RESUMO

Owning to limited supply of lithium for Li-ion batteries, the development of non-Li-ion batteries (such as Na+, K+Mg2+, Ca2+, and Al3+ion batteries) has attracted significant research interest. In this work, by means of the first-principles calculations, we systematically investigated the performance of chalcogenide-terminated MXenes Ti2CT2(T = O, S, Se, and Te) as electrodes for Li-ion and non-Li-ion batteries, as well as the layer-stacking and electronic properties of Ti2CT2. We find that the stacking type of O and Te terminated Ti2C multilayers with AA stacking differs from that of S and Se terminated Ti2C multilayers with AB stacking. More importantly, Ti2CO2monolayer can be potential anode material for Na- and K-ion batteries with high capacities and very low diffusion barriers (0.03-0.11 eV), while Ti2CS2and Ti2CSe2are promising anode materials with relatively low average open circuit voltages (OCVs) for Na-, K-, and Ca-ion batteries (0.4-0.87 V). Among these materials, Ti2CS2exhibits the largest ion capacity of 616 mAh g-1. These results of our work may inspire further studies of Ti2C-MXenes multilayers as electrodes for metal-ion batteries either experimentally or theoretically.

RESUMO

Increasing incidence of metabolic disturbances has become a severe public healthcare problem. Ion channels and receptors in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) of the hypothalamus serve vital roles in modulating neuronal activities and endocrine functions, which are linked to the regulation of energy balance and glucose metabolism. In this study, we found that acid-sensing ion channel 1a (ASIC1a), a Ca2+-permeable cationic ion channel was localized in the PVN. Knockdown of ASIC1a in this region led to significant body weight gain, glucose intolerance, and insulin resistance. Pharmacological inhibition of ASIC1a resulted in an increase in food intake and a decrease in energy expenditure. Our findings suggest ASIC1a in the PVN as a potential new target for the therapeutic intervention of metabolic disorders.

RESUMO

Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (P-NETs) secreting ectopic adrenocorticotropic hormones (ACTH) are rare and often delayed in diagnosis due to their atypical clinical characteristics. Here, we describe a case of P-NET in the pancreatic tail. The tumor had metastasized to the liver and secreted gastrin and ACTH. A 60-year-old female patient was diagnosed with gastrinoma in the pancreatic tail with liver metastases in 2015. After 3 months, the patient presented refractory hypokalemia and thyroid dysfunction. The final diagnosis was P-NET with ectopic ACTH syndrome (EAS). After cytoreductive surgery and the use of long-acting somatostatin analogs, plasma potassium levels and thyroid function were effectively corrected. Although Sandostatin LAR® Depot and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) were used throughout the follow-up period, the tumor relapsed 4 years later. After aggressive treatment, including right hepatectomy, microwave coagulation of the left liver, and cholecystectomy, the tumor returned 4 months later. Finally, the patient underwent three hepatic artery embolizations and 12 courses of CAPTEM regimen chemotherapy. The markers of disease were almost maintained in the normal ranges until now. We have followed up on this case for more than 5 years. A timely and comprehensive examination of hormones and immunohistochemistry is essential. The prognosis of P-NET is poor. Regular long-term follow-up and the application of combined therapies are helpful to control the disease and improve the prognosis.

RESUMO

In this Letter, a two-dimensional (2D) beam steering on silicon nitride (SiNx) nanophotonic phased arrays from visible to near-infrared wavelengths is reported for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. In order to implement beam steering along the transverse direction for one-dimensional waveguide surface grating arrays, wavelengths from 650 to 980 nm provided by the supercontinuum laser are used to excite the phased array. Then the beams are parallel radiated with steering angles in a sequence of 26.84° to -16.54∘ along the transverse direction, and a continuous line in the far field consisting of parallel emitted spots is produced with a total view angle of 43.38°. Moreover, this continuous far-field line is steered along the longitudinal direction with massive wavelengths simultaneously tuned by phase shifts from -π/2 to over +π/2. This method with massive parallel wavelengths emitted paves a new way for 2D steering on SiNx nanophotonic phased arrays.

