RESUMO

Culture medium--dry rich broth for isolation of streptococci--is developed. It is characterized by good growth of microorganisms, accumulative effect and prominent inhibiting influence on growth of associated microorganisms. During growth of streptococci on the medium their main biological characteristic did not change. It has been shown that streptococcal broth provided isolation of streptococci in pure culture from clinical specimens.

RESUMO

A dry medium formulation which provides the growth and reproduction of Leishmania promastigotes was designed. The medium has been prepared by using nondietary protein raw material, it contains domestic-production ingredients of that in high supply. The nutrient basis of the medium is enzymatic peptone (a source of amine nitrogen). The growth factors of Leishmania (a yeast extract, vitamins, amino acids, a dry blood derivative), carbohydrates (an energy components of the medium), inorganic salts (a source of trace elements), which are selected in strictly defined quantitative ratios, meet the physiological requirements of Leishmania. The agent rules out the necessity of adding ex tempore blood, making the process for preparing the medium from the dry powder simple and easy-to-use.

RESUMO

A dry nutrient medium for assay of Pneumococcus antibiotic sensitivity was developed. The medium is based on a casein-yeast hydrolysate, a hydrolysis product of casein and nutrient yeasts, which are noneatable raw materials. The chemical ingredients selected to meet the Pneumococcus physiological requirements exclude addition of biological fluids such as blood and serum. Inclusion of 2,3,5-triphenyltetrasolium chloride into the medium provided detection of the Pneumococcus growth initial phases. 2,3,5-Triphenyltetrasolium chloride proved to be the most sensitive substance for revealing Pneumococcus reducing capacity. A procedure providing results of antibiotic sensitivity assay of pneumococci 3-3.5 hours after its initiation was developed. The new medium provided satisfactory growth of pneumococci and clear and light inhibition growth zones around antibiotic disks on light red medium. It was found that the medium modification without agar may be used for assay of Pneumococcus antibiotic sensitivity by the method of serial dilutions.

RESUMO

The possibility of using the typing of P. aeruginosa strains by their pyocins as one of the epidemiological markers in the study of P. aeruginosa hospital infections has been established. As this method of typing is characterized by certain variability, the authors propose that the method of the "cross analysis" of pyocins produced by P. aeruginosa strains be used simultaneously. This method is based on the following phenomenon: if the cultures to be compared are different, the pyocin produced by one strain suppresses the growth of the other one, and if the cultures are identical, no suppression of their growth by pyocins is observed.

RESUMO

The authors carried out serological typing of 98 Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains, isolated from patients of burn department of the Sklifosovsky First Aid Institute in January-July, 1974, and of 215 strains obtained from other sources; their sensitivity to 13 antibiotics was determined. Pseudomonas aeruginosa cultures isolated from the patients were typed with O-sera of 10 serological types. The presence of several hospital strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa was found by means of serological typing; along with these there were revealed cultures of this causative agent sporadically appearing in the department. Sensitivity to some antibiotics could serve as an additional criterion for differentiation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains of the same serological type.
