RESUMO

The aim of the work was to evaluate the incidence of arterial hypertension in the inhabitants of Tychy, a city polluted by ecotoxins, in relation to the energy expenditure of professional work, in consideration of overweight, cholesterolaemia, uricemia, alcohol consumption, age and sex. Investigations were carried out on 1964 individuals (1392 men, 572 women) divided in 5 groups with different intensity of professional work. Serum uric acid and cholesterol levels were determined in all examined persons. Incidence of the obesity was also considered. The authors conclude that the risk of arterial hypertension in the examined individuals of Tychy is average 17.4% for both men and women, and it decreases with enhanced energy expenditure at professional work for men. Arterial hypertension appears in subjects from obesity, hyperuricaemia and drinking more than 4.0 dl of pure ethanol per week.

RESUMO

Investigations were undertaken to estimate various energy expenditure during professional work on incidence of hypertension, overweight, obesity, hyperuricaemia and hypercholesterolemia in workers of two enterprises in Upper Silesia. The study was carried out in 1957 individuals (1392 male, 565 female) divided into 5 groups according to the hardness of their work. Serum level of uric acid and cholesterol was determined in all investigated subjects. Incidence of hypertension, overweight and obesity was estimated. It has been stated that incidence of hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia, overweight and obesity in men and hyperuricaemia in both sexes decreased with hardness of the work. The incidence of hypertension, overweight and obesity was not related to hardness of the work in women. The authors conclude that physical activity associated with professional work can be much more in men than in women listed as a preventive measure against arteriosclerosis.

RESUMO

The investigations comprised part of the workers employed in a factory of prefabricated concrete elements. The creatine kinase (CK) activity was determined before and after a day's work in the following groups of workers: I-exposed to noise and vibration exceeding the allowed norm, II- exposed to noise, performing the same hard physical work as group I and exposed to vibration not exceeding 79dB in particular octave bands, III- practising physical work a group I and II but in environment free from noise and vibration, and a control group of persons (C) not exposed to any of the tested factors (vibration, noise, work). The obtained results indicate that the determination of the CK activity may serve as a test of exposure to vibration and noise.

RESUMO

159 workers of the Building Units Factory have been subject to dermatological examinations. The oil acne was the most common occupational dermatosis found. About 76% (61%--92%) of workers developed this type of dermatosis. The prevalence of acne was found to be associated with the workplace exposing the workers to antiadhesic oil--separbet. This high rate of dermatoses resulted from considerable acnogenic properties of oil, lack of prophylaxis and unsatisfactory sanitary conditions in the factory. for 3 workers afflicted with contact eczema tests with the standard set and separbet were prepared. In two cases (1.2%) positive reactions to potassium bichromate proved occupational origin of eczema. 26 persons (16.3%) developed interdigital mycosis of feet, 8 (5%)--onychomycosis. Other dermatoses occurred in single cases.
