RESUMO
Currently, petroleum-derived plastics are widely used despite the disadvantage of their long degradation time. Natural polymers, however, can be used as alternatives to overcome this obstacle, particularly cornstarch. The tensile properties of cornstarch films can be improved by adding plant-derived nanofibers. Sisal (Agave sisalana), a very common low-cost species in Brazil, can be used to obtain plant nanofibers. The goal of this study was to obtain sisal nanofibers using low concentrations of sulfuric acid to produce thermoplastic starch nanocomposite films. The films were produced by a casting technique using commercial corn starch, glycerol, and sisal nanofibers, accomplished by acid hydrolysis. The effects of glycerol and sisal nanofiber content on the tensile mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were investigated. Transmission electron microscopy findings demonstrated that the lowest concentration of sulfuric acid produced fibers with nanometric dimensions related to the concentrations used. X-ray diffraction revealed that the untreated fibers and fibers subjected to acid hydrolysis exhibited a crystallinity index of 61.06 and 84.44%, respectively. When the glycerol and nanofiber contents were 28 and 1%, respectively, the tensile stress and elongation were 8.02 MPa and 3.4%. In general, nanocomposites reinforced with sisal nanofibers showed lower tensile stress and higher elongation than matrices without nanofibers did. These results were attributed to the inefficient dispersion of the nanofibers in the polymer matrix. Our findings demonstrate the potential of corn starch nanocomposite films in the packaging industry.
RESUMO
BACKGROUND: Dengue, Zika, and chikungunya, whose viruses are transmitted mainly by Aedes aegypti, significantly impact human health worldwide. Despite the recent development of promising vaccines against the dengue virus, controlling these arbovirus diseases still depends on mosquito surveillance and control. Nonetheless, several studies have shown that these measures are not sufficiently effective or ineffective. Identifying higher-risk areas in a municipality and directing control efforts towards them could improve it. One tool for this is the premise condition index (PCI); however, its measure requires visiting all buildings. We propose a novel approach capable of predicting the PCI based on facade street-level images, which we call PCINet. METHODOLOGY: Our study was conducted in Campinas, a one million-inhabitant city in São Paulo, Brazil. We surveyed 200 blocks, visited their buildings, and measured the three traditional PCI components (building and backyard conditions and shading), the facade conditions (taking pictures of them), and other characteristics. We trained a deep neural network with the pictures taken, creating a computational model that can predict buildings' conditions based on the view of their facades. We evaluated PCINet in a scenario emulating a real large-scale situation, where the model could be deployed to automatically monitor four regions of Campinas to identify risk areas. PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: PCINet produced reasonable results in differentiating the facade condition into three levels, and it is a scalable strategy to triage large areas. The entire process can be automated through data collection from facade data sources and inferences through PCINet. The facade conditions correlated highly with the building and backyard conditions and reasonably well with shading and backyard conditions. The use of street-level images and PCINet could help to optimize Ae. aegypti surveillance and control, reducing the number of in-person visits necessary to identify buildings, blocks, and neighborhoods at higher risk from mosquito and arbovirus diseases.

The livestock agriculture fromItapetinga are in area ofArgissolos. Themanagement of livestock has caused compaction. Thus, the purpose of the study was: i) describe the morphological, Chemical, and physical of the Argissolo Vermelho-Amarelo; ii) classify your agricultural aptitude and use capacity. The morphological characterization was described: depth, color, structure, texture, consistency, and transition. The physical analysis was: texture and clay dispersed in water. The Chemical analysis determined the cations (Ca2+, Mg2+ Na+, K+, Al3+ e H+), pH, carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus. The oxides Al2O3and Fe2O3were determined. The "Sistema de Avaliação de Aptidão Agrícola das Terras" and "Sistema de Capacidade de Uso" were used for classification. The soil was classified with Argissolo Vermelho-Amarelo Eutrófico abrúptico. Your aptitude has been graded as 1abC and IV E-3 to use capacity. Therefore, the use of soil is incorrect, because the perennial pasture with practices against erosion is the correct form of use. The abrupt characterwith compaction by the animals result in losses of the productive capacity of the soil. This is reality of the microregion of Itapetingabecausemost ofthe territory is in area of Argissolos Vermelho-Amarelos Eutróficos, totaling 41% of the total area.(AU)

