RESUMO

Background and Purpose: Beliefs about sexual function play a very significant role in determining sexual dysfunctions. There are very few short and reliable scales that can be administered to both men and women to measure their beliefs about sexual function. In this study, the researchers aimed to define the cross-culturally adapted Turkish version of the Beliefs about Sexual Functioning Scale and to evaluate its psychometric properties. Methods: In this methodological study which included 192 people, data were collected through face-to-face interviews using the personal information form and the Beliefs about Sexual Functioning Scale. Results: The content validity index and Cronbach's alpha value of the scale were .96 and .726, respectively. Findings indicate that the four-factor structure of the scale, whose items were reduced from 15 to 11, showed a good fit. According to the results of exploratory factor analysis, the scale preserved its original structure, but one subdimension (anal sex beliefs) was excluded from the scale because it was not suitable for the Turkish culture. The remaining four subdimensions accounted for 61.71% of the total variance. Conclusions: The Beliefs about Sexual Functioning Scale can be used to determine the beliefs about sexual functions of people living in Turkey.

RESUMO

The body image-related problems can negatively affect women's lives in many ways. The study was aimed at investigating the effects of postpartum body image on sexual functions, and fatigue and depression levels of primiparous women who gave birth vaginally. This cross-sectional study was conducted with 133 women who presented to the obstetrics and gynecology clinics of a state hospital in Turkey between June 2021 and December 2021. At the end of the study, a moderate relationship was determined between the women's body image and their depression (r = 0.500; p < 0.001) and fatigue (r = 0.666; p < 0.001) levels, and a weak relationship between their body image and sexual functions (r = -0.372; p < 0.001). According to the backward regression model used in the study, the women's fatigue and education levels accounted for their body image by 45.7%.

Body image is a very serious problem in the postpartum period. One of the leading variables affecting body image in the postpartum period is postpartum fatigue.Postpartum body image is closely related to postpartum depression and sexual functions.

RESUMO

Many factors negatively affect the motherhood role. Fatigue, insomnia and depression, which are among these factors, have not been investigated together in any study. Therefore, we carried out this study to determine the effect of insomnia, fatigue and depressive symptoms on the motherhood role in primiparous mothers. In this descriptive and cross-sectional study, we included 153 women who met the inclusion criteria using the simple, random sampling method. To determine the independent variables affecting the motherhood role, we used the backward regression model. In this study, we determined that the women's spending more energy while they performed the activities of daily living in the postpartum period, their suffering from insomnia due to baby care and their depressive symptoms affected their motherhood role by 32.6 percent. We also determined that there was a moderately significant relationship between insomnia, fatigue and depressive symptoms in the postpartum period. In particular, because depressive symptoms are the variable most related with the motherhood role (r = -0.520; p < .001), women should be followed-up regularly in the postpartum period from this aspect. It is also important to deal with insomnia in the early postpartum period, because it is a common problem in most women after childbirth.

RESUMO

Although infertility is not a life-threatening condition, it decreases the quality of life of people. This single blind randomized controlled trial was conducted with 80 women who received infertility treatment in an IVF Center located in a city center in the west of Turkey between May 2020 and February 2021. It was determined that thanks to the holistic care given in line with Levine's Conservation Model (LCM), fatigue levels of the women in the experimental group decreased, their energy levels increased, their structural, personal and social integrity was conserved and thus their quality of life improved compared to the women in the control group (all p < 0.001).

