RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze serum concentration of ß2-microglobulin (ß2-MG) and C-reactive protein (CRP) in patients on renal replacement therapy for differential diagnosis of uremic pseudoperitonitis and peritonitis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included 76 patients on renal replacement therapy who admitted to the hospital with suspected peritonitis. The control group comprised 60 outpatients on renal replacement therapy. We excluded patients with suspected peritonitis who did not receive previous renal replacement therapy. In both groups, we analyzed serum concentration of ß2-MG and CRP. RESULTS: Among patients with previous renal replacement therapy, the highest concentration of ß2-MG was found in those with suspected uremic pseudoperitonitis, and the highest concentration of CRP was in patients with suspected peritonitis. There were no significant changes in serum concentrations of ß2-MG and CRP in the control group.
