal. Los resultados fueron satisfactorios en la mayoría de los casos y las complicaciones todas menores. Conclusiones: la técnica de Hsu es una buena opción terapéutica en pacientes con pie equino espástico y parálisis cerebral, por ser un procedimiento sencillo, por sus escasas complicaciones y buenos resultados quirúrgicos.


Background: cerebral palsy is a major concern for family, is the most common physical disability in childhood and is the most common cause of consultation in pediatric orthopedics by neurological disorder. Objective: to evaluate the technique of Hsu in the treatment of the equine spastic foot of patient with cerebral paralysis. Methods: was carried out a longitudinal and descriptive study in 29 patients with the diagnosis of foot spastic equine treaties with the technique of Hsu in the service of Orthopedics and Traumatologic of the Pediatric University Hospital Eduardo Agramonte Piña, from May 2011 until May 2014 to evaluate the results obtained with this technique. Results prevailed the patients of the masculine sex with bilateral deformity, smaller than five years and perinatal etiologic. The results were satisfactory in most of the cases and the complications were all smaller. Conclusions: the technique of Hus is a therapeutic good option in patient with equine spastic foot with cerebral paralysis, to be a simple procedure, for its scarce complications and surgical good results.

Fundamento: las fracturas proximales de húmero en niños incluyen la epífisis y las metafisiarias, que son lesiones poco frecuente durante la infancia. Objetivo: evaluar el comportamiento de los niños con fracturas del extremo proximal del húmero. Métodos: se realizó un estudio longitudinal y descriptivo en 43 pacientes con el diagnóstico de fracturas del húmero proximal, atendidos por el servicio de Ortopedia y Traumatología del Hospital Pediátrico Universitario Eduardo Agramonte Piña, desde marzo 2011 hasta marzo 2014. Resultados: las fracturas del húmero proximal predominaron en los varones entre 10 y 13 años y el traumatismo por accidente en el hogar, las epifisiolisis fueron más frecuente en la segunda década de la vida y las meafisarias en la primera, el tratamiento conservador fue el más usado en la mayor parte de los pacientes con resultados satisfactorios y las complicaciones fueron mínimas. Conclusiones: las lesiones de la epífisis humeral superior pueden ocurrir en cualquier edad, mientras esté abierta la fisis, tienen una evolución benigna, por el alto potencial de remodelación de la epífisis.


Background: proximal humerus fractures are less frequent during childhood. They account for less than 5 % of all pediatric fractures. Objective: to evaluate the behavior of children with proximal end of humerus fracture. Methods: a descriptive and longitudinal study was conducted with 43 patients with the diagnosis of proximal end of humerus fracture. They were given medical attention at the pediatric hospital Eduardo Agramonte Piña, between March 2011 and March 2014, in order to assess the obtained results of the behavior of this disease. Results: proximal humerus fractures prevailed in boys of the 10 to 13 age group. Traumatisms caused by house accidents, epiphysiolysis were more frequent in the second decade of life, whereas metaphyseals were in the first decade. Conservative treatment was the most used in most of the patients with satisfactory outcomes. Complications were minimal. Conclusions: humeral epiphysis lesions may occur at any age. They have a benign evolution, due to the high potential of epiphysis remodeling.

RESUMO

Traditional chemotherapeutic drugs remain the major treatment for advanced colorectal cancer. However, due to the lack of tumor specificity these drug also destroy healthy tissue and organs, which has been the main reason for treatment failure and mortality. Folate-based drug delivery systems for improving nanoparticle endocytosis have been used to address these problems. Here, folic acid (FA) conjugated mPEG-b-P(CABCL-co-ACL) diblock copolymers were synthesized and characterized by TEM and NMR. Drug loaded nanoparticles were prepared using dialysis method and was obtained with a mean diameter of 45.2 nm with sustained in vitro release profile. In vitro cytotoxicity assay indicated that the cytotoxicity of folate modified nanoparticles were significantly increased compared to free drug and non-folate nanoparticles. In addition, results of hemolytic and histopathologic study suggested that the non-loaded nanoparticle (NL/NP) was non-toxic and biocompatible at the testing concentration. Moreover, in vivo results showed that FA/5-FU/NP effectively inhibited growth of HCT-8 cell-based xenograft tumors in BALB/c mice and revealed stronger antitumor efficacy than other treated groups. Thus, both in vitro and in vivo results exhibited that the folate conjugated mPEG-b-P(CABCL-co-ACL) copolymers have great potential to be used as sustainable and specific colon cancer targeting delivery system for anticancer agents.