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of nursing care based on the Levine's Conservation Model on depression caused by infertility, fatigue, perceived social support, and sleep quality levels. METHODS: This study includes randomized controlled trial that was conducted from July 2019 to April 2020, with 65 Turkish women with infertility (experimental group: 34, control group: 31). We collected data using the Visual Similarity Scale for Fatigue, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the Beck's Depression Inventory, and the Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale. The experimental group received nursing care based on the Levine's Conservation Model. Data were analyzed using t-tests and χ2 tests analyses. FINDINGS: As a result of the measurements made, it was found that the experimental group had a lower fatigue level than the control group, with a statistically significant difference between the groups (p < 0.001). It was also found that the experimental group had higher energy and perceived social support scores than the control group after the practice, with a statistically significant difference between the groups (p < 0.001). As a result of the measurements made after the practice, it was found that the experimental group had a lower depression level than the control group, with a statistically significant difference between the groups (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Nursing care based on the Levine's Conservation Model decreased fatigue and depression in women receiving infertility treatment and increased perceived social support and sleep. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE: This research provides important findings about nursing care based on Levine's Conservation Model for women receiving infertility treatment. It decreased depression and fatigue and increased perceived social support and sleep quality.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study was aimed at comparing the conscientious intelligence levels of nursing students and determining the factors affecting their conscientious intelligence. DESIGN AND METHODS: Two hundred and forty nursing students were involved in the study. FINDINGS: There were no statistically significant differences between the first and fourth-year students in terms of the mean scores they obtained from the compassion, responsibility toward the creator, conscious awareness, and social sensitivity sub-dimensions. Of the students, those who chose the profession willingly, those who were women and those who did not perceive nursing as a profession just to earn money obtained higher mean scores in the Conscientious Intelligence Scale. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: The results of the study revealed that Nurse Academics should make more attempts to improve students' conscientious intelligence.

RESUMO

Objectives: This study was planned to investigate the relationship between the genital self-image of primiparae and their sexual quality of life in the postpartum period in heterosexual couples. Method: In this cross-sectional and correlational study, the data were collected through face-to-face interviews in the eastern part of Turkey. Results: The results demonstrated that the relationship between the genital self-image and sexual quality of life of the participants who were sexually active after birth was moderate (r = 0.52, p <.001). Both the genital self-image and sexual quality of life of the participating women were affected by the romantic relationship between them and their partners after birth (p <.01). Conclusions: Healthcare professionals should encourage and support couples to look over their relationship and problems they experience in their romantic relationship after birth.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: It is very important to protect the physical, mental and social health of healthcare workers who are at risk, are faced with a difficult pandemic process, and have been infected with the disease. In previous studies, the thoughts of healthcare professionals who gave care to coronavirus patients were investigated. The present study is the first study in which experiences and thoughts of healthcare professionals who had coronavirus disease were investigated, and unlike other studies, data were collected through one-to-one, face-to-face interviews. This study was conducted to determine the feelings, thoughts and experiences of healthcare professionals who recovered after being diagnosed with COVID-19. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: This qualitative study was designed based on Husserlian's phenomenological approach. The participants were selected from healthcare professionals receiving COVID-19 treatment through the purposive sampling method. The interviews were held between September 2020 and February 2021. Colaizzi's qualitative analysis method was used. RESULTS: After the analysis of the interviews, three themes and seven sub-themes emerged. The theme "fear" has three sub-themes: "fear of the unknown", "fear of being infected again" and "fear of transmitting the disease". The theme "social isolation" has two sub-themes: "Unhappiness" and "stigma". Finally, the theme "lack of motivation" has two sub-themes: "excessive workload" and "Inadequate number of employees". CONCLUSIONS: In order to help healthcare workers manage these psychosocial problems they experience, managers should make appropriate planning and should give them psychosocial support. It is recommended that the criteria regarding healthcare professionals' starting work again after they survive the COVID-19 should be reviewed and revised. In particular, healthcare workers who survive illness but cannot fully recover should be evaluated physically and psychologically before going back to work.

RESUMO

This randomized controlled trial was conducted with 117 puerperae who were assigned into 2 groups: the intervention group and the control group. While the participants in the intervention group participated in a full program based on the module trainings, the participants in the control group received routine care. There was a significant difference between the women in the intervention and control groups in terms of the variables such as fatigue, sleep, and quality of life. The women in the intervention group experienced less fatigue, and their quality of sleep and quality of life improved considerably. Levine's conservation model enables the provision of the integrative care to women in their postpartum period.