RESUMO

We report a simple concept to implement a single-wavelength beam steering based on a liquid-cladded one-dimensional (1D) optical phased array (OPA). The beam steering was realized by modifying the waveguide mode effective index through replacing the liquid upper claddings. A prototype of a 32-channel liquid-cladded OPA was fabricated and characterized. Owing to the high refractive index range of liquids (>0.625), a maximum steering angle of >10∘ was achieved with the liquid range from 1.0 to 1.63 at a wavelength of 940 nm. Moreover, the liquid-cladded OPA reveals a quasi-continuous beam steering range of >29∘ by combining the liquid cladding tuning and discrete wavelength tuning of λ=785nm, 852 nm, and 940 nm. Further integration with optofluidic systems offers the OPA potential for low power consumption and all-fluidic beam steering operating at a single wavelength.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) tessellation of organic species acquired increased interests recently because of their potential applications in physics, biology, and chemistry. 2D tessellations have been successfully constructed on surfaces via various intermolecular interactions. However, the transformation between 2D tessellation lattices has been rarely reported. Herein, we successfully fabricated two types of Kagome lattices on Cu(111). The former phase exhibits (3,6,3,6) Kagome lattices, which are stabilized via the intermolecular hydrogen bond interactions. The latter phase is formed through direct chemical transferring from the former one maintaining almost the same Kagome lattices, except for that the unit cell rotates for 4°. Detailed scanning tunneling microscopy and density functional calculation studies reveal that the chemical transformation is achieved by the formation of the N-Cu-N metal-organic bonds via dehydrogenation reactions of the amines.

RESUMO

Osteocalcin is a bone-derived hormone that plays an important role in the crosstalk between bone and energy metabolism. Previous studies have found that treatment with uncarboxylated osteocalcin can protect mice from high-fat diet-induced nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, the potential mechanisms remain unclear. Although the G protein-coupled receptor family C group 6 subtype A (GPRC6A) is the putative receptor of osteocalcin, there is no direct evidence showing that GPRC6A mediates the effects of uncarboxylated osteocalcin in alleviating NAFLD in mice. We aimed to figure out this using liver-specific GPRC6A knockout (GPRC6ALKO) mice. Consistent with previous studies, uncarboxylated osteocalcin significantly protected high-fat diet-fed wild-type mice from obesity and NAFLD, while it did not protect high-fat diet-fed GPRC6ALKO mice from NAFLD. Differential mRNA expression of lipogenesis and lipolysis between GPRC6ALKO mice and control mice revealed that GPRC6A mediated the effects of osteocalcin in alleviating NAFLD through inhibiting lipid synthesis and promoting lipolysis. In conclusion, this study found that uncarboxylated osteocalcin alleviates NAFLD in mice through the GPRC6A signaling pathway. Our study suggests that liver GPRC6A may be a potential target for treating NAFLD.

RESUMO

Previous studies found that thyroid hormones stimulate osteoblast-like cells to secrete osteocalcin. We aimed to investigate the association between serum thyroid hormone and serum osteocalcin in euthyroid population. The study recruited 1152 community-based euthyroid subjects (average age 59 ± 8 years), among whom 677 were women. Serum free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), and osteocalcin were measured by electrochemiluminescence immunoassays. After adjusting for age and gender, partial correlation analysis showed that FT3 and FT3/FT4 were both positively correlated with body mass index (BMI) and serum osteocalcin levels (all P < 0.05) and BMI was negatively correlated with serum osteocalcin levels (P < 0.01), while FT4 and TSH were not correlated with serum osteocalcin levels (all P > 0.05). Age, gender, blood pressure, thyroid hormones, and multiple metabolic risk factors were included in the ridge regression model. FT3 and FT3/FT4 were independently and positively associated with serum osteocalcin levels (all P < 0.05), while BMI was independently and negatively associated with serum osteocalcin levels (P < 0.01). The mediating effect model showed that FT3 and FT3/FT4 suppressed the negative association between BMI and serum osteocalcin levels, with suppressing effects of 6.41% and 10.39%, respectively. In euthyroid subjects, both FT3 and FT3/FT4 were positively associated with serum osteocalcin levels, and they further suppressed the negative association between BMI and serum osteocalcin levels.

