RESUMO

Results of multicenter study "Efficacy of Lansoptol (lansoprazole, KRKA) and its influence on the Dynamics of GERD symptoms" (LIEDER) are presented. The impact of 56-days treatment with lansoprazole 30 mg once daily on symptoms relief, a quality of life of 121 patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and healing of esophageal lesions of 30 patients with reflux esophagitis were investigated. Rapid acid inhibition effect of first dose of lansoptol was shown by 48-hr pH-monitoring. At the first day of the treatment 43.1% of patients reported decreasing of intensity of heartburn and 36.5%--of regurgitation. It were shown that the treatment with lansoptol provided symptoms relief in 25% patients at day 3, in 50% of patients at day 5 and in 75% at day 8 for heartburn, and at days 2, 6 and 9--for regurgitation. It was conducted improvement of quality of life. Healing rate of esophagitis at 28 day was 83.3%.

RESUMO

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) was measured in blood-serum of patients with prostatic cancer (PC) from two groups. Group 1 received estrogens, alkylating cytostatic, antracycline antibiotic and antimetabolite; group 2--LH releasing hormone (RHLH) analog. The immunochemical test was made weekly for 52 weeks. Group 2 patients had a high PSA level reaching maximum on week 6 (59.32 +/- 5.37 microg/l). After that, the PSA level decreased. The initial level was reached on week 17. On week 52 a mean PSA concentration made up 16.78 +/- 1.88 micrograms/l. As to group 1, no trend to serum PSA elevation was seen for two weeks, than it slowly rose and on week 8 it converted to plateau (mean level 51.5 micrograms/l). Lowering occurred slowly beginning on week 19. The initial level was reached only on the treatment week 30-31 being to the end of the treatment 22.06 +/- 1.53 micrograms/l. Assay for other cancer markers detected elevation of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) in 21.8% of group 1 patients after 21-22 weeks of the treatment. Serum level of PSA is recommended for control over chemotherapy of prostatic cancer. The role of drugs in induction of AFP resynthesis is not discussed.

RESUMO

It was found that the irradiation with in vitro UVC (254 nm) in the dose range of 6-600 J/m2 accelerates the apoptosis of human peripheral blood neutrophils in a dose-dependent manner, with saturation occurring at UVC doses of 250-300 J/m2. gamma-Irradiation with a dose of 2 Gy accelerates the apoptosis of neutrophils, whereas the irradiation with doses of 10 and 20 Gy suppresses it (by 9 h of cultivation). Lipopolysaccharide (1 microgram/ml) suppresses the UVC-induced apoptosis of neutrophils.

RESUMO

Spermoplasm of 21 fertile and 96 subfertile males was examined for Fe, transferrin and scaferrin the concentrations of which were compared to 14 morphofunctional and physicochemical parameters of ejaculate fertility. Fe and non-hemic spermoplasm ferroproteins are involved in male reproduction: participate in ejaculate thinning, in formation of viscosity and sperm pH, are important for normal spermatogenesis and intercellular interactions. The findings can be applied in diagnosis of male subfertility and control of ongoing treatment, hold promise for improvement of fertilizing ability of the sperm used for artificial insemination and extracorporeal fertilization.

RESUMO

The authors suggest a simple and convenient procedure for measuring acute-phase proteins, lactoferrin, fibrinogen and its degradation products, in mixed human saliva by the agar immunodiffusion test with appropriate monospecific antisera. Examinations of 1205 salivary samples have revealed that salivary fibrinogen degradation products and lactoferrin detection rates do not depend on the subject's sex but are growing with age and intensity of the aggressive admixture effects in inhaled air; they are also related to the intensity of the inflammatory and proliferative processes in the oral cavity and bronchopulmonary system, the values varying from 4-16 percent in health to 68.8-71.8 percent in disease. In monitoring salivary acute-phase proteins detection rates make up 100 percent in the patients and 0-4 percent in normal subjects. The authors come to a conclusion that measurements of salivary acute-phase proteins may be used in screening of the population to detect subjects at risk for further diagnostic examinations.

RESUMO

The content of normal serum proteins, acute phase (C-reactive protein, pregnancy-associated alpha 2-glycoprotein) and tissue proteins (ferritin, nonspecific tissue esterase) was studied in the sputum of 256 patients with different pulmonary pathology, over time using immunochemical methods. Protein elimination with the sputum was shown to depend upon the nature and gravity of bronchitis and pulmonary destruction. Analysis of the qualitative composition of the sputum proteins and their content can be used in pulmonology for differential diagnosis and assessment of a course of pulmonary diseases.
