Background In Nigeria, similar to most of sub-Saharan Africa, the fight against HIV/AIDS is hampered by various barriers. Particularly, key populations (KP) face unique challenges in accessing antiretroviral therapy (ART), attributed to health systems, patient-related, and community-related factors. This study aims to explore these barriers among KP in Nigeria, enhancing understanding to improve ART access and outcomes, thereby contributing to global efforts to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Objectives The objective of this study is to explore barriers to accessing ART services among KP living with HIV in the southwest region of Nigeria. Materials and methods This descriptive cross-sectional study, which was carried out in the southwestern Nigerian states of Ondo and Ogun, involved 4,253 KP attending ART clinics. Using a multistage sampling technique, 219 females and 154 males between the ages of 17 and 72 were chosen. Semi-structured survey questions were used to get information to elicit these barriers. SPSS Statistics (version 29.0; IBM Corp., Armonk, NY) was used for quantitative data analysis. Results Specifically, 48.3% of respondents were men, and 58.7% were women; 54.0% were female sexual workers, and the next highest percentages were men who have sex with men (27.0%) and injectable drug users (19.3%); and 79% (51.0% agreed, 28.0% strongly agreed) concurred that the barriers to accessing ART are transportation, distance, and financial challenges. Patients at ART clinics were generally satisfied with the healthcare and health workers' attitude. Measures to protect privacy and confidentiality were considered crucial by the respondents. There are significant associations between ART accessibility and socio-demographic and socio-economic characteristics (p-value <0.05). Conclusion This study probed the complex landscape of barriers to ART access faced by KP in Nigeria, underscoring the critical need for tailored, innovative strategies to overcome these obstacles and offering actionable insights for stakeholders to enhance ART adherence and access thereby significantly improving the quality of life for people living with HIV.

Objective: This work examined the results of different dietary protein levels on indigenous Nigerian guinea fowl growth performance and carcass yield. Materials and Methods: One hundred and eight unsexed indigenous keets were randomly assigned to three treatments with experimental diets containing 22%, 24%, and 26% crude protein (CP) in a completely randomized design, with 3 replicates with 12 keets in each replicate. The parameters were measured, including proximate composition, feed intake, growth rate, feed conversion ratio (FCR), and carcass yield. Results: The birds fed diets containing 24% CP gained the most body weight at 619.83 gm and had the highest FCR of 3.45. The presence of CP had an impact that was significant (p < 0.05) on most carcass traits and prime cuts but not on gastrointestinal tract weight, head weight, dress percentage, or organ yield. Conclusion: The study concluded that the dietary CP level of 24% was optimal for body weight gain and carcass yield.

Screen house experiment was conducted in 2020 at the Landmark University Teaching and Research Farm Omu-aran, Kwara State. The experiment was carried out to evaluate the potential of dried unripe plantain peel and Tithonia diversifolia as soil amendments and its effect on growth, yield and fruit quality of tomato. Four rates each of dried plantain peel (0, 5, 10 and 15 t/ha) and Tithonia diversifolia (0, 10, 20 and 30 t/ha) were applied sole and combined. The experimental layout was a completely randomized design (CRD) with three replicates. Parameters were collected on the plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, stem girth, yield and fruit quality. Data collected were subjected to Analysis of variance (ANOVA) using the GENSTAT Discovery Software, Edition 4. Comparison of the treatment means were carried out using Duncan Multiple range test (DMRT) at 0.05 level of probability. Results showed that dried plantain peel and Tithonia diversifolia improved, number and weight of fruits as well as the fruit quality of tomato and were comparable to the application of NPK fertilizer. Treatment P5T30 (T8) increased number of leaves and number of branches while P15T20 (T15) and P10T30 (T12) increased plant height and stem girth respectively. Treatment P5T30 (T8) and P10T20 (T11) also significantly improved the fruit quality (minerals, lycopene and Vit. A) of tomato fruits. It can therefore be concluded that application of dried plantain peel and Tithonia diversifolia at P5T30 (T8) and P10T20 (T11) increased the vegetative, yield and quality parameters of tomato in the screen house of the study area.