RESUMO

Background: The efficacy and safety of transcatheter aortic-valve replacement (TAVR) vs. surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) for low- to intermediate-surgical risk patients remains uninvestigated. Objectives: We aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of transcatheter aortic-valve replacement (TAVR) vs. surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) for low-intermediate surgical risk patients. Methods: PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase databases were searched to identify potential references. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) or observational studies using propensity score matching were eligible for screening. The primary endpoint was all-cause death. The secondary outcomes were bleeding, stroke, myocardial infarction (MI), and other complications of aortic-valve replacement. In addition, we performed subgroup analysis based on surgical risk and study type. Results: Eight RCTs and 13 observational studies covering 12,467 patients were included in the current meta-analysis. For patients with low-surgical risk, compared with SAVR, TAVR was found to be associated with a lower mortality at a follow-up period of 1 year (odds ratio, OR: 0.66, 95% CI: [0.46, 0.96], P = 0.03). This benefit disappeared when the follow-up was extended to 2 years (OR: 0.89, 95% CI: [0.61, 1.30], P = 0.56). For patients with intermediate-surgical risk, TAVR showed to have similar mortality with SAVR regardless of follow-up period (30-day, 1-year, or 2-year). TAVR could reduce the incidence of bleeding, AF, and AKI. For complications, such as MI and stroke, TAVR exhibited to have similar safety with SAVR. However, TAVR was found to be associated with a higher incidence of reintervention, major vascular complication, paravalvular leak, and PPI. Conclusion: For patients with a low-to-intermediate surgical risk, TAVR has at least an equivalent clinical effect to SAVR for 2 years after the procedure.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Visceral fat is an independent risk factor for metabolic and cardiovascular disease. The study aimed to investigate the associations between gut microbiome and visceral fat. METHODS: We recruited 32 obese adults and 30 healthy controls at baseline. Among the obese subjects, 14 subjects underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) and were followed 6 months after surgery. Abdominal visceral fat area (VFA) and subcutaneous fat area (SFA) were measured by magnetic resonance imaging. Waist, hipline, waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) and body mass index (BMI) were included as simple obese parameters. Gut microbiome was analyzed by metagenomic sequencing. RESULTS: Among the obese parameters, VFA had the largest number of correlations with the species that were differentially enriched between obese and healthy subjects, following by waist, WHR, BMI, hipline, and SFA. Within the species negatively correlated with VFA, Eubacterium eligens had the strongest correlation, following by Clostridium citroniae, C. symbiosum, Bacteroides uniformis, E. ventriosum, Ruminococcaceae bacterium D16, C. hathewayi, etc. C. hathewayi and C. citroniae were increased after LSG. Functional analyses showed that among all the obese parameters, VFA had strongest correlation coefficients with the obesity-related microbial pathways. Microbial pathways involved in carbohydrate fermentation and biosynthesis of L-glutamate and L-glutamine might contribute to visceral fat accumulation. CONCLUSIONS: Visceral fat was more closely correlated with gut microbiome compared with subcutaneous fat, suggesting an intrinsic connection between gut microbiome and metabolic cardiovascular diseases. Specific microbial species and pathways which were closely associated with visceral fat accumulation might contribute to new targeted therapies for metabolic disorders.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have an increased risk of fracture compared with those without T2DM. Some oral glucose-lowering agents may increase the incidence of fracture. Whether sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) are associated with increased risk of fracture remains unclear. METHODS: We retrieved articles from PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library database, and other sources up to 24 October 2019. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that reported fractures and analyzed the fracture incidence of SGLT2i, canagliflozin, dapagliflozin, and empagliflozin. Subgroup analysis was also performed based on baseline characteristics. RESULTS: A total of 78 RCTs with 85,122 patients were included in our analysis. The overall SGLT2i fracture incidence was 2.56% versus 2.77% in the control group [odds ratio (OR), 1.03; 95% confidence interval (CI) (0.95, 1.12); p = 0.49]. Compared with the control treatment, treatment with canagliflozin led to a higher rate of fractures [OR, 1.17; 95% CI (1.00, 1.37); p = 0.05], but no significant difference was observed when compared with dapagliflozin [OR, 1.02; 95% CI (0.90, 1.15); p = 0.79] or empagliflozin [OR, 0.89; 95% CI (0.73, 1.10); p = 0.30]. Subgroup analysis showed that, in a follow-up of less than 52 weeks, SGLT2i decreased the incidence of fracture by 29% [OR, 0.71; 95% CI (0.55, 0.93); p = 0.01], but this benefit was lost when the follow-up extended to more than 52 weeks [OR, 1.08; 95% CI (0.98, 1.18); p = 0.12]. CONCLUSION: Canagliflozin seems to increase the risk of fracture, while other SGLT2is do not result in a higher incidence of fracture.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Obesity is closely related to thyroid hormones; however, the relationship between abdominal fat distribution and thyroid hormones has rarely been explored. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to explore the relationship between abdominal fat distribution and free triiodothyronine (FT3) and FT3 to free thyroxine (FT4) ratio (FT3/FT4) in a euthyroid population. METHODS: The present study enrolled 1,036 participants (age range 27-81 years; 445 men and 591 women). The visceral fat area (VFA) and the subcutaneous fat area (SFA) were determined by magnetic resonance imaging. FT3, FT4, and thyroid-stimulating hormone were measured by an electrochemical luminescence immunoassay. RESULTS: In both men and women, SFA increased according to the increase of FT3 and FT3/FT4 tertiles (p for trend <0.05), while VFA did not significantly change. In the multivariate stepwise regression analysis, SFA was independently and positively related to FT3 in both men and women, the standardized ß (95% CI) were 0.183 (0.094, 0.272) (p < 0.001) and 0.089 (0.007, 0.171) (p = 0.033), respectively. Moreover, SFA was independently and positively related to FT3/FT4 in men, the standardized ß (95% CI) was 0.196 (0.101, 0.290) (p < 0.001). However, VFA was not related to either FT3 or FT3/FT4 in both genders. CONCLUSIONS: Abdominal subcutaneous fat was independently related to increased FT3 in a euthyroid population.

