[Photodynamic therapy in the treatment of diseases of the anterior and posterior eye segments]. / Primenenie fotodinamicheskoi terapii v lechenii zabolevanii perednego i zadnego otrezka glaza.

The article deals with the use of photodynamic therapy with regard for the modern choice of photosensitizing preparations and with regard for new-generation lasers, which reveal, to a full extent, the possibilities of the above treatment method. Examples of using the photodynamic therapy in the treatment of some oncology pathologies of various localizations, including the ocular pathologies, are depicted in the article. The use of photodynamic therapy at retinal diseases, caused by the onset of new-vascular membranes due to the age-related degeneration of the macular, is under discussion. The application of photodynamic therapy in the treatment of cystic filtration cushions, involving the technique offered by the authors, is described.

[Treatment of inflammatory conditions of the iris and ciliary body, accompanying fibrin exudation]. / Lechenie vospalitel'nykh sostoianii raduzhki i tsiliarnogo tela, soprovozhdaiushchikhsia fibrinoidnoi ékssudatsiei.

The paper presents a description of a new method for treatment of iris and ciliary body inflammation accompanied with fibrin exudation. We used low-level blue laser destroying a fibrin clot in its initial stage of formation. We also used herapin and ascorbic acid. In the absence of the greatest impact urokinase was additionally administered.

[Treatment of solitary subconjunctival cysts of filtration pad after fistulizing surgery of glaucoma]. / Lechenie solitarnykh subkon"iunktival'nykh kist fil'tratsionnoi podushechki posle fistuliziruiushchikh antiglaukomatoznykh operatsii.

The clinical picture and cytostatic treatment of solitary subconjunctival cysts of filtration pad after fistula-forming antiglaucoma surgery are described. Twenty-seven eyes with hypertension which developed as a result of subconjunctival cysts formed in the early postoperative period in 7% of patients operated on for open-angle glaucoma. Probable mechanisms of the pathogenesis of the formation of solitary cysts are discussed and 3-staged therapy proposed, including beta-blockers, perforation of the cyst wall by YAG laser, and, in 10% of cases with rigid cysts, microsurgical revision of filtration pad.

[The laser correction of recurrent elevated intraocular pressure after a surgical operation to control glaucoma complicated by the blocking of the postoperative fistula by the root of the iris]. / Lazernaia korrektsiia retsidiva povysheniia vnurtriglaznogo davleniia posle antiglaukomatoznoi khirurgicheskoi operatsii, oslozhnennoi blokadoi posleoperatsionnoi fistuly kornem raduzhki.

Laser intervention was carried out in 18 patients (18 eyes) with open-angle glaucoma and decompensated intraocular pressure, that developed in 2 weeks--5 years after primary antiglaucoma surgery. Developed glaucoma stage was diagnosed in 16 eyes, in 2 eyes far-advanced condition was found. Blocking of the fistula by the iridal root was responsible for the inefficacy of fistulizing surgery. Laser trabeculoplasty to compensate for the intraocular pressure was carried out in 18 eyes, in 9 eyes this treatment was combined with gonioplasty. Stable normalization of intraocular pressure was observed in 13 eyes in remote periods after laser coagulation. Analysis of the results has brought the authors to a conclusion that the administered laser trabeculoplasty as an individual treatment modality and in combination with gonioplasty is fairly effective, results in prolonged compensation of the ophthalmic tone, and is altogether less traumatic than repeated surgery.

[Laser correction of recurrence of increased intraocular pressure after surgical valvular sinuso-trabeculectomy]. / Lazernaia korrektsiia retsidiva povysheniia vnutriglaznogo davleniia posle khirurgicheskoi klapannoi sinusotrabekuléktomii.

Wise's laser trabeculoplasty with a 270 degrees exposure was used in 22 eyes of 22 patients with operated-on decompensated glaucoma. Patients with elevated decompensated intraocular pressure after sinusotrabeculoctomy were included in this group. The postoperative fistula was located in front of the Schlemm's canal in them. A dynamic follow-up has shown a stable normalization of the ophthalmic tone in 62% of cases without maintenance therapy. As a repeated intervention, laser trabeculoplasty is less traumatic, yields a good therapeutic effect, and may be widely used as a method to correct elevated intraocular pressure after earlier sinusotrabeculectomy.
