RESUMO

A survey of cases was made in the context of an outpatient family planning scheme. Intra-uterine devices were removed from 874 women who had expressed interest in another pregnancy. The group of probands, in that context, comprised 701 women. The majority of the above probands turned pregnant in the first month from IUD removal. Ectopic pregnancies were recorded from two women only. Hysterosalpingography had to be applied to 22 women for secondary sterility. Seven of these turned pregnant. Ovulation was induced in eight of them, with good success in six cases. Abortion occurred to eight women, and another 23 had to be hospitalised for imminent abortion. The birth total was 741. The authors feel that an IUD has no lasting effect on fertility and that the latter will be restored immediately after IUD removal.

PIP: 769 IUD users who had had their IUDs removed between 1970 and 1977 were surveyed to determine the effect of the IUD on subsequent fertility. Women 20-29 years of age were most likely to apply for removal of the IUD, and most had used the IUD for 12-24 months. Most of the women who applied for IUD removal had only 1 child. Most of the subsequent pregnancies occurred between 6 to 36 months after removal of the IUD. Of the 769 women, 754 became pregnant; there were 2 extrauterine pregnancies, 8 spontaneous abortions, and 4 premature births (of which 1 lived). Hysterosalpingography was performed in 22 cases; 7 of these women did not become pregnant, 5 responded to chomiphen treatment, and 3 to parlodel treatment.

RESUMO

Hysterosalpingographic and laparoscopic findings were recorded from 90 patients and compared. They were identical in 71 per cent of all cases, but in some of the cases additional findings proved recordable from laparoscopy. The point is made by the authors that laparoscopy should in any case be preceded by hysterosalpingography, since the latter is a comparatively uninvolved method which even may have therapeutic effects. Laparoscopy is indicated particularly in pathological cases or in cases of uncertain diagnosis or prior to surgery for salpingoplasty. This is the only diagnostic method by which accurate assessment is possible of the organs in the minor pelvis and of tubal function. Today, laparoscopy may be considered a safe no-risk procedure, if all necessary conditions are provided, but adequate equipment actually is available only in larger institutions at present.

RESUMO

PIP: In Hungary, abortion seemed to be the preferred method of family planning. A study was undertaken of 426 women aged between 20 and 30 who volunteered for IUD insertion after abortion. The Hungarian nylon IUD and the 3-dimensional Organom device were employed. For a 9 month period, 5 pergnancies were reported, in 4 of which the IUD was missing from the uterus. There were 9 expulsions, and 4 removals for bleeding and pain. 93.5% of women found the IUD satisfactory.^ieng