RESUMO

Background: Serum adipocyte fatty acid-binding protein (A-FABP) and thyroid hormones are closely associated with metabolic disorders; however, their relationship remains unknown. We aimed at investigating the associations of serum A-FABP levels with single and composite indices of the thyroid system. Methods: The study included 1057 community-based euthyroid participants (age range: 27-81 years) in Shanghai, among whom 601 were women. Serum free triiodothyronine (fT3), free thyroxine (fT4), and thyrotropin (TSH) were measured by electrochemical luminescence immunoassay. The thyroid feedback quantile-based index (TFQI), thyrotropin index (TSHI), and thyrotroph thyroxine resistance index (TT4RI) were calculated to evaluate central sensitivity to thyroid hormones. Peripheral sensitivity to thyroid hormones was evaluated by the fT3 to fT4 ratio (fT3/fT4). Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to measure serum A-FABP levels. Results: Serum A-FABP levels were 6.41 [95% confidence interval: 6.10-6.74] ng/mL among all subjects. Multiple cardiovascular metabolic risk factors were adjusted in the multivariate linear regression analysis and the multinomial logistic regression analysis (nonordinal). In both sexes, serum A-FABP levels were positively associated with fT4 (men: standardized ß = 0.150, p = 0.001; women: standardized ß = 0.218, p < 0.001), TFQI (men: standardized ß = 0.119, p = 0.009; women: standardized ß = 0.165, p < 0.001), and TSHI (men: standardized ß = 0.108, p = 0.017; women: standardized ß = 0.114, p = 0.005); while they were negatively associated with fT3/fT4 (men: standardized ß = -0.122, p = 0.008; women: standardized ß = -0.129, p = 0.001). Serum A-FABP levels were not associated with fT3, TSH, or TT4RI. Compared with the first quartile group of TFQI, for every 10 ng/mL increase in A-FABP, the odds ratio (OR) for the third quartile group of TFQI was 2.213 in women (p = 0.035); the ORs for the fourth quartile group of TFQI were 2.614 in men (p = 0.022) and 3.425 in women (p = 0.002). Conclusions: In a euthyroid population, increased serum A-FABP levels were associated with decreased sensitivity to thyroid hormones, suggesting that A-FABP may mediate the "cross-talk" between adipose tissue and the thyroid system.