BACKGROUND: Young people tend to spend most of their time in activities involving inappropriate positions, which can promote musculoskeletal alterations and disorders. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the prevalence of low back pain (LBP) in young people and analyse its associations with daily postural habits. METHODS: Cross-sectional and retrospective study evaluating 679 Brazilian young people (15 to 18 years old), using questionnaires about LBP and awareness of postural habits. The prevalence values were calculated for the present moment, the last three months and throughout life. The Mann-Whitney U test and the Chi-square test were applied. RESULTS: The prevalence of LBP at the present moment was 27.2%, 57.7% over the last three months and 73.9% throughout life. Boys and girls presented significantly different values, a larger number of girls manifesting pain for the three moments. The associated postural habits were: turning the body, reduction of lumbar lordosis when seated, not placing the feet on the floor, crossing the legs when sitting in the classroom and at home, sitting or lying in an inappropriate position, and distributing the body asymmetrically on the legs when standing. CONCLUSIONS: Young people from 15 to 18 years of age show a high prevalence of low back pain. Inadequate postural habits adopted during everyday activities are associated with this complaint. These findings could contribute to the implementation of prevention and rehabilitation strategies.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the effects of three 8-week exercise programs on the frequency, intensity, and impact of headaches in patients with headache attributed to temporomandibular disorder (TMD). METHODOLOGY: Thirty-six patients diagnosed with headache attributed to TMD participated in the study and were divided into three groups of 12 patients: a therapeutic exercise program (G1, mean age: 26.3±5.6 years), a therapeutic and aerobic exercise program (G2, mean age: 26.0±4.6 years), and an aerobic exercise program (G3, 25.8±2.94 years). Headache frequency and intensity were evaluated using a headache diary, and the adverse headache impact was evaluated using the Headache Impact Test (HIT-6). The intensity was reported using the numerical pain rating scale. These parameters were evaluated twice at baseline (A01/A02), at the end of the 8-week intervention period (A1), and 8-12 weeks after the end of the intervention (A2). RESULTS: At A1, none of the G2 patients reported having headaches, in G1, only two patients reported headaches, and in G3, ten patients reported headache. The headache intensity scores (0.3 [95% CI: -0.401, 1.068]), (0.0 [95% CI: -0.734, 0.734]) and HIT-6 (50.7 [95% CI: 38.008, 63.459]), (49.5 [95% CI: 36.808, 62.259]), significantly decreased in G1 and G2 at A1. At A2 headache intensity scores (0.5 [95% CI: -0.256, 1.256]), (0.0 [95% CI: -0.756, 0.756]) and HIT-6 (55.1 [95% CI: 42.998, 67.268]), (51.7 [95% CI: 39.532, 63.802]) in G1 and G2 haven't change significantly. The effects obtained immediately after the completion of the intervention programs were maintained until the final follow-up in all groups. CONCLUSION: The programs conducted by G1 (therapeutic exercises) and G2 (therapeutic and aerobic exercise) had significant results at A1 and A2.

Rationale and Objectives: To evaluate difficult airway in patients submitted to ventilation and orotracheal intubation under general anesthesia for elective operations. Method: Observational study with cross-sectional design. A total of 163 patients, 18 to 80 years old undergoing ventilation under face mask and tracheal intubation in operations using general anesthesia were studied. The data were collected in the pre-anesthetic consultation through a questionnaire that contained the anthropometric and clinical parameters for difficult intubation. Results and Conclusions: 163 patients were investigated. There was a difficult airway presence in 19% of the patients, and the vast majority had no complications. Also, there was a higher frequency of difficult airway in patients with higher BMI and greater cervical circumference, both of which were statistically significant. It was also observed that the higher the Mallampati class the higher the prevalence of finding a class higher than three in the classification of Cormack and Lehane, as well as the greater the chance of having a difficult airway, being significant. Finally, the prevalence of difficult airways found is low, and when present geographically it is related to factors that can be prevented. Classifications when used together have a greater chance of predicting difficult airway.

