RESUMO
Osteoarthritis is believed to be accelerated by full thickness defects of articular cartilage. This article describes emerging therapies, including mosaicplasty autologous (i.e., the patient's own) graft and autologous chondrocyte implantation techniques. Patients with chondral defects caused by a variety of possible pathologies experience positive implications, including return to normal function and delaying the onset of osteoarthritis.

Although there are a number of education models used today that expose bachelor of nursing degree students to perioperative nursing, producing nursing graduates who have the education and experience needed to work in the demanding perioperative arena is a challenge for education facilities. The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, has developed a perioperative education model that interfaces with one of the university's clinical sites, University Hospital, Denver, to achieve a winning balance between perioperative education and employment. The model provides nursing students with a realistic perspective of the OR and gives the employer an opportunity to thoroughly evaluate potential employees--beyond a resume and references.

This article explores how nurses cope with sudden death in the OR. It reviews the literature on this topic and explores grief and bereavement models, as well as provides a discussion of clinical coping methods identified through nursing experience. An education model presents information about implementing nursing care for the patient and family members. Critical care nursing research has been used to develop the model with adaptation to the perioperative setting. The model discusses the value of support for perioperative nurses and peers experiencing sudden patient death.