RESUMO

This project aims to evaluate the methods and reporting quality of practice guidelines of five different viruses that have caused Public Health Emergencies of International Concern (PHEIC) over 20 past years: the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), Ebola virus, Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), Zika virus and the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). We systematically searched databases, guideline websites and government health agency websites from their inception to February 02, 2020 to extract practice guidelines for SARS-CoV, Ebola virus, MERS-CoV, Zika virus, SARS-CoV-2 and the diseases they caused. The literature was screened independently by four researchers. Then, fifteen researchers evaluated the quality of included guidelines using the AGREE-II (Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II, for methodological quality) instrument and RIGHT (Reporting Items for practice Guidelines in Healthcare, for reporting quality) statement. Finally, a total of 81 guidelines were included, including 21 SARS-CoV guidelines, 11 Ebola virus (EBOV) guidelines, 9 MERS-CoV guidelines, 10 Zika Virus guidelines and 30 SARS-CoV-2 guidelines. The evaluation of the methodological quality indicated that the mean scores of each domain for guidelines of each virus were all below 60%, the scores for guidelines in the domains of "clarity of presentation" being the highest and in the "editorial independence" lowest. The mean reporting rate of each domain for guidelines of each virus was also less than 60%: the reporting rates for the domain "background" were highest, and for the domain "funding and interests" lowest. The methodological and reporting quality of the practice guidelines for SARS-CoV, Ebola virus, MERS-CoV, Zika virus and SARS-CoV-2 guidelines tend to be low. We recommend to follow evidence-based methodology and the RIGHT statement on reporting when developing guidelines.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Although overt thyroid dysfunction has been found to influence the level of glycated albumin (GA), the associations between thyroid hormones and GA in individuals with euthyroidism and subclinical hypothyroidism (SHypo) are still unknown. The present study aimed to investigate whether thyroid hormones were related to GA in euthyroid and SHypo individuals. METHODS: We recruited 685 euthyroid and 103 SHypo subjects with normal weight from communities in Shanghai. Electrochemiluminescence immunoassay was used to detect the serum levels of free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4) and thyroid stimulating hormone. GA was detected by the enzymatic method. Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) was detected by high-performance liquid chromatography. RESULTS: Among the 788 subjects (age range 31-81 years old), 307 were men and 481 were women. In the Spearman correlation analysis and multiple stepwise regression analysis, FT3 was negatively correlated with both GA and GA/HbA1c in euthyroid subjects (all P < 0.05). The values of GA and GA/HbA1c were reduced by approximately 0.30 and 0.05, respectively, for each 0.50 pmol/L increment in FT3. In SHypo subjects, FT4 was negatively associated with both GA and GA/HbA1c (all P < 0.05). The values of GA and GA/HbA1c were reduced by approximately 0.23 and 0.03, respectively, for each 1.00 pmol/L increment in FT4. CONCLUSION: In euthyroid and SHypo subjects, more attention should be paid to the potential effects of individual differences in thyroid hormones on GA.

RESUMO

Aim: Metabolically healthy obese (MHO) individuals have attracted broad attention. We aimed to investigate the characteristics of serum thyroid hormones in different metabolic phenotypes of obesity. Methods: The study included 1,023 community-based euthyroid subjects (age range: 27-81 years), of whom 586 were women. Fat% was detected by a bioelectrical impedance analyzer. Two definitions of obesity were applied as follows: (1) fat% ≥ 25% for men and ≥ 30% for women; (2) body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25 kg/m2. According to the diagnostic criteria for metabolic syndrome by the Chinese Diabetes Society, metabolically unhealthy was defined as two or more components of metabolic syndrome, excluding waist circumference. Serum-free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels were measured by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay. Results: The proportions of obesity defined by fat% and BMI were 41.3 and 27.1%, respectively. The proportion of metabolically unhealthy was 41.6%. After adjusting for age and gender, regardless of the definitions based on fat% or BMI, FT3 was positively related to both the MHO and the metabolically unhealthy obese (MUO) phenotypes [MHO: odds ratio (OR)s = 1.676 based on fat% and 2.055 based on BMI; MUO: ORs = 1.818 based on fat% and 1.526 based on BMI; all P < 0.05]; FT4 was negatively related to the MUO phenotype (ORs = 0.870 based on fat% and 0.849 based on BMI, all P < 0.05); FT3/FT4 was also positively related to both the MHO and the MUO phenotypes (MHO: ORs = 1.678 based on fat% and 2.825 based on BMI; MUO: ORs = 2.866 based on fat% and 2.883 based on BMI; all P < 0.05); and TSH was positively related to the metabolically unhealthy non-obese phenotype (ORs = 1.329 based on fat% and 1.321 based on BMI, all P < 0.01). Conclusions: In euthyroid population, both the MHO and the MUO phenotypes were characterized by increased FT3 and FT3/FT4 levels.

RESUMO

MXenes, two-dimensional (2D) layered transition metal carbide/nitride materials with a lot of advantages including high carrier mobility, tunable band gap, favorable mechanical properties and excellent structural stability, have attracted research interest worldwide. It is imperative to accurately understand their electronic and optical properties. Here, the electronic and optical response properties of a Ti2CO2 monolayer, a typical member of MXenes, are investigated on the basis of first-principles calculations including many-body effects. Our results show that the pristine Ti2CO2 monolayer displays an indirect quasi-particle (QP) band gap of 1.32 eV with the conduction band minimum (CBM) located at the M point and valence band maximum (VBM) located at the Γ point. The optical band gap and binding energy of the first bright exciton are calculated to be 1.26 eV and 0.56 eV, respectively. Under biaxial tensile strains, the lowest unoccupied band at the Γ point shifts downward, while the lowest unoccupied band at the M point shifts upward. Then, a direct band gap appears at the Γ point in 6%-strained Ti2CO2. Moreover, the optical band gap and binding energy of the first bright exciton decrease continuously with the increase of the strain due to the increase of the lattice parameter and the expansion of the exciton wave function. More importantly, the absorbed photon flux of Ti2CO2 is calculated to be 1.76-1.67 mA cm-2 with the variation of the strain, suggesting good sunlight optical absorbance. Our work demonstrates that Ti2CO2, as well as other MXenes, hold untapped potential for photo-detection and photovoltaic applications.