Sequences of the mitochondrial gene COI (DNA Barcode) were used to identify species of rays and skates commercialized in fishmongers in Brazil. The comparisons of the obtained sequences with previously published data available in NCBI and BOLD showed that the fish products corresponded to four species, Hypanus dipterurus, Potamotrygon motoro, Paratrygon ajereba and Gymnura altavela, the last of which is classified as vulnerable according to the IUCN Red List and therefore should not be marketed in accordance with the MMA ordinance 445/2015.
RESUMO
BACKGROUND: Low back pain (LBP) has become increasingly common, but the prevalence of this complaint and associated factors in young people remains controversial. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify the prevalence of LBP and to explore the existence of associated factors (sex, physical activity, sedentary lifestyle, sleep, body mass index and waist circumference). METHODS: This study considered all complaints of the lumbar region (acute or chronic) as LBP, which can irradiate to the backside and legs, lasting a minimum of 24 hours. Youngsters aged 15 to 18 years from a school in the south of Brazil were evaluated. Descriptive statistics was used, in particular Chi-square, Mann-Whitney U tests and binary logistic regression. A significance level of p< 0.05 was adopted. RESULTS: A total of 330 youngsters answered a questionnaire and had their anthropometric measurements measured (response rate 84%). The prevalence of LBP in the present was 30%, quarterly 63% and throughout life 77%. There was a significant association between LBP and sex: girls have an increased risk of LBP in the last three-month period (PR = 1.3, 95% CI 1.06-1.56) and throughout life (PR = 1.2, 95% CI 1.04-1.43). The practice of physical activities was also associated with LBP, but as a protection factor in the present and in the last three-month period (PR = 0.7, 95% CI 0.47-0.90). Physical education at school has demonstrated a protective factor regarding LBP throughout life (PR = 0.9, 95% CI 0.77-0.97). Most of the students did not comply with recommendations related to sleep and time spent doing activities in front of a screen, and no association of these factors with LBP was detected. This exposure (physical activity, sleep time, sedentarism) did not present significant association with LBP when adjusted by the confusion factors (sex, age, BMI). CONCLUSIONS: Youngsters reported a high prevalence of LBP. Girls were at greater risk of LBP than boys. It is recommended that prevention strategies focus on the practices of physical activities and scholar physical education. No association of LBP with sedentary lifestyle (TV and computer use time, sleep time), anthropometric measures and sleeping duration was observed.

BACKGROUND: Several posture evaluation devices have been used to detect deviations of the vertebral column. However it has been observed that the instruments present measurement errors related to the equipment, environment or measurement protocol. This study aimed to build, validate, analyze the reliability and describe a measurement protocol for the use of the Posture Evaluation Rotating Platform System (SPGAP, Brazilian abbreviation). METHODS: The posture evaluation system comprises a Posture Evaluation Rotating Platform, video camera, calibration support and measurement software. Two pilot studies were carried out with 102 elderly individuals (average age 69 years old, SD = ±7.3) to establish a protocol for SPGAP, controlling the measurement errors related to the environment, equipment and the person under evaluation. Content validation was completed with input from judges with expertise in posture measurement. The variation coefficient method was used to validate the measurement by the instrument of an object with known dimensions. Finally, reliability was established using repeated measurements of the known object. RESULTS: Expert content judges gave the system excellent ratings for content validity (mean 9.4 out of 10; SD 1.13). The measurement of an object with known dimensions indicated excellent validity (all measurement errors <1 %) and test-retest reliability. A total of 26 images were needed to stabilize the system. Participants in the pilot studies indicated that they felt comfortable throughout the assessment. The use of only one image can offer measurements that underestimate or overestimate the reality. To verify the images of objects with known dimensions the values for the width and height were, respectively, CV 0.88 (width) and 2.33 (height), SD 0.22 (width) and 0.35 (height), minimum and maximum values 24.83-25.2 (width) and 14.56 - 15.75 (height). In the analysis of different images (similar) of an individual, greater discrepancies were observed in the values found. The cervical index, for example, presented minimum and maximum values of 15.38 and 37.5, a coefficient of variation of 0.29 and a standard deviation of 6.78. CONCLUSIONS: The SPGAP was shown to be a valid and reliable instrument for the quantitative analysis of body posture with applicability and clinical use, since it managed to reduce several measurement errors, amongst which parallax distortion.

Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between training load and athletes mood states during a macrocycle. Twenty sprinters swimmers of high performance, of both sexes, were evaluated through the Rating of Perceived Exertion (PSE) and the Brums Profile (BR). The training load was determined multiplying the weekly kilometers swam (volume) by the score of the PSE. The Pearson correlation was used to verify the relationship between the training loads and the emotional states. Results showed a positive correlation with fatigue and negative correlation with vigor (p < 0.01). Thus, it was concluded that the training load determined by the relationship between volume and PSE is related to emotional states, vigor and fatigue.
INTRODUCTION: overweight and obesity in adolescents are major public health problems with particular interest, because of their potential association with risk factors for development of diseases. The study aimed to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity in adolescents in southern Portugal and investigate the association with risk factors for development of cardiovascular, respiratory and musculoskeletal diseases. METHODS: the sample consisted of 966 adolescents aged 10 to 16 years. The calculation of body mass index (BMI), evaluation of blood glucose, total cholesterol and triglycerides, blood pressure, spirometry and application of low back pain (LBP) questionnaire were performed. RESULTS: 178 (18.4%) adolescents were overweight and 52 (5.4%) obese. None of the variables revealed a statistically significant association with overweight and obesity. The presence of high blood pressure was observed in 200 (20.7%) individuals and hypertension in 158 (16.4%) adolescents. Overweight and obese adolescents are 2.3 times more likely to develop signs of pre-hypertension and hypertension. 559 (57.9%) students had restrictive respiratory disorders and 23 (2.4%) had obstructive disorders. Those who were overweight and obese had 0.64 probability of having restrictive respiratory disorders. CONCLUSION: there was a high prevalence of overweight and obesity in Portuguese adolescents and these showed a statistically significant relationship with the development of pre-hypertension and hypertension, and restrictive respiratory disorders.

INTRODUCTION: Pavonia xanthogloea is traditionally used as an antimicrobial and anti-tumour medicine in Southern Brazilian region. However, investigations about this species are still incipient. HYPOTHESIS TESTED: The study postulated that P. xanthologea specie present some phenolic compound and present some biological properties as anti-oxidant and cytoprotective effect against oxidative stress. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The content of eight phenolic molecules in the crude ethanolic extract of the aerial part of P. xanthogloea and its five fractions (hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl-acetate, n-butanol, and water) was determined by heterotrophic plate count method. The anti-oxidant capacity of the extract and the fractions was determined by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl assay. The potential anti-oxidant and cytoprotective effect was also analyzed in human lymphocyte culture treated with extract/fractions at different concentrations with and without oxidative stress generated by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and sodium nitroprusside (SNP) exposition. RESULTS: Tiliroside was the molecule detected in all extract. Water and ethyl-acetate fractions showed the highest radical-scavenging activity. The crude extract, hexane, water, and n-butanol reversed the higher reactive oxygen specie levels generated by H2O2 and SNP to levels similar to those observed in the control group. In addition, crude extract, hexane, ethyl-acetate and n-butanol did not caused cytotoxicity, whereas water fraction was cytotoxic at higher concentration tested here (300 µg/mL). The cytotoxicity reversion caused by SNP exposition was concentration-dependent of the extract and fractions. However, dichloromethane fraction increased cell mortality in all concentrations investigated and was not able to decrease cell death in the lymphocytes exposed to SNP. CONCLUSION: The results suggest potential medicine use of this species.
