RESUMO

Dental examinations were carried out in 208 twins (104 pairs), 60 of these monozygotic and 148 heterozygotic. Anthropometric studies of the diagnostic models of the maxilla were carried out in 78 children. The incidence and structure of maxillodental abnormalities and the specific significance of some of these abnormalities in their total structure in both groups of twins were determined. The degree of differences in pairs of twins was evaluated on the basis of anthropometric parameters and individual abnormalities. The highest level of hereditary influence was observed for the width of dentition and distal occlusion.

RESUMO

Unilateral disturbance of nasal respiration was modeled in albino rats. All animals developed deformations of the skull in the sagittal and transversal planes. The pathogenesis of deformations is connected with neurotrophic disorders and injury to the nasal cartilaginous structures responsible for the skull growth.

RESUMO

Cephalometric analysis of the structure of the skull base in 194 patients aged 7 to 25 with occlusion abnormalities in the sagittal plane showed decreased length of the posterior portion of the skull base and of the size of the basilar angle in progenic occlusion in comparison with that in prognathic occlusion, which is indicative of a reduced activity of the clinoid-occipital synchondrosis in this abnormality. A conclusion is made on a relationship between the formation of occlusion abnormalities and disorders of the growth of the skull base.

RESUMO

Methodological aspects of studies of the prevalence and organization of prevention of maxillodental abnormalities in children are discussed, effects of a number of factors on the incidence of such abnormalities shown. The author emphasizes that prevention of abnormalities should start in early age and be based on an individual approach to a child. A conclusion is made on the necessity of development of a unified program of epidemiological study of abnormalities in the country.

RESUMO

The informative value of maxillodental abnormality risk factors was assessed in 421 children with deciduous occlusion in bits (information units). Sixteen real risk factors were distinguished, whose informative value depended on the type of abnormality. The factors that rank first are as follows: finger sucking, untimely loss of two or more molars and premolars, oral respiration, dummy sucking for more than one year, labor complications. The author claims that study of the informative value of risk factors is conducive to a differentiated approach to elimination of these factors with due consideration for the type of the abnormality.
