RESUMO

To reduce the ever-increasing energy consumption in datacenters, one of the effective approaches is to increase the ambient temperature, thus lowering the energy consumed in the cooling systems. However, this entails more stringent requirements for the reliability and durability of the optoelectronic components. Herein, we fabricate and demonstrate silicon-polymer hybrid modulators which support ultra-fast single-lane data rates up to 200 gigabits per second, and meanwhile feature excellent reliability with an exceptional signal fidelity retained at extremely-high ambient temperatures up to 110 °C and even after long-term exposure to high temperatures. This is achieved by taking advantage of the high electro-optic (EO) activities (in-device n3r33 = 1021 pm V-1), low dielectric constant, low propagation loss (α, 0.22 dB mm-1), and ultra-high glass transition temperature (Tg, 172 °C) of the developed side-chain EO polymers. The presented modulator simultaneously fulfils the requirements of bandwidth, EO efficiency, and thermal stability for EO modulators. It could provide ultra-fast and reliable interconnects for energy-hungry and harsh-environment applications such as datacentres, 5G/B5G, autonomous driving, and aviation systems, effectively addressing the energy consumption issue for the next-generation optical communication.

RESUMO

In this work, 1 GHz video data was collected by a CMOS camera and successfully transmitted by the electro-optic (EO) modulator driven by an external modulation module integrated onto the same chip. For this application, the EO modulator component included a polymer waveguide modulator, which performed a 20 GHz bandwidth, clear eye diagram opening with a Q factor of 10.3 at 32 Gbit/s and a drive voltage of 1.5 Vpp. By utilizing a thermally stable EO polymer, the wide-band polymer modular can yield a photonic integrated camera sensor system which is a reliable processing platform for real-time data processing.

RESUMO

Adhesion of a model rubbery material, cross-linked poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), onto a solid surface was studied by sum-frequency generation spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. To do so, here, we have focused on the adhesive deposit and insoluble layer. The former and latter were defined as the residual amount on the substrate after the peeling and residual layer after washing with a good solvent, respectively. The peel strength of a PDMS sheet adhered onto a glass plate increased with the contact time. Both adhesive deposit and insoluble layer also exhibited comparable contact time dependence. Once a hyperbranched polymer (HBP), which was segregated to the adhesive interface, was incorporated into PDMS, the peel strength and adhesive deposit decreased, although the thickness of the insoluble layer remained almost unchanged. These results suggest that the formation of loosely adsorbed chains on the solid surface, which possess not only trains but also many loop portions and tail parts, plays an important role in the macroscopic adhesion behavior of the PDMS sheet and the interfacial segregation of HBP can prevent it.

RESUMO

To clarify the pathogenic mechanism of disease and establish effective therapies, animal disease models that can be dynamically analyzed are urgently required. Knockout mouse models and conditional genetically engineered mouse models were developed to analyze genes and proteins involved in disease. However, these methods have drawbacks, including embryonic lethality, side effects and low efficiency. To address this issue, we created a novel transgenic mouse model in which the YB1 gene was fused with a destabilizing domain (DD), named the YB1-DD mouse. YB-1 is widely expressed throughout development and has been implicated as a cell survival factor. Newly synthesized DD proteins are degraded through the proteasome pathway, but their degradation can be blocked with trimethoprim (TMP). In this study, we established a novel conditional knockdown mouse model that enables targeting of protein degradation directly; this model resulted in dose-dependent regulation of the target protein YB-1 by the ligand TMP in YB1 heterozygous mice. Since this conditional knockdown mouse model appears to be functional, it has potential as a useful disease model based on direct protein degradation control.

RESUMO

An electro-optic (EO) polymer waveguide using an ultra-thin silicon hybrid has been designed and fabricated. The silicon core has the thickness of 50 nm and a width of 5 µm. The waveguide was completed after covering the cladding with the high temperature stable EO polymer. We have demonstrated a low half-wavelength voltage of 0.9 V at the wavelength of 1.55 µm by using a Mach-Zehnder interference modulator with TM mode operation. The measured modulation corresponded to an effective in-device EO coefficient of 165 pm/V. By utilizing the traveling-wave electrode on the modulator the high-frequency response was tested up to 40 GHz. The 3 dB modulation bandwidth was measured to be 23 GHz. In addition, the high frequency sideband spectral measurement revealed that a linear response of the modulation index against the RF power was confirmed up to 40 GHz signal.

RESUMO

An electro-optic (EO) modulator using a TiO2 slot hybrid waveguide has been designed and fabricated. Optical mode calculations revealed that the mode was primarily confined within the slots when using a double-slot configuration, thus achieving a high EO activity experimentally. The TiO2 slots also acted as an important barrier to induce an enhanced DC field during the poling of the EO polymer and the driving of the EO modulator. The hybrid phase modulator exhibited a driving voltage (Vπ) of 1.6 V at 1550 nm, which can be further reduced to 0.8 V in a 1 cm-long push-pull Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) structure. The modulator demonstrated a low propagation loss of 5 dB/cm and a relatively high end-fire coupling efficiency.

