RESUMO

The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the effect of kinesiophobia on musculoskeletal pain, physical activity levels, and gestational weight gain in pregnant women. One hundred and sixty-three pregnant women participated in the study by completing a personal characteristics information form along with the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia, the Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire, and the Cornell Musculoskeletal Discomfort Questionnaire. The results showed a weak negative correlation between total physical activity scores and Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia scores (p = .005). Excessive gestational weight gain was associated with a 1.27-fold increase in kinesiophobia and a 1.16-fold increase in musculoskeletal pain compared to adequate weight gain (p < .001). Those with musculoskeletal pain had significantly higher kinesiophobia scores than those without musculoskeletal pain (p = .012). In the pregnant women in this study, an increase in kinesiophobia was associated with a decrease in physical activity. Sedentary and light-intensity activities prevailed among the pregnant women in the study. Musculoskeletal pain and kinesiophobia were associated with excessive weight gain, and those with pain had higher levels of kinesiophobia. Therefore, during pregnancy follow-ups, health professionals should evaluate pregnant women for kinesiophobia, pain, physical activity status, and weight gain.

RESUMO

The aim of the study was to evaluate the self-worth perceptions that can be effective on the physical activity levels of female nursing students. Cross-sectional study was carried out with 311 female nursing students. Data were collected using Personal Information Form, International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form and Women's Physical Activity Self-Worth Inventory. Physical activity levels were low in 28.3 percent of female students, moderate in 58.5 percent and high in 13.2 percent. Based on multinomial logistic regression analysis, Knowledge subscale score was 1.073 times higher in minimally active group and 1.104 times higher in very active group compared to the physically inactive one (p = .021 and p = .037, respectively). IPAQ-SF had weak positive correlations with the total score and Knowledge and Emotional subscale scores of WPASWI. The level of physical activity in female nursing students who will have an important place in encouraging the society about the physical activity in the future was inadequate. Interventions can be planned to provide nursing students with information and emotional support regarding the physical activity self-worth perceptions in order to increase their physical activity levels.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The aim was to investigate the possible associations of suicide attempt with childhood trauma, social support, psychological support seeking, stigmatizations. The study was case-control study and included 100 participants (50 suicide, 50 controls). CONCLUSION: BDI, BAI scores were higher in the patient (p < 0.001). While scores of all-subscales of Childhood-Trauma-Questionnaire were higher (p < 0.05) in the patients, scores of Perceived-Social-Support were lower (p < 0.001). Repeating suicide attempts has higher Stigma-Scale-for-Receiving-Psychological-Help scores than the patients who attempted to the first time (p = 0.045). PRACTICE IMPLICATION: Suicide is relationship with more childhood traumas, less social support. Repeating suicide attempts, individuals felt public stigma for receiving psychological help.

RESUMO

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of breathing exercises given by telemedicine in post-Covid-19 dyspneic individuals. Individuals in the intervention group (n: 26) were asked to perform breathing exercise three times a day for 5 weeks (one session performed via telemedicine each week). Individuals in the control group (n: 26) were given a brochure explaining the exercises. The St George's Respiratory Questionnaire, Pulmonary function tests, and six-minute-walk-tests were administered to all individuals at the beginning and end of the study. The posttest FEV1, FVC, MVV values were significantly higher than the pretest values in the intervention group (p2 < .001) whereas no significant differences were found in the control group. Six-minute-walk-distance increased by 54.27 m in the intervention group and 4.69 m in the control group. With breathing exercise training applied through telemedicine, improvements were observed in the pulmonary functions, quality of life, and exercise capacities of dyspneic post-Covid-19 individuals.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Elderly people are considered to be in the risk group for vitamin D deficiency. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of nursing interventions and sunlight exposure to reach optimum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels by individuals living in nursing homes. METHODOLOGY: Randomized controlled experimental study was carried out in June-August 2018 period in the nursing home. The question form, standardized mini mental test, Fitzpatrick skin typing questionnaire and Katz Index of activities of daily living were applied. Individuals in the intervention group (n=20) was exposed to sunlight five days a week for four weeks in July with an average duration of 21 ± 5 minutes (min 15 - max 30 minutes). For the participants in the control group (n=20), sunbathing was not offered. 25(OH)D, calcium, parathormone, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase and albumin levels of all individuals were measured at the beginning and end of the study. RESULTS: At the end of the study, the 25(OH)D was significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group (8.06 ng/ml and 0.96 ng/ml, respectively; p = 0.008). It was observed that in the intervention group, sunlight exposure increased the 25(OH)D regardless of gender and age. Increases were observed in intervention groups for calcium and albumin levels. At the beginning of the study, 25(OH)D was sufficient only in five elderly people in the intervention group, while at the end, 11 elderly people had sufficient levels of 25(OH)D. CONCLUSION: At the end of the study, it was concluded that sunlight exposure was a sufficient source to increase 25(OH)D in most elderly people living in the nursing home. Organizing sunbathing sessions as an independent nursing intervention is recommended for the elderly people living in nursing homes in order to prevent vitamin D deficiency and related consequences.

RESUMO

AIM: To determine the frequency of ferritin deficiency in individuals with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and to evaluate the association of ferritin level with depression, anxiety, sleep quality, and physical functioning. METHODS: This cross-sectional study, conducted from 2016 to 2017, compared the frequency of ferritin deficiency between 100 non-anemic fibromyalgia patients and 100 non-anemic individuals without FMS. Serum ferritin level of <30 ng/mL indicated iron deficiency. FMS patients filled out demographic questionnaire, Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, and Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index. RESULTS: Median serum ferritin level was 20.95 ng/mL. A total of 64% of patients and 42% of controls had iron deficiency. Beck Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores were not associated with ferritin levels. FMS patients with poor sleep quality had significantly higher Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Anxiety Inventory, and Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire scores (P<0.05). In individuals with poor sleep quality, lower ferritin levels also correlated with higher Beck Depression Inventory scores (r=-0.277, P<0.05). Sleep quality was not significantly associated with age, body mass index, duration of diagnosis, and serum ferritin levels. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with fibromyalgia syndrome have a rather high prevalence of non-anemic iron deficiency. No associations were found between serum ferritin level and anxiety, depression, sleep quality, and physical functioning.
