[The role of thymus gland in the regulation of the activity of peripheral T-lymphocytes in the process of spontaneous blastogenesis in mice]. / Uchastie timusa v reguliatsii aktivnosti perifericheskikh T-limfo- tsitov v protsesse spontannogo blastomogeneza u myshei.

The total count, spontaneous proliferation and proliferative response of thymic and spleen T-cells in mixed lymphocyte culture and Con A-induced suppressor activity do not reveal significant disorders in 10-14-month A/Sn and C3H/He mice with spontaneous mammary tumors (weight under 2-3 g). However, these indices are quite different in varying age (2, 6, 12 month) A/Sn mice and C57Bl/6 mice with low rates of spontaneous tumors. The analysis of thymus-dependent immunity changes observed with age shows that relatively intensive migration of nonmature thymocytes, T-suppressor precursors is noted in mice with high cancer incidence. This phenomenon is considered to be one of major mechanisms regulating immune response in spontaneous-carcinogenesis.

The dependence of the neutrophil reaction of the low-tumour strain mice CBA/CaLacY, BALB/cLacY and C57B1/6J on acute hypoxia upon the value of the initial activity (the Wilder-Leites rule is shown. This dependence is disturbed in the high-tumour strain mice AKR/JY and A/SnY. The possible presence of latent immunodeficiency in AKR/JY and A/SnY mice is discussed.

The nonspecific suppressor activity of bone marrow cells (BMC) and spleen cells (SC) of C57B1/6 mice was studied at 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene-induced carcinogenesis. It is established that in the latent period of the tumour development and with its appearance the suppressor activity of BMC decreases, while SC-increases. The activity of the BMC suppressor factor which is determined by the inhibition of proliferation of mastocytoma P-815 cells in vitro did not change significantly.

Female A/Sn mice aged 2-3 and 11-14 months (with spontaneous adenocarcinomas of the mammary gland and tumor-free) and C57Bl/6 mice were followed after treatment with DMBA. Suppressor cells were tested for the ability to inhibit in vivo antibody responses to sheep erythrocytes by adoptively syngeneically transferred cells. It was demonstrated that the activity of nonspecific suppressors of the bone marrow and spleen increases considerably in the precancer period.

Experiments on inbred and noninbred mice showed thymalin to potentiate the therapeutic effect of cytostatic drugs. Thymalin treatment was followed by inhibition of tumor growth and dissemination, increase in the animal's life span and amelioration of antitumor drug-induced immunodepression.

The level of intraleukocytic cationic proteins is studied in rats with the transplanted Pliss lymphosarcoma and sarcoma induced by 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA). The amount of cationic proteins was found to decrease in granulocytes both of mongrel and Wistar rats with transplantable tumours. The phenomenon is typical of the rats with the DMBA-induced tumour.
