RESUMO

A modified cytochemical technique was employed to investigate the unspecific acid naphthylacetate esterase of lymphocytes in the peripheral blood of a total of 64 clinically normal cows, having negative serologic and hematologic reaction for leukosis and of 42 cows with severalfold, well-manifested positive serologic response for the presence of the bovine leukosis virus with no changes in the hematologic data. With the normal animals an average of 6.86 per cent of the peripheral lymphocytes were found to be active--in the form of large dark-brown to dark red-brown granules--and such cells were considered to be T mu mature lymphocytes, while in 53.3 per cent of the cells activity was manifested in the form of tiny powder-like granules, and these were believed to be the Ty lymphocytes. Generally, 63.2 per cent were T-lymphocytes; the remaining 36.9 per cent of the cells had no activity typical for acid esterase, and these were considered to be B-lymphocytes. The study of cows with manifested agar gel immunodiffusion reaction for the presence of the bovine leukosis virus, with no lymphocytosis, revealed that there was a reliable rise of the T mu-lymphocytes up to 23.1 per cent, on an average, of the Ty-lymphocytes up to 69.2 per cent, while the percent of the B-lymphocytes dropped to 7.77 per cent, on an average.

RESUMO

Investigations were carried out using RPHA on 5299 blood serums, originating from 235 hen flocks vaccinated in four ways: Flox and orally with the vaccine strain La Sotta, intramusculary with Komarov's vaccine strain and by aerosol using the strains La Sotta and Komarov. Two hundred and eleven blood serums originating from 12 flocks, in which fowl pest was detected, were also investigated. Postinfection titer dynamics was followed in three flocks containing 20000 birds. It was established that aerosol vaccination results in highest mean geometrical titers--log2 6.3 on the average; intramuscular vaccination--in log2 5.9, oral vaccination--in log2 5.3, and Flox vaccination--in log2 4.7 on the average. The maximal value of the vaccine titers did not surpass log210, while post infection titers were of higher order and reached up to log214, which is of diagnostic value. Postinfection titers of higher than log210 value were preserved up to 5 months from the beginning of the disease, a fact of retrospective diagnostic value.

RESUMO

Isolated were a total of 33 Streptococcus strains during two enzootics in adult and young chickens. Their cultural, morphologic, and biochemical aspects were studied in order to elucidate the biotype to which they belonged. Taking into consideration their capacity to ferment trehalose and the fact that they failed to ferment sorbite along with their beta-hemolytic activity, belonging to serologic group C, these Streptococcus cultures were determined as Streptococcus pyogenes hum. C.