RESUMO

In this work, an electro-optic (EO) ring resonator modulator was designed and fabricated in a waveguide consisting of a titanium dioxide (TiO)2 core, silicon dioxide (SiO2) buffer layer, EO polymer claddings, and electrodes. By optimizing the thickness of the TiO2 and SiO2layers, the modulator could satisfy the single-mode requirement; furthermore 52.5% TM mode was confined in the active EO polymer layers. The designed modulator could also pole the EO polymer effectively regardless of its resistivity. Therefore, the EO modulator was observed to show a high resonance wavelength shift of 2.25 × 10(-2) nm/V. The intensity modulation at 1550 nm showed a Vp-p = 1.9 V for a 3dB distinction ratio.

RESUMO

A library of oxygenated natural steroids, including physalins, withanolides, and perulactones, coupled with the synthetic cage-shaped right-side structure of type B physalins, was constructed. SAR studies for inhibition of NF-κB activation showed the importance of both the B-ring and the oxygenated right-side partial structure. The 5ß,6ß-epoxy derivatives of both physalins and withanolides showed similar profiles of inhibition of NF-κB activation and appeared to act on NF-κB signaling via inhibition of phosphorylation and degradation of IκBα. In contrast, type B physalins with C5-C6 olefin functionality inhibited nuclear translocation and DNA binding of RelA/p50 protein dimer, which lie downstream of IκBα degradation, although withanolides having the same AB-ring functionality did not. These results indicated that the right-side partial structure of these steroids influences their mode of action.

RESUMO

Fifteen Isodon diterpenoids (1-15) were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against HeLa and HL-60 human cancer cell lines, and against murine vincristine (VCR)-resistant P388 cells. Kamebanin (14) showed efficient cytotoxic activity against HeLa and HL-60 cells. In addition, although dihydroenmein (2) and trichorabdal B (7) were inactive against several tested cell types, they were found to have cytotoxic-enhancing activity of VCR against VCR-resistant P388 cells.

RESUMO

The chemical constituents of the root extracts and the evolutionarily neutral DNA base sequences were studied for 28 samples of Ligularia duciformis, L. kongkalingensis, and L. nelumbifolia collected in Sichuan and Yunnan Provinces of China. The samples could be classified into four chemotypes (1-4). Sesquiterpenoids having eremophilane and oplopane skeletons were isolated from two (Chemotype 1) and three (Chemotype 2) samples, respectively. Two new oplopane derivatives were isolated and their structures were determined. In 18 samples, phenylpropenoids were the major components (Chemotype 3). In five samples, neither phenylpropenoids nor sesquiterpenoids were found (Chemotype 4). Despite this large chemical variety, no correlation was found between the chemotype and the morphological criteria of species identification. The analysis of the evolutionarily neutral DNA regions also indicated that the samples were not separated into distinct clades and that introgression was extensive.

RESUMO

Narrow disperse core-brush polymer nanoparticles (BP) were synthesized by grafting from photo-induced atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) from N,N-diethyldithiocarbamate (DC) groups of core-shell particle surface. We constructed colloidal crystals of these particles by depositing on glass substrate. By variation of the particle size, the brilliant color could be varied throughout the visible spectrum. We locked also permanently such colloidal crystals by cross-linking of poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) brush phases with glutaraldehyde. The peak wavelength (λ(max)) in the reflection spectra agreed well with the bandgap position for light incident on the (1 1 1) face of face-centered cubic (fcc) lattice according to Bragg's law.

RESUMO

The synthesis of polymer particles is reported, which are composed of (1) a spherical colloidal core particle, (2) encapsulation of such seed particles with the inimer 4-vinylbenzyl N,N-diethyldithiocarbamate (VBDC) providing the formation of a hyperbranched structure by a living radical mechanism, and followed by (3) a grafted polymer brush prepared by photo-induced atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The particle sizes (number-average particle diameter Dn=190-300 nm) were controlled by varying the temperature and size distributions were extremely narrow (Dw/Dn=ca. 1.0001). By variation of the particle size, the brilliant color could be varied throughout the visible spectrum. The morphology of the core-shell particles and the properties of corresponding film were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), dynamic light scattering (DLS), reflection spectrum measurements, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

RESUMO

An indole alkaloid (hypaphorine (1)) was isolated from Brazilian medicinal plant, Erythrina velutina (Leguminosae). This compound was investigated for sleep promoting effects in mice, and the results showed that it significantly increased non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep time during the first hour after its administration. The NREM sleep time was enhanced by 33% in the experimental mice when compared to that of the controls. This study therefore confirmed its sleep promoting property.