PURPOSE: We investigated the safety and efficacy of biodegradable polymer drug-eluting stents (BP-DES) versus second-generation durable polymer drug-eluting stents (DP-DES) in a follow-up period of 5 years. METHODS: A meta-analysis was performed using data from the PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases. The primary endpoint was target lesion failure (TLF), a composite endpoint of safety and efficacy, which included cardiac death, target vessel myocardial infarction (MI), and clinically indicated target lesion revascularization (TLR). Secondary endpoints were all-cause death, MI, TLR, definite or probable stent thrombosis (ST), and definite or probable very late ST. In addition, we performed subgroup analyses based on patient and stent characteristics. RESULTS: Nine randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in 11,817 patients were included in the meta-analysis. Compared with second-generation DP-DES, BP-DES was not associated with increased risk of TLF (odds ratio (OR) 1.06, 95 % confidence interval [CI] 0.94-1.20; p = 0.33), all-cause death (OR 1.04, [0.92-1.18], p = 0.49), myocardial infarction (OR 0.97, [0.83-1.13], p = 0.67), target lesion revascularization (OR 1.08, [0.94-1.23], p = 0.27), definite or probable stent thrombosis (OR 0.85, [0.66-1.11], p = 0.24), or definite or probable very late stent thrombosis (OR 0.86, [0.58-1.26],p = 0.43). Furthermore, the subgroup analyses did not reveal any statistically significant differences between the stent groups. CONCLUSION: At 5 years of follow-up, the safety and efficacy of BP-DES are clinically comparable to those of second-generation DP-DES.

RESUMO

Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients treated with dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) show individual differences in platelet reactivity (PR). Here, we aim to find differences in the platelet microRNA (miRNA) expression profiles of high PR and low PR patients to serve as potential biomarkers. ADP-induced platelet aggregation (PAG) was used to determine PR. High-throughput sequencing technology was used to profile differentially expressed platelet miRNAs in high PR (PAG>50%) and low PR (PAG≤50%) patients. We used real-time quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reactions (RT-qPCR) to validate the sequencing results. Finally, we statistically evaluated the diagnostic value of the miRNAs and explored their molecular function using bioinformatic analysis. The results show that miR-204-5p was confirmed to be significantly upregulated in the high PR group. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of miR-204-5p was 0.667, and its expression significantly correlated with the Gensini score. Stepwise binary logistic regression analysis suggested that miR-204-5p expression level was an independent predictor of PR. Furthermore, bioinformatic analysis showed that miR-204-5p may be associated with platelet synapse formation and platelet vesicle release. Our data indicates that platelet miR-204-5p may serve as a novel biomarker of PR to guide treatment with antiplatelet drugs.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: A high level of free triiodothyronine (FT3) within the reference range may be a potential metabolic risk marker. However, the relationship between different fat depots and FT3 has remained unclear. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to explore the relationships between segmental fat distribution and FT3 in euthyroid middle-aged and elderly men and postmenopausal women. METHODS: A total of 891 subjects (394 men and 497 women) were enrolled. A bioelectrical impedance analyzer was used to measure total, trunk, arm and leg fat mass (FM) and fat percentage (fat%). The leg fat mass to trunk fat mass ratio (LTR) was calculated to evaluate the relative distribution of leg fat compared with that of trunk fat. Thyroid hormones were measured by electrochemical luminescence immunoassay. RESULTS: FT3 in men did not change significantly with increases in LTR quartiles, while FT3 in women decreased significantly (P for trend = 0.004). In multivariate linear regression analysis, multiple metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors were adjusted. The LTR was negatively related to FT3 in women (P < 0.05). After further mutual adjustment for trunk fat and leg fat parameters, trunk FM and fat% were positively related to FT3, while leg FM and fat% were negatively related to FT3 in women (all P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: In euthyroid postmenopausal women, trunk fat was positively correlated with FT3, whereas leg fat was negatively correlated with FT3. Our findings supported that a high level of FT3 within the reference range was related to adverse fat distribution.
